Sierra and I had driven down to Virginia for a wedding. Afterwards, we decided to take the long way back through the Blue Ridge Mountains. We stopped on the Shanendoah River to play this folk version of Hey Ya by Outkast.

Yes, this was recorded and filmed live on the Shenandoah River on our way back from Virginia some time ago. We've always wanted to see this area, so we took the route home that 6-7 hours longer. Worth every minute.
I like it guys! very soothing and so calm that as I was listening, tears suddenly fell down... so much love must’ve been poured out on that song! Well done guys! ❤️🇦🇺❤️
Those harmonies 👌
@@mickgrose6743 magnifique!
Just lovely.
I do! Love her!
puts into perspective how changing the mood of a certain song can really emphasize it's true meaning
the boys in Outkast were speaking from the heart when they wrote this, and it's cool to see a spotlight shone on the true nature of the song.... a song that millions of people have partied to, turned to a somber ballad on a dock by the lake... this kind of versatility is what makes a true artist, and its beautiful
long live Outkast
beautiful cover
you are right but you have to add that this interpretation of this track is not neww as it was done this way by Sam Llyod on season 8 of Scrubs. May he rest in peace :(
you like this cover?? check out the version by Scott Bradlee of Post Modern Jukebox
@@lpdemodimi That's true, but his was actually a cover of Obadiah Parker's 2006 interpretation of the song
I totally agree with you! I had the same feeling when I first heard the acoustic version of Take on me by A-ha :)
This is why we love covers =] The first song I heard from these two was Sierra's In The Air Tonight, Phil Collins cover and dannng that song transformed for me.. I'm pretty sure she switched part of the first verse from "I would not lend a hand" to "Wouldn't I lend a hand?" thats what I hear at least and with that and obviously the style and her vocal the whole story shifted in my mind. It was almost like she was having a conversation with God about losing someone and battling faith so its a pretty intense cover for me. I personally never quite got that from the original, though I do love the original just never spent time with it lyrically until Sierra made her version.
My baby don't mess around
Because she loves me so
And this I know fo sho (uh)
But does she really wanna
But can't stand to see me walk out the door? (Ah)
Don't try to fight the feeling
Because the thought alone is killin' me right now (uh)
Thank God for Mom and Dad
For sticking two together
'Cause we don't know how (c'mon)
Hey ya! Hey ya!
Hey ya! Hey ya!
Hey ya! Hey ya!
Hey ya! Hey ya!
You think you've got it
Oh, you think you've got it
But got it just don't get it 'til there's nothin' at all
We get together
Oh, we get together
But separate's always better when there's feelings involved
If what they say is
"Nothing is forever"
Then what makes, then what makes
Then what makes, then what makes (what makes, what makes)
Love the exception?
So why, oh, why, oh
Why, oh, why, oh, why, oh
Are we so in denial when we know we're not happy here?
(Y'all don't want to hear me, you just want to dance)
Hey ya! (Uh oh) Hey ya! (Uh oh)
This is all I’ve ever wanted in life and i didn’t know until now
EXACTLY
I second this
Same
i was just about to comment something similar!
Same! 😉
that tripod is so close to the edge I was freaking out the entire song.
Right!? xD I was on the edge of my seat the whole time.
but then you listened to this beautiful rendition, and your stress floated away....right?
@@13magic74 Haha absolutely! C: I've listened through about 5 times now. It really is a beautiful cover!
Same!
Simp
The reason I love this song so much is because the first half of it is a broken love song hidden by a poppy track and high tempo which leaves it so open to interpretation in many ways... if you listen to the original, Andre 3000 actually says (covered well by the backing track) "Y'all don't want to hear me, you just want to dance" - emphasising the point that the majority of people dont actually listen to the words, they just take it for what it is on the surface - a fun, poppy track
Man City the true blue champions in every sense.
Dang D:
It's called brainwashing but you probably already knew that lol
AWsome interpretation of this song! Nailed it!
Same for the song Pumped Up Kicks
Shout out to Obadiah Parker. Absolutely beautiful work here. The setting alone deserves a Like on its own. Thanks for doing this. Gorgeous stuff right here.
There's no doubt you guys have so much musical talent but I also love the fact that you guys perform your music out in the nature. I've always felt like there's music in every aspect of nature and only those willing to listen can actually hear it. And when you guys perform it's like a sweet little jam between you and nature!🌬️🌿
You r so right. 💎
Sooooo true! Mother Nature wraps them in her arms.
yeah! only they're not there actually xD
@@stephenrolfe awh what a beautiful thing to say. :)
@@artmastercz6435 what? Lol. Are you sure about that? If so. I'm tripped out.
Certainly one of the last songs I would expect to be covered in this fashion. Well done.
That harmony hit me straight in the feels
i want to fall in love with someone that makes me feel the way this video does
you just put my feelings into words
God can
It'll happen, I discovered this feeling 3 months ago 🙂
Well 🙋🏽♀️ Anna
If there's anyone like that, that person not gonna fall in love.
Most original rap group of all time. Took the whole thing to another level.
The best.
hey ya!
The noise of the water was great accompaniment…
This gives me new faith in the younger generation.
Two chords; excellent…😎
Perfect scenery
The sound of the banjo is beautiful
And today TH-cam gave me this………….and what a joy!……..
When you can transform a song like that, you're truly an artist!
100% damn agree
Check out the Obadiah Parker’s cover of this. He did a slowed down acoustic version years ago, was super popular.
Obadiah the OG
very much!
Writing your own music makes you an artist
I've been listening to this every morning
i was looking a reading paragraphs then found info about Shenandoah River and started to read , i impressed about river when ı was finished the text , and then i came to youtube to look this river then i found this beatiful song , now both i m listening and searching to Shenandoah river. :)))
Beautiful!
I never realized how meaningful the lyrics really are because of how up beat the original song is
It’s nearly impossible for me to worship a song and then adore a remake. You two hit it out of the pahk. 🥳🥳🥳
check out the blanks cover of hey ya, its the band of scrubs and this version right here is kinda more a cover of the blanks version. Love it since it first aired
This guy ... legend
Look at that gorgeous river. The old hills are wondrous.

Home sweet home kind of vibe❤
"Music is an explosive expression of humanity. It's something we are all touched by. No matter what culture we're from, everyone loves music" - Billy Joel
Hell Yeah!
TH-cam recommendation bring me here and stayed because of the beautiful cover ❤️
This is what id Imagine peace looks like
Didn't expect to be crying from a cover of an Outkast song but this is absolutely beautiful. Thank you
Also never thought banjo music could make me react like that. So, thank you again
I grew up in Virginia. This song brings me back to my youth and the scenery brings me home.
So this is the Shenandoah River........... always heard of it.... Never actually seen it...... lol
It is. However, this camera angle does NOT do this place justice. It's so beautiful and vast, and definitely worth the trip to go see. The drive through the mountains is also incredible.
@@ChaseEaglesonOfficial I will definitely take a trip # million thanks for this beautiful song
Lovely! What area of the river was this filmed? I live along the Shenandoah 😊
@@kristylg This is at the Shenandoah River National Park. Take the road all the way back to the hiking trails, this spot is a large set of wooden steps down to the river just off a short trail. :)
Her humming during the guitar solo was so good!
The spot is beautiful
Shenandoah River National Park - Rated #1 National Park in the USA. :) It is DEFINITELY worth the drive for the the road view alone.
wow. Just wow...
Those Crickets singing along be like... I like this song!! AND THE MICROPHONE... EEEEEKKK
You guys take me to the skies.
Please please please please keep doing EXACTLY what your doing!! We NEED the artistic purity created by brother/sister. You are a view into the true loving heart of America that is so needed during these times!! God bless and God speed!!
One of the best songs ever made.
The ambient nature sounds are great.
Hey ya!
For a guitar, banjo and a field recorder…. amazing. Great job.
From Outkast to Obadiah Parker to this sweet river version. Thank you so much.
❤️it! So mellow with a country vibe. The scenery is a vibe as well.
Thank you so much!
A smoooooth meltdown!!
Sierra: awww little fisheee
Also Sierra: I'm going to eat you
I have Morning routine, smoke my joint and have my coffee.
Now for the last two weeks I've started my morning with, my joint, my cup of coffee and this song.
Thankyou, beautiful rendition.
The sound of the water is so relaxing along side the music
Your rendition of this song never fails to make me cry
I can't explain why, but the feelings I get from your covers hit me like if they were connecting with my life. It always feels good, right and true.
This is like the ASMR version of Hey Ya.
...and it's beautiful. ❤
Omg, the harmony, so clear and probably the best version of this song I’ve heard. Thank you.
I miss my old area loved this place ❤
this is just a classic ... makes me happy every time I listen ☺
Love you both, from the UK, thank you xxx
Until hearing this version I didn't realize the lyrics to this song were so sad, the original is such an upbeat and happy party song.
Amazing job though guys I absolutely love this cover!
The white noise off the water - is really the icing on the cake!
Ppl like this are the TRUE HEART of American music, not that processed poison pop on the radio.
One, two, three, uh

Hey ya! Hey ya!
Hey ya! Hey ya!
Hey ya! Hey ya!
Hey ya! Hey ya!
I know that spot. I know that river. The valley is home.
My home too. Nice to live near the Shenandoah!
Staunton here!
Where is it I live in the northern end of the valley
sorry to ask but I don't know.....this river I mean where it is situated? in which country?
@@redwanrefaat9174 it's the Shenandoah River that spans the Shenandoah Valley in America, West Virginia, which becomes the Potomac River once it passes the borders of Maryland.
This song knocks it out of the ballpark every single time I listen (at least once a day). Beautiful. Perfection.
Wow! How beautiful to hear that song performed slowly with a banjo and guitar. It has a whole new meaning now👏👏👏
Love the landscape
Life is old there, older than the trees
Wow!
And just like that, everything in the world seemed right again.
This sounds like the moment we come to a beautiful life changing realization 🙏🏾☀️ 🌸 🌲
Chase and sierra just making it fully clear to us how sad the lyrics actually are...
Sam Lloyd actually did that on Scrubs circa 2007
@@jonnyharding3646 Obadiah Parker did it too
I knowwwwwww
Sure did
im speechless
That spine-tingling sensation of being transported thousands of miles away from my home to sitting right on that dock with you, wow! Thank you. Effortless sounding but yet perfect
Hey Ya! Glad someone else speaks my language!😎💯
I'm in love with this cover it sounds greater than the original
The banjo gives me life.
...wow...that song, this way, by the river....I take my hat and make a bow!
The sound of water and wildlife is a nice touch with this beautiful masterpiece, very well done!
God bless .
This is my second favorite version. Behind Teds on Scrubs.
I've searched for a comment about Sam Lloyds version. It sounds a little bit like it. I'm still sad about his death in april this year.
Give Kamauu a listen too!
Obadiah Parker did it first! Look it up!
Obadiah Parker's version will always be the best. That is not a theory - it is a natural law of the universe. ;)
When people say less is more these people get it right here. To create something that is very simple but has a strong impact on their audience. This is one of the rare glimpses of traveling on a country road and finding people singing that will have an unforgettable experiences.
I woke up on the wrong side of the bed and it took only few mins to make me feel better after hearing this
Amaaaaazing
the harmonies in the chorus sent chills up my spine
i don’t normally comment on TH-cam videos but anytime i play this video for my son, he calms down immediately. such calming voices, i have to play it everyday. great song, amazing cover! love the way you guys did a twist on it. 🖤
Makes me cry 😢
The harmonies really add to that great Odebiah Parker arrangement.
Your channel is so wholesome in all its aspects: the choice of music, the arrangement, the execution, the audio mixing, the camera lenses, the natural setting, the sibling relationship... A spot of beauty in a dark world.
Just wow ❤❤❤❤!!
I missed hearing you two together. ❤
They harmonize so beautifully.
The river, the crickets and the overall sounds of nature makes this cover a serine listen.
This is a beautiful version, musically and in the setting!
What an awesome setting
great adaptation of the song. epic location. that ambient noise is solid gold. you captured something special here.
Beautiful Song...
Being this talented must be a whole other level of satisfying
You guys have perfected acoustic covers. I listen to this and feel so at peace after life hits you hard it’s music like this that makes you feel closer to heaven
I love how you guys interpret songs. Every cover has a certain familiarity to the original, but it’s so unique to your own style at the same time. SO GOOD
I watched this and smiled.
Just want to let you know I performed this version last night with my band and it was a hit. We had a mandolin instead of a banjo. Your version is absolutely beautiful!
This is the song id like to have at my funeral
