I'm sorry but I'm afraid to me this was a vindictive thing Leonard did he knew that instead of suing William or just balling him out he knew that the worst thing he could do to hurt William was to cut him off entirely. I know William can be a handful sometimes but he is a sensitive caring person underneath his bravado and he will be hurting for the rest of his life now, that to me was a nasty thing that Nimoy did!

what people need to remember when it comes to Trek drama.. A lot of this "came out" after Generations when the TOS had gotten the shaft from Paramount and screwed over to promote the new TNG crew. They were angry and knew they had no more films to make and they all wrote books. Drama sells books.
Now that isn't to say they all didnt have their problems but i think those problems over hyped more by the community than anything

This was a while back as I have been taking care of relatives and a Vietnam veteran who was having problems with a broken back...and then an exhusband with cancer and diabetes...he passed and covid19 struck and I lost 76 lbs and no clothes that fit so...like I texted it's been a while!

No way they were friends for 50 years only for it to end like that. Look, nimoy’s health was declining and he knew how shatner would react to it. Nimoy’s daughter reached out to shatner after his death to tell him “you know he loved you” like… they didn’t really hate each other or anything, nimoy was just trying to protect shatner at that point. They’d been through so much together and they could’ve gotten past that too, but nimoy didn’t want his friend to watch him die.

Shatner was/is a jealous diva and eagerly tried to keep the glory and the laurels for himself. All that became difficult since his co-star Spock/Nimoy became the more popular star of the series (lots of further difficulties were reported by the other crew members as well, Takei, Nichols, Doohan and Koenig can tell a lot about it). "Friend" was relative. I guess that the characterization "opportunistic" is very close to the truth, talking about Shatner claiming the friendship with Nimoy.

Shatner didn't go to the funeral because he was asked to not make an appearance. It was out of respect to Nimoy and his family that he didn't appear. As for the reason for the falling out, I've gone through the same thing - a dear friend was dying of cancer and didn't want his friends seeing him weak and frail so he cut ties with all his old friends. Maybe Nimoy was going through the same thing.

You are missing a lot of information here. Nimoy suffered from COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) which makes breathing extremely difficult. Perhaps he did not want to be seen that way in his final years. COPD makes conversation very difficult as well, I know, my father had COPD. I think the "break"between Nimoy and Shatner was much more complex. It is also a great shame.

LOTS of people have said that, including a great many cast members on Star Trek. I think there is a lot more to this story, so Shatner may be rewriting history to make himself look better. If that's true, then it's Shatner who is being mean-spirited (because how can Nimoy argue now?)

If you think not attending Leonard nimoy's funeral is bad, what about him not attending Gene roddenberry's funeral!? Paramount executives with very vivid memories of a drunk shatner acting scenes on the set of Star Trek screamed protesting insisting that the part should be recast. somebody else had to play Captain Kirk. Gene Roddenberry went to bat for William Shatner. Shatner's not showing up to his funeral is un Fing believable.

Nice and informative! My compliments. It's difficult to nail down which episode is my favorite after all of these years. Lol! The 1st season for me was more impactful. "The Cage" probably resonates more to a degree because of Pike's battle fatigue and seriously needing time to rediscover his purpose again as a man and Captain. Experiencing loss because of decisions made can make one doubtful. Then someone reading your mind and giving you what you "wanted" only to realize that was illusory at best. I'm babbling 🤣 What's your favorite?

I do not think there is anything disingenuous about Wm writing about Leonard. I have had 2 longtime friendships end abruptly and one I have no regrets and just leave it up to fate if there be a meeting again and the other seemingly recently ended and I would love to make up but attempts have not been returned. One can lose a friendship and still have deep feelings towards that person.

I beg your pardon for my bad English. Well, I think that Great LN was a little tired of always being the mature half of the friendship, always tolerating the self proclaimed Prima Donna from Scifi Opera. Decades of Shatner unnecessarily disputing with Nimoy is a heavy burden. If Shatner had used all that energy in his own career he'd achieved much more. But he was always trying to get some advantage. Nimoy had his own problems to deal with to play a father figure for Shatner. That's my humble opinion.

I love how everyone knows what really happened. But you don't. You just like to think you do. And William Shatner...well, guess who's still working. A few cast members - who couldn't get jobs - got up and got PAID years later to criticize him. But William Shatner was doing his job on the show which, apparently, was being a silent producer. As for Nimoy, they were friends - for years. Something happened, no one knows what. But stuff happens with friends. Many believe it was Nimoy's illness, and that he somehow blamed Shatner for it, which was illogical. Nimoy was a beautiful actor and a beautiful man, and the two had a friendship that few of us have - that lasted many years. It's a shame it didn't last, but that people blame Shatner for everything that even got rumored about ST is ignorant. We don't know, not really. A lot of what they think they know doesn't jive with what people at the time called a well-run set with Shatner keeping the tone light. But stupid people will say they know because it makes them feel smart. No, they're just cruel. Don't believe the crap. One thing of interest: Mr. Nimoy went home one day and told his wife of 35 years that he was leaving her. She was stunned. He'd never said a word. Now, who know why and how a marriage ends. But there's an indication that something was happening inside him that just wanted to get rid of things, start anew. Maybe even escape. It could have been his illness catching up with him. It could have been a lot of things. We don't know. But it left several people confused and bewildered. Life isn't logical. And despite all my words, we don't know a damn thing about people who are really strangers. But people pretending to know things can easily cause a lot of damage and hurt. Don't be one of them.

William Shatner is Jewish. He was born in Montreal, Quebec, (in Canada, for you Americans), which has a large Jewish community. His family were very observant, so he would be steeped in Judaism from birth. His origins are East European, specifically Lithuanian. He actually did a program where he returned to Lithuania to find his roots. If this seems too incredible, look it up. And BTW, Nimoy's family was quite observant as well. It was certainly not obvious that he was an atheist.

firstly shatner has talked about originally being jewish but is now more atheist. shatner is somewhat mean hearted and can be cruel. nimoy always tried his best to be kind and sweet to everyone. nimoy kept his faith and talks so proudly and passionately and proudly about his jewish beliefs, traditions, memories and heritage . even saying empowering things such as he hopes when/if he meets god he hopes shes a women. further - like every other religion/belief on the matter of god you cannot analyse athisims based on 1 example. i myself an an atheist, and believe i am way more forgiving than some religious people i have met but this does not define them or their religion either
