If I were coach I would definitely consider embracing this goal as a team goal and see what it would look like to build a squad style and mentality that could maximize Trents chances of winning the award this year or next. For one thing, he's paid his dues and for another it will certainly motivate him personally, and for a third the team would HAVE to win trophies for it to happen. Other players are often motivated more by wanting something for their mate than wanting something for a city or for the fans or for a club. How many goals and assists would Trent need? Who does he truly want to have around him on the right along with Mo of course? Who is the number 6 that can cover the best so Trent can roam as needed, and also make effective triangles with darting runs and quick passes to get Trent up the field for one of his signature crosses along the 6 yard box or the penalty spot? How can the guys on the opposite wing design their movements so someone is always showing up at the spot of the cross and someone else is always wide to pick up the ball in case its a full side to side cross? Which attacking midfielders and center forwards and wingers are best at drawing fouls around the box? Can Trent start taking PKs rather than Mo? Building momentum around a player is not always anathema to team success and on the contrary can actually be a great "solidarity builder" and "mentality consolidater."
