      @@zeesweetz5040 I hope all is well! I know it’s been 2mon so I am sure you’ve probably gotten an answer before I can respond. The great thing about this field is it is sort of entry level so yes most places do train you on the job. Even if you have experience, going to a new clinic, they will train you their company’s way.

      Hi my love!! How was your first month ?? How is everything going!? My biggest tip & most vital is “DO NOT STOP LEARNING” read up on stuff, watch videos, be unapologetic when asking questions, ask a bunch of questions, ask the Doctor for feedback, ask for ways to improve! Work on your time, one of the things I battle with is the amount of time I work up a patient! Be patient with yourself, your times will improve as you continue to grow & get more understanding. Don’t just go by the motion really get a full understanding as in to what you’re doing & why! I really hope this help! & most importantly stay prayed up & give God praise because you’re blessed & highly favored!

    I’m an ophthalmic tech as well. This is a great video. I am wondering why you are using a card for the patient to cover and check distance instead of an occluder?

    • @user-wc5ex7cu7p
      @user-wc5ex7cu7p ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you are correct. An occluder would have definitely been the most appropriate tool, however there were none available at that particular time. We had to make due with what we had at the moment. Definitely if you have an occluder available, use it. However if at any moment during an exam you don’t have it, you can have the patient use the palm of their hand, tissue or in this case a reading card would work as well, as long as if the eye is completely covered.

      Hi Keonni girl!
      I apologize for my delay in response ! Keonni, I honestly prayed. I know it sounds crazy but I legit prayed. After graduation I was completely lost. I was putting in applications every where and wasn’t getting a response, I started praying & decided to get up & do footwork. I dropped my resume off at a few medical practices near my home & the Ophthalmologist practice was the one to call back. I’m not yet certified I am actually currently in the process of working towards obtaining my certification. A lot of organizations actually train you on the job. I have a background in Allied Health & that’s what helped get my foot in the door. & I know the feeling about programs not being offered ! I am in Georgia and there’s no programs☹️ ! Sucks! But they do have other ways you can get certified which is awesome!

    Can you tell me the difference between an Ophthalmic Assistant and an Ophthalmic Techician

    • @poshmo-llennial8709
      @poshmo-llennial8709  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi My love! Firstly big congrats ! & good luck!
      Yes!
      Ok to answer your question:
      So imagine ranks....
      Ophthalmic Technician is one level above an Ophthalmic Assistant. Right after Ophthalmic Technician would be a Ophthalmic Medical Technician. Each time you go up a rank the more skill sets you will have as well as more responsibility & a negotiable pay.
      You can even take measures up a level by getting certified via JCAHPO.
      COA - COT - COMT
      Certified Ophthalmic: Assistant-Technician-Medical Tech
      Also depending on where you work,
      Some places use Ophthalmic Assistant & Ophthalmic Technician Interchangeably. Meaning yes you got hired as an Ophthalmic Assistant but your roles & responsibilities can very well match up and be that of an Ophthalmic Technician. They may even just overall consider you a Tech & that will be your role title, A Technician.
      I hope that thoroughly answered your question! Let me know!

      @poshmo-llennial8709  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Mayra Zuniga Hi Mayra!!
      Yes ma’am I def can! (This is just in general) So this is what’s working for me: Spaced Practice Method mixed with Pomodoro Method
      Day 1: Initial study session
      Next day: Revisit & Review
      After 3 days: Revisit & Review
      After 1 week: Revisit & Review
      After 2 weeks: Revisit & Review
      When you study
      Study 25 min break 5 min
      Study 25 min break 5 min
      Study 25 min break 5 min
      Study 25 min break 15 min
      Do that 2 times
      You just studied 4 hrs & it wasn’t overwhelming.
      I like the pomodoro method because it makes studying a little less overwhelming.
      I like the spaced method for the same reason plus with the spaced method it’s better for long term memory.
      Here are some links to explain the methods I just mentioned.
      Pomodoro:
      dariusforoux.com/takebreaks-pomodoro/
      Spaced Studying:
      www.oxfordlearning.com/what-is-spaced-practice/
      I really hope that can help you! Please let me know how it works for you ! & btw I wasn’t sure if you were referring to studying for the COA exam. If so I have not yet taken the exam, I am currently studying for it & aiming to take it within the next month, by then I will have all the necessary hours.

      Mayra Zuniga As for taking patient history, you want to familiarize yourself with the different systems of the body & what kind of diseases that are associated with them. For example with the Endocrine System, diseases associated with it is diabetes type 1 & 2, normally with diabetic patients they can develop diabetic retinopathy. It’s important to not only know the patients diagnoses but knowing when they were diagnosed with it & what medications they are taking is important too. Family history is important as well. Knowing if they drink, smoke or do any drugs is important as well. And also taking the patients history goes hand and hand with medical billing & coding, patient history is mainly why the patient is at the visit that given day, this is important because this will go with the billing. Let’s say for example.
      Chief complaint says:
      John Doe is a 40 year old black male known to be a NIDDM diabetic for 8 years who shows signs of Diabetic retinopathy and who is being followed for IOP and tolerates medication well.
      John is being followed for glaucoma as well as diabetic retinopathy.
      Let’s say he’s up to date on all of his testing, he had all of his testing the last visit which was July 2020 and now it’s August 2020, more than likely In July John visit was billed under comprehensive so this August visit will be billed as intermediate because he is just a return of visit.
      The diagnosis will be billed with the visit.
      I hope all of that wasnt confusing! Please let me know if it made sense if not we can work towards helping you figuring that out.

      Hey girl hey! It really depends on the area you are in as well as how long you’ve been working. Also, certification plays a role in determining your pay as well. Starting off as a Ophthalmic assistant with no certification and 0 years of experience in GA expect to make between $14 - $15 an hour. Here are some sites you can look at and keep as information resources for you.
      1. Neuvoo.com (this site can give you a clear idea of what’s being taken out of your taxes, a pretty in depth break down)
      2. JCAHPO.org will give you information on different certifications such as COA or COMT (certifies ophthalmic medical technologist)
      Ophthalmic Assistant & Ophthalmic Tech are two different job positions. Ophthalmic Techs are paid more & has more experience!
      I hope I answered your question ☺️ if you have anymore questions feel free to ask & I will try my best to get you an answer!
