You must be referring to the building that was once the high school, then the middle school, now Montgomery County Public Schools Facilities and Planning building. The building has quite a history. Google the Black Sisters Christiansburg, if you aren't familiar with the story.
You did a really amazing job of avoiding all of the massive and sprawling trailer parks. That's not easy because there are so many. In the seventies all of that mall garbage was a massive apple orchard for Virginia Tech. They bulldozed all of the apple trees and sold the land to developers.
