I wish this video had been available before I sewed my husband's shacket for Christmas. It would have saved me a lot of wasted fabric pieces. At first glance the fur backed wool blend fabric from G&G looked symmetrical. Lol, it was not! But it also seemed to have another element to it. To actually match up the front and back pieces at the side seams, I had to lay out the back pattern piece above and up side down, not beside the front piece, to continue the correct pattern and lines of the checks. Thankfully I ordered enough extra fabric to just be able to finish the shacket. Thank you Lauren. I've learned so much from you during 2022-2023. Looks like 2024 will continue the trend.
I am about to make a shacket from Robert Kaufman Mammoth flannel and wanted to try pattern matching for the first time. I found your blogpost and then came to this video - I really appreciate the level of detail in this tutorial which will help me make decisions about what parts of my shacket I want to match and what I don’t mind not matching. Thank you!
Wow this is a fantastic tutorial , I’ve never known where to start to get checks level this is a must rewatch over and over Thank you so much taking the time to make this invaluable video I personally appreciate it ❤️
This is a terrific tutorial. I find pattern matching so difficult with a button placket. I tried it once and it didn't work out but this video will definitely help. Thanks Lauren! You're a wonderful teacher 💕
Thank you Lauren! You have given such an excellent detailed tutorial on how to check/plaid match! I can’t wait to get to my summer check fabric to give this a try but still working on my winter wardrobe for an upcoming trip. Thanks again for taking the time to do this video and blog post with your very busy schedule.
I have Robert Kauffman fabric to make the Archer. I was inspired by your shirts I’m also just about to cut out another plaid to make a winter Myosotis. I’m allowing lots of time for the pattern matching
Thank you SO MUCH for this great tutorial! I am currently working on a wool refashioned project that is completely plaid and your careful guidance has kept it from going into the scrap bin (in little tiny pieces..)! I just finished the Sabel Cardi kit and the video for matching the "pattern" was just the same excellent standard!! xo Suzanne
Great tutorial Lauren thank you. I am making a dress where both front and back are cut on the bias....is it possible to match the side seam? It might be that I dont have enough fabric
Hello, I would look more at what is happening at the side of the sleeve and get it to match the bottom of the arm hole, as when your arm is by your side, you'd want the check to be matching from the body into the sleeve as that is more prominent, and it won't matter as much what happens exactly at the seam between the sleeve head and the bodice as that is one curve fitting another curve anyway so it will never be able to match exactly. I hope that helps. :)
I like that you pattern matched your pockets. It looks elegant.
