Even as an old fogey, I still think it’s such a good word.
slang gets to us older folks a bit late
The skins should have been shown seperately because depending on the skin and the gun, when equipping a skin the gun can use the old csgo model i.e. the Negev. Jonathan actually saw a worse quality Negev and he even remarked on its "extra" bulky appearance.
He even said "skins dont change the model of the gun" lol. Don't get why they did show the mp5 skin seperately but then decided not to for the others.
@@TedNeeTed "... do they?"
@@trymj1018 skins from CS:GO that arent updated use the CS:GO model while new skins and very simple ones from CS:GO (the pattern based ones) use the new CS2 models
Just checked to confirm: yeah, that model is the old one. Hopefully Dave rectifies that in future.
Interesting, since it would seem CS2 simulates the belt it cuts through the old model's belt box.
some of the newer models are still missing animations as well. you can easily see this with the MAC-10, on the CS2 model, the bolt does not reciprocate while firing but if you use a skin that isn't updated and use the older CS:GO model the bolt actually moves.
For those who do not take the mac-10 firing when falling in stairs reference: this is a scene from the Schwarzenegger movie True Lies, where one droped in stairs take out multiple enemies.
Dropped by Jamie Lee Curtis IIRC. I was checking to see if someone else instantly got the reference :)
Same here
True Lies will never be a dated reference!
"multiple enemies" indeed. The bullets seemed to unerringly home in on every single person in the room, like a Zorg ZF-1.
That was also a dated movie reference.
of course it would be from a schwarzeneger film
Regarding the presence of the FAMAS, one of the three groups the original Counterstrike's CT player models were based on was indeed french and even now that there's way more diversity in models and outfits there's still a healthy french presence.
True. The GIGN used to be in the game.
still is if you dont have player model skin its a ct character with gign patch on his arm @@Fxrrxt2x
@@Fxrrxt2x If Valve actually ports the other CTs from CS:GO to CS2 we'll get GIGN back
The GIGN were a thing in the games even in cs1.6, so yes the FAMAS does make a lot of sense.
Yeah CT play is 100% in line with french people. Camping, deserting cowards
I always wondered if they picked the AWP over other options solely on how "boxy" the frame and bolt are. Like back in the old days where you had to make every polygon count this would have been a weapon that would be closer to its real design. Same thing for the FAMAS.
Perhaps. It's basically a big barrel on top of a piece of wood; they did a similar thing for metal gear solid and they chose the most blocky pistol ever.
Nah I think it's literally cuz the Cts are well idk cops lol
That's the reason Snake has a SOCOM pistol in Metal Gear
@@SanyaTheNightWitch69420 True but back when this game was first developed they basically had toasters for computers and had to make every polygon count. Complex shape = no-go.

I love Jonathan's holding his thoughts on the price of that AK. Probably something along "I could buy a real 1000 real AKs, latest models, for that price!"
Now I'm wondering how much it would cost to outfit a platoon. Discounting the cost of trained manpower, how much bang for your buck could you get for $400,000?
@@tbotalpha8133just googled it and it depends on where you are.
In Afghanistan at 600 bucks a pop you could buy about 666 (lol) while on the dark web they can go for 2800 and up.

@@tbotalpha8133 $400k should definitely be more than enough to give a platoon the absolute basics. Everyone gets a rifle, sidearm, and body armor. The scene from True Lies of the MAC-10 firing as it tumbles down the stairs, killing all the bad guys and leaving the heroes untouched has always stuck in my mind. Glad Jonathan remembers it too.
JLC's reaction along with Arnies was great and fit the vibe of the film.
That harrier scene will always be one of my favorite action movie moments. I watched it along with my dad when i was a kid and when we watched the remastered version it still miles better than some modern action films.
that slow motion tumble immediately popped into my head as soon as he started mentioning multiple safeties. Very disappointing that this comment is so far down the page, and with so few likes!

I find it interesting the "AK-47" iron sights are at a huge distance (>500m) playing on a map with a total distance corner to corner less than that.
I'm not sure if you were aware of this Dave, but since you've shown a skin of the negev to Jonathan instead of the base weapon, you've shown him the old, outdated model that's far less accurate than the modern cs2 model (most skins in cs2 retain the old csgo model). I hope Jonathan sees the new Negev model and gives his review about the newer model.
I was not! I didn't realise not all the skins had been updated, so I appreciate you flagging that!

@@BlacKnight132 not at all my friend. It's good for me to be aware of it 🙂
For the FAMAS and other weapons that aren't supposed to be available to all nations, it may be because back then Counter Strike had the possibility to choose where your character is from (SAS, GIGN etc.) So it made a little more sense.
The longer this series goes, the more I love the little back and forth with Dave and Jonathan
Very old and niche game but would love to see Jonathan have a gander at Fistfull of Frags. Tons of old west guns would be fun to listen to him talk about.
Jonathan's Weapon reviews never get old
And never will, I reckon.
I love the fact that it’s some British guy who’s an actual academic, and not just some American in his backyard showing us his guns.
I would love to see Jonathan reacting to Receiver 2. The game simulates every part of the weapon, from spring to bolt, you can operate every part from hammer to tapping the mag to make sure its seated correctly, to malfunctions and ways of clearing them. I'm even inclined to provide videos if necessary
The auto sear pin's 5:45 frequent absence in computer game models really cements its (contrived) allure!
I was sort of expecting him to comment on how the AW/P in earlier Counter-Strike games was stated to use .338 Lapua Magnum cartridges, but that option was only available on the AW/M Magnum version of the rifle.
In CS2 there are 2 types of models for each weapon. 1 new more detailed and more realistic model introduced for CS2 and the classic CSGO model for skins whose author haven't updated for CS2 yet. So at least for now skins do indeed change models. Looks like in the video the AK Case Hardened and Negev skins use the CSGO model, not quite sure about the P250.
P250 X-Ray does indeed use the old model still. The vast majority of skins do, more or less only single colored or pattern based skins by Valve have been ported.
Back in original CS (1.6), you could select which faction/unit you wanted at the start of the game. CT's had French GIGN, SAS, Navy Seals and the German GSG-9 as options that you could play as.
In todays game you have to buy those skins :(
A lot of the guns used in this video are using the old models, which for the sake of keeping the skin design the same as the game went from the old generation to its brand new iteration. It would have been really interesting to see Jonathan's reaction to the change the USP-S has gone through (bulkier appearance and sights changed to help see over the suppressor).
As well as how guns like the Deagle and AWP have gotten bulkier and more "true to life" as it were.
Great video nonetheless.
I feel like Cruelty Squad would be a fun game to analyze the weapons of, especially since the creator intentionally used the models of experimental/discontinued weapons for his weapons in the game. Might be neat to hear more about them from an expert (and of course, watch him get confused by the game's visuals).
I love you guys putting the names of the skins in the time stamps as well. Just that little bit of extra effort that I respect so much
I’m sure someone’s brought this up already, but you do actually play as GIGN (a French counterterrorism unit who frequently use the FAMAS) on quite a few of the maps in CS GO and 2.
It's strange to me that we got one different autosniper for each team but both of the bolt actions are shared. Imagine if T's "AWP" was a Mosin or Kar98 instead.

As always a really good breakdown of the guns by Jonathan that also comes with quite a bit of history :) I like this series and also all of what the Royal Armouries publishes, it would be a real treat to go visit one of their locations at some time in the future. Great work Mr. Ferguson ! :)
Mac firing while dropped down a stairs taking out a bunch of baddies was from the film True Lies
Ah Counter Strike. A Classic. Also the sheer horror on Jon's face at that MP5. Dead behind the eyes when he saw it. XD
i LOVE having the discussions shown in the video
Hahaha, I was thinking about the True Lies stairs scene while Jonathan was talking about the MAC-10 and then he brought it up.
If another episode on the CS2 weapons gets made, I wanna hear his thoughts on the SCAR-20 and UMP-45
UP UP
A detail you missed on the AWP is that the (aw)police version is typically chambered in 308. not 338. meaning that the scout should be on par in terms of damage since it’s also typically chambered in 308. while also supporting 338.
17:31 Skins DO change the model of the gun for this game, as they're legacy models from CS:GO. CS2 has brand new models that are a bit more accurate towards their real life counterpart. So there will be new skins potentially for the newer models as well.
I'm surprised Jonathan didn't mention anything about the AK's sights being zeroed for 1000 metres nor the safety being on.
Just saying the same thing I've said on previous videos in case it wasn't seen. But, I LOVE having Dave and Jonathan interact. It is always a joy. Thanks.
Love the little shoutout to "True Lies" with the Mac-10
Nice Video like always and nice "True Lies" reference.
16:48 I like how it looks like the belt is about to slide out of the gun and then you catch it with the top cover.
The reload animation for the FAMAS is the smoothest thing I've ever seen. It's basically floating in.
I'd like to see Jonathan give us his thoughts on slow mo ballistic gel tests.
A true lies reference?!
He truly is a man of culture.
Also, wasn't Bruce Willis' 92 in the first die hard flipped for left handed use?
Would be really cool to see Jonathan take a look at some of the guns in the STALKER G.A.M.M.A mod.
something missed on the FAMAS, the model is a bit of a hybrid. the front end is a G2 FAMAS with a full knuckle trigger guard but the mag well is from the G1 pattern for the proprietary G1 FAMAS mags, however despite the mag well not being set up for it they jammed an M4/M16 magazine in there. the G2 FAMAS extended the mag well and added a different latching system, and on the model you can even see the hole for the mag catch sticking outside of the mag well.
Also, there was an AWP in one of the cod's. It was called an L96 though and was a little off.
SSG 08/Scout is my favorite though, higher skill sealing and very affordable for ecos and small buys rounds if you are good.
that dated reference he talked about while talking about the mac 10 was referring to the sten gun
The True Lies reference made me happy. They even tested that on Mythbusters.
Fascinating how he can differentiate such small details
Just to note some skins do change the model of the gun (or at least seemingly do). It's rare but now that CS2 is out it's even more common because some skins will be using the legacy models from CS:GO.
the awp was always known as the arctic warfare magnum to me, since that's how it was named in the version of CS i first played
Went to Royal Armories today, it was so great seeing arms and armour that I've watched tons of videos on, on this channel and others! Honestly, it was fantastic. 10/10 will visit again
My buddy has a real transferable Mac10 and I have shot it suppressed and unsuppressed quite a bit and I agree, the suppressor helps a lot with recoil management with that rate of fire.
i really hope we get a part 2 of this, id love for Jonathan to see the glocks burst fire.
Skins actually do have different models than the stock variants, as CS2 has brand new models and most older skins use the older models.
G3SG1 built-in bipod in CS2 is missing (present in Jonathans hands). I had such airsoft replica a while back, very fragile original bipod mount :)
I welcome the (whomever the guy in the yellow jacket is) since he gives context to Jonathan and bounces off the conversation on the game!
Please do more so we're not left out of the context!
13:20 A very good reference to that movie, props to the guy :D
That True Lies reference made me feel so old.
Thanks Jonathan -.-
19:13 i think the choice for the twin beretta 92s here is its because of a Black Lagoon reference(Revy dual weilds 2 Beretta 92 Inox guns, with an extended barrel which is nicknamed "the silver cutlass")
I smiled when he mentioned the mac10 dropping down stairs and firing
Surprised Johnathan missed the hammers on the dual elites being offset too high. I can't stop seeing it now that I've noticed.
Note on the famas - the counter-terrorists are actually GIGN in the CS Cannon, so a french gun suits them perfectly!
The P250 is not "hammerless", it is a hammer fired Double Action Only handgun.
I noticed that too, I used to have one and sold it because I’m not a huge fan of DOA
@@tylermargason7885 Sig didn’t want to warranty mine, so I sold it.
@@jakedistlehorst6190 that was a concern of mine too as I bought it second hand. Mine was running good at the time. I never had an issue with it but it just wasn’t for me.
I wonder how would Jonathan reflect on learning that a Skin from a video game AK cost 4 times more than buying one in real life.
You think a real AK costs 100 grand?
I would love to see what he has to say about the galil's chatterbox skin, as it makes use of the unique dust cover to make the skull talk :)
11:23 The X-ray skin of the P250 is an exclusive of countries who voted stricter laws to loot-box bought with real money in effect, forcing Valve to use a workaround: rather than paying to open the
case (CS loot box) it shows the content with an X-ray effect and then you can pay for the skin. Effectively you know what you are paying for so it’s not lottery any more, but as long as you don’t buy the skin revealed you can’t scan more case so it is in effect the same thing.
The update that implemented the scanner put the X-ray skin for free inside as a bonus and I think the skin is literally cannot be traded which makes Jonathan’s comment quite fun as it is one of the only skin actually removed of the “economy”.
A bit disappointed there weren’t direct comparisons between the models of GO and CS2. Still a pleasure to listen to Johnathon talk in detail either way
I like the reference to True Lies. Thanks for throwing that in there
Nice they finally got Johnathon a decent camera for these videos!
Negev pronunciation was perfect, Ian!
Legend, Appreciate your time and insight as always Jonathan Godbless friend!
I definitely never thought about how you'd have to mirror various features of a pistol to make it workable one-left-handed.
I'm not 100% sure if this is the case, but in reference to why they keep "yeeting the guns off into the distance" - I think that's because drop weapon has always been bound to G by default in CS, at least as long as i can remember. And so at the end of a half/match (when you don't need to worry about saving your weapons for the next round) dropping the gun followed by the pistol as they did in that clip, means they've pressed GG.
I still think the "Specialists" mod for HL1 (CS 1.6) did guns and gunplay probably better than even modern games. It had a really large arsenal, and pretty much every pistol and compact SMG/PDW could be dual wielded, which made it a blast to play along side the max payne inspired bullet time shenanigans you could pull off. Even against bots it was really fun since it was like an action movie from the 80's with all the diving and shooting around corners.
Ugh I love these videos, and been playing CS2 so happy to watch. Cheers!
In CS2 the large majority of skins haven’t transferred to the new weapon models, so the Negev skin for example was being used on the CSGO model of the weapon due to the skin it had
Always interested In what ammunition each weapon is made to fire, how the standard barrel length affects that ammunition, etc. I know caliber vs cartridge and everything affecting the ballistics is a deep rabbit rabbit hole but if Johnathan could give more insight on this it'd be appreciated!
17:30 Skins DO change the model of the gun (which is most notable with MP5SD at 9:22), most skins seem to be ported right from CS:GO without any changes.
17:30 Yes on CS2 Skins do change the model of the gun, since all skins came from CSGO most of it are using the CSGO models instead of the new and high fidelity models, and i checked the skin Jonathan was looking and it still uses the old CSGO model.
On the topic of the Famas inclusion at least some of the models on some maps have the CT side wearing GIGN branded body armor, so they are indeed French police and would thus be plausibly equipped with the Famas. Notably the T side does not have access to the Famas and instead has access to a Galil, so the game is actually pretty plausibly matching who would have access to the Famas.
just wanna point out that in the older CS games (before GO) the dual berettas were just called "dual elites", so it makes sense that they used the "92G Elite" variant
The command you have to enter for keybinding buying dual berettas in a buyscript is still 'bind "buy elite" to this day.
Would be cool to see Jonathan review real life weapon "skins" like cartel customs and such
Jonathan, your pronunciation of "Negev" is perfect. The correct way is to put the stress on the syllable (NEgev).
I think it was the P228 in the prior CS games instead of the P250.
also one thing of note that I always remember from the older games is that the ammo pool was shared. if for example your pistol and SMG used the same ammo, they had a shared ammo pool, which could make buying bullets for both a little bit more economical, so it was useful to know what ammo each gun shot. now every weapon just has their own ammo pool and it doesn't really matter what ammo they use.
The P250 is not a starting pistol. Only the P2000, USP, and Glock are.
@@XenoSpyro true, I mixed it up with the P2000, since I haven't been playing a lot of CS:GO or CS2 these days.
On the topic of the Famas- In older CS games you could pick your character models and one of the groups represented were indeed french. Likewise, in CSGO the maps would have CTs represented as a group appropriate for the map, the french being one of those again. This hasn't been added into CS2 yet, but it's a good assumption that it will come in time.
Anyone else notice the weird animation for the Deagle where the slide locks back, but when it goes to reload the slide goes forward before even dropping the mag?
A True Lies reference! (MAC-10 firing by being dropped down stairs)
I'd really love to see a response to the guns from Saint's Row 3, some really interesting ones, I think
I love hearing people's reactions to the insane prices of skins, because to us who play the game we've gotten used to it and to us it's normal, but the reality is that the skin market can be ridiculous and I honestly wish it wasn't that way
The incremental increase of varying weaponry behind Jonathan is ALARMING!
Been playing Counter-Strike since 'Condition Zero' (and 'Half-Life', from which it was originally modded), so love videos like these.
I'd like to see Jonathan take a look at the guns from RoboCop: Rogue City. Lot of 80s action movie guns there.
