    One of your best videos, Glenn. Those flowers are Jimson weed, a hallucinogenic. Also called Datura or moonflower. They are common in the Southwest and open at dusk.

      Sweet! That's what I thought it was. I looked it up & told Glenn I bet Gram might have been out there after all (haha) but unfortunately it was after I edited the video so I couldn't include the info. Thanks so much for the confirmation! 😄

    The sky at night is so pretty and amazing to see those stars. Never saw that many stars even in north dakota which is in the middle of no where. So beautiful. Joshua trees are very unique in shape and quite pretty. A great video and I will alway remember gram parsons. At least he died in a place he loved. More late night videos

      Joshua trees really are odd and beautiful, aren't they? And yeah... the stars were really incredible out there. We are actually thinking about more opportunities to film at night, especially the night skies. Just have to find the dark sky areas! 😄

    This is definitely a favorite of your videos for me! Such great storytelling, scenery, and the artistry of the night skies shots was fantastic! Such a peaceful video to watch. Loved the bats as well! Next time, please play your guitar for us!

    Went to Joshua Tree in June and the vibe there was amazing!! Happy, hippie energy that just made my soul smile 😊 The JT Inn was SO awesome; beautiful grounds and they truly keep the spirit of Gram alive! 💗GP

    So, I see my own comment below from a year ago, I think I ended up not finishing this video. Since then, I have actually visited Joshua Tree...and loved it. I'm actually right in the middle of making my video about it so it's cool to revisit it...and damn...I wish I had known about the dam! lol....Definitely would've made for some awesome photos. I also ended up getting there in the "magic hour" and got some great shots...came back the next day to see the whole park...I thought I'd never go back but man, I want to go to that dam now!

    According to Phil Kaufman's (Gram's road manager who attempted to cremate his body) book "Road Mangler Deluxe," the first place you went to next to the parking area was the actual site where he tried to cremate Gram's body. Phil Kaufman, in his book, shows a photo of where he and Martin (an associate) took the body to cremate it. Check out "Road Mangler Deluxe" most of the book is about Phil Kaufman, but there is a good portion of it that describes the cremation incident.

    • @CactusAtlas

      Unfortunately it takes a LOT more wood and extremely high temps to cremate a body. So unfortunately it probably never would have worked (at least unnoticed) but still kind of a poetic thought, right?

    The plant with white flowers just before 24:00 looks like Sacred Datura (Datura wrightii). Perhaps appropriately in thinking of GP, it was/is used (VERY carefully) by local indigenous folks as a hallucinogen. But to the rest of us, it’s basically a beautiful yet very poisonous plant. :-)

  • @Ramblerjlc

    I have a question. How far is the motel, where he died, to the cremation site?

  • @AGENTARMES
    @AGENTARMES 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    2 things: 1-that white blossom is called Datura or Jimsen Weed. It is psychoactive. 2- According to Phil Kaufman, Gram was cremated near cap rock, not at cap rock, a few ppl know the actual spot, including the rangers. Hit them up next time.

    • @CactusAtlas
      @CactusAtlas  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It's unfortunate that Joshua Tree has become a place where Gram Parsons is being exploited commercially, and the park is now notorious for what happened there. If his drunken friends had conducted a proper cremation with the right materials that did the job, and with some kind of religious or spiritual ceremony, it would have at least had some dignity and acceptability.. But instead they illegally stole his body and poured gasoline on it, which just left an awful mess that others had to clean up. The emotional trauma to Gram's wife, family and friends was extremely hurtful. Those guys should get no respect or admiration at all.

    • @sulevisydanmaa9981
      @sulevisydanmaa9981 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @joepalooka2145 I AGREE. THE WHOLE EPISODE IS BIZARRE - like some kinda 3rd rate Killuminati messed up ceremony straight out of Lynch/Kubrick worldview; or even lacking any such of whatsoever. Pretty much the vibes of JDM s "Dawn s Highway" w "fragile eggshell mind" (controlled collaborative conundrum ..). The commercialization is not of ill-intent as such inasmuch as the killennial-gen is truly ignorant what real musical creation can do to one s spiritual development. GP was a talented originator of country rock, one of the most easygoing personalities evvuhh. But probably had a shady childhood trauma, as had JDM. PTSD or mind control, hard to define - ezy to speculate . . . Life is a gilded palace of holy sin - ooh, LV ...thank u 4 the music 🇫🇮
