    I just got a vintage 1940s watch and it's running +240 spd if I remember right, with very low amplitude. There's not even a line on the timegrapher, just dots everywhere. I've ordered a demagnetizer, and I hope it helps some. I'm not holding my breath though.... I'm sure what it needs is a full service (strip, clean, lubricate). Funny thing is almost all my watches move the compass and also the cell phone app. It's like my whole collection box has gotten magnetized some. I've regulated all my watches though and they all run +/- a single digit for the most part. I wonder if my ones that were +50 or so spd before I regulated them, if what I did was compensate for magnetism. I wonder if they'll be real slow after I put them on the blue box. I guess it will be a good learning experience.

    • @TwentyTwoTen
      @TwentyTwoTen  7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Lawrence Khellendrose - certainly can. Just make sure the balance wheel has stopped oscillating. This seiko has the non-hacking 7S26 movement so pulling out the crown doesn't stop the seconds hand.

    • @TwentyTwoTen
      @TwentyTwoTen  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi - I've heard that it is fine, however if you want to stay on the safe side, i would let the mechanism completely unwind. Reason being that although the mechanism stops when you pull out the crown, there is still stored energy in the mainspring which can be disrupted by demagnetizing.

    i've got 2 watches that are magnetised and i've figured out specifically where it is magnetised on the watch. so when i rest it in certain positions, it will run faster. Example, i've got an Orient which is magnetised on the 12o clock area, when i rest it 12 facing up, it loses time but when i rest it dial up, it runs faster by 20+ seconds! Magnetism is such a demon!

    • @TwentyTwoTen

    Hello John,
    I have an Invicta Pro Diver (Model 9937OB) that has a Sellita SW200-1 movement and it gains a few seconds everyday. Is it posssible that it could be magnetized or does it need to be gaining more than just a few seconds a day? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    • @TwentyTwoTen
      @TwentyTwoTen  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Tactical Prepper75! Just a few seconds per day is normal. Do you know exactly how many seconds it is running fast?
      The SW200 (and its basis, the ETA 2824-2) are excellent movements! Remember COSC certification is still within +6 to -4 seconds/day.

    • @OIF_ArmyDV
      @OIF_ArmyDV 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Twenty-Two Ten Well I'm sure it's a non-COSC movement since it's an Invicta. I would say about +3 seconds a day.

    • @TwentyTwoTen
      @TwentyTwoTen  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If it is staying around +3s/day, I wouldn't change a thing. That's definitely within acceptable limits. If you really want to try and get it closer, you could always look at getting the movement professionally regulated - but I'd be very happy with the results you're getting now. Thanks Tactical Prepper75 - hope that helped somewhat!

    would a magnetized watch run slow?

    • @TwentyTwoTen
      @TwentyTwoTen  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      dacow95 - magnetism draws the hairspring coils closer together effectively reducing the oscillation length of the balance wheel which is why it typically runs faster. I haven't heard of it ever causing a watch to run slower - but let me know if you find otherwise! Have you tried putting a compass over it?

    • @ZviJ1
      @ZviJ1 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Most cases of magnetized watches indeed manifest in them gaining time, but some get expressed in a watch losing time.
      This is because magnetism doesn't necessarily draw the hairspring coils closer together. Something else can happen that causes the affected watch to lose time.

    Hello, I'm very confused. Not only my automatic watch, but any metal object I place next to a compass causes it to fluctuate. Similarly, my watch and any metal object I place near the Lepsi app shows 'magnetism detected'. How can I believe these tests are legit?

    • @TwentyTwoTen
      @TwentyTwoTen  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very strange James! Try putting the compass on a wooden surface, with nothing else around it and slowly move a steel screwdriver above it. If this still causes the compass to move erratically, then i'd suggest just giving a demagnetizer a go!

      For clarity on the above; your watch can get magnetized if you leave it on your speakers for a prolonged amount of time because of the large magnets inside speakers. You wont magnetize your watch "listening to ur Stereo System"!

    Hold on before putting your watch anywhere near your iPhone. Buy a 2$ compass and use that to check what’s magnetised or not, because guess what? The iPhone is a big magnet. That app says nothing at all. It indicated some of my watches that run fine are magnetised, including my Omega Master co-axial which is basically a-magnetic.
    Facing a cheap real compass: zero effect.
    So next you’d have people put their watches that are totally fine against that cheap demagnetiser that could actually magnetise the whole case itself.
    Have you taken advice from an actual watch repair guy before putting the video together?

    • @thisisbadstuff
      @thisisbadstuff 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your Omega has only an a-magnetic hairspring. There are still plenty of steel components in that watch that could pick up magnetism, which would be detected by the app.
