    AFFILIATE LINK DISCLOSURE: Friends, making a quality Loloho video is kind of like making sausage - only slightly more violent. It's a ridiculous amount of work that typically involves high dollar camera drops, blue-screen-of-death computer crashes, and at least one angry shotgun wielding old man shouting, “Hey! Get the hell outta here!” Once the final video is posted, rewards here on TH-cam are few and far between (unless you are a masochist who enjoys being verbally abused by anonymous trolls). One saving grace is our affiliate links. JUST CLICKING THESE LINKS HELPS TO SUPPORT OUR LITTLE SHOW. Think of this clicking as like tipping - except that it doesn't cost you anything extra! If you eventually make a purchase via one of our affiliate links, we will receive a few pennies (and Sean typically invests these pennies in duct tape and video gear). Again, it doesn't cost you anything to click these links, and it's a great help to us. As always, safe travels, happy camping, and THANK YOU!

    Kudos to Vinnie and his wife. There are millions of great helpful kind people throughout the U.S. and Canada. I was helped a great deal in Texas in several different places...yes, several! It took me 3 months to get out of Texas. 😫 But, as I said, the people were wonderful and they all went the extra mile to make each day an adventure, as well as a cram course on what can happen to an RV. 😨 As you said, plan on it, expect it and roll with the punches...bam bam bam! What an adventure. : )

    You have to love people like Vinny and his wife. It is so rare these days to find someone that will go the extra mile to do a good job and make the customer happy. We need more craftsmen like Vinny in the world. I'm glad everything worked out.

      Thanks, we are enjoying our little "chat show" too. Sometimes it's fun to just roll the camera and talk. I'm glad that these videos have been helpful and enjoyable. Yes, Vinnie and Cindy are great. Good people still exist, and a disproportionate number of them seem to be into RV camping!

      Long Long Honeymoon Just one more reason why I think the RV life is going to be for me after I save up enough money to buy a decent motorhome and have less debt to worry about. Your videos are extremely helpful. I just finished reading your book on living large, and have taken down a lot of notes on the must-have items you mentioned. I plan on starting to accumulate them over time beforehand so that my costs don't seem so large when I make the ultimate move out of my apartment.

    There are still great people in the world. Vinny is one heck of a guy. You are very lucky, you could have been in some serious trouble, some people would have taken advantage of you in that bad situation. Happy things went well for you, Vinny is a great guy. Fun story.

    You two made a disaster into something positive. What a great video. My wife and I are going through something similar only in reverse after the harsh winter destroyed much of our home. We now live in our camper while I'm making repairs to our home, giving us a good learning experience for us, before we eventually hit the road. By the way your Airstream looks great, thumbs up for Vinny too!

    That video helped restore my faith in people that most of them will be good people given the chance. I love stories like this- esp when they happen to me. I also love paying it forward. Ex I really needed a couple of documents from my Dr for social security disability. I was too poor to pay him. My husband and I had been trash scrounging for bottles to sell. I explained how broke we were and asked to make payments. Th doc waived the fee. After my ssd was approved I offered to repay him and he said no to pay drs without borders or someone like that. We gave them 5 pounds of organic strawberries from our garden as well. Pay it forward!

    Wow, what an ordeal! Thank goodness for Vinnie!! YAY! The Airstream looks great. I was expecting a total loss on that floor - what a relief. The choice of color was a good one too. I have 2 roadside services. Stuck 30 miles out of Austin Tx & they could not get me help?? Fortunately, a local mechanic stopped to help me. Then there was the time for the transmission rebuild in Arkansas...yep, stuff happens! But you just have to roll with it....great job guys!!!

  • @ToddFelmly
    @ToddFelmly 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Wow what a hit in the checkbook that month! Seemore is still a great truck. The 6.0's achilles heel is the oil cooler plugging up causing the EGR cooler to overheat and crack. This dumps coolant into the combustion. Bullet proof it and he'll be good to go for a long time.
    Love watching your videos! Can't wait for the Alaska videos.

    • @markdalton9882
      @markdalton9882 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've got the same engine. What do you mean "bullet proof" it? If there is anything I can do to prevent this disaster, I'd like to know what.

    • @ToddFelmly
      @ToddFelmly 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Got some time to read? Here's a bit to get you started:
      www.thedieselstop.com/forums/f23/what-does-take-build-bulletproof-6-0-how-much-276739/
      And another good read:
      drive.google.com/file/d/0B-lbWZownuZzbmFvSUhwazI0Z3M/edit?usp=sharing
      www.google.com/search?q=bulletproof+powerstroke+6.0&rlz=1CAGGAA_enUS520US521&oq=bulletproof+powerstroke+6.0&aqs=chrome..69i57j0l5.7466j0j8&sourceid=chrome&es_sm=122&ie=UTF-8
      The root of the cause is the oil cooler getting plugged up from the Motorcraft Gold coolant. When this happens the efficiency of the oil cooling / engine cooling is diminished.
      If the coolant passages get clogged, the next device in line which is the EGR cooler gets starved for cooling. It super heats and cracks. When this happens you'll get coolant leaking into your exhaust. You'll know this is happening because you'll see steam from the tailpipe.
      It's a good idea to get a set of guages that can read oil temperature and coolant temperature. If the delta between the two is more than 15 degrees you are running into problems.
      Unless things are really bad and the Loloho video didn't go too much into it, replacement of those parts is usually all you need. If the engine gets hot enough due to this you could crack a head and that gets expensive.
      If you put $5000 into it to bullet proof, you can be assured a long life of the 6.0.
      Good luck!

    So happy it worked out so well in the end. That is unforgivable leaving you stranded on the highway. That's the first thing AAA asks you when you call "ARE YOU IN A SAFE PLACE" obviously you weren't. They could have put you in a motel until morning. If you were willing to leave your rig. Somebody sure dropped the ball on Customer Service. Sounds like Vinny is Super Star. You didn't mention was Baby Girl OK? I love your videos always good information. Thank you

    Seeing those bumps and potholes at 4:30 makes me grind my teeth with anxiety. Can't even imagine hundreds of miles of that - I would need new molars after we're through! Great advice... I sure appreciate you guys documenting the journey, as it may be a bit much for us.

    • @LongLongHoneymoon

      That was a brief stretch of road in the Valdez area. I don't want to scare people away from going to Alaska. It's a demanding journey, but really the Alcan was surprisingly good for much of the way. There are many frost heaves that create instability and uneven surfaces, but they are well marked with orange warning flags. The worst portion we traveled was in the appropriately named Destruction Bay area on the Yukon - our rig took a heavy beating there because the road was under reconstruction. We have a big archive of Alaska footage. I would like to do something special with it, maybe give it the full documentary treatment.

    I'm learning tons from your videos!! If I can share one thing with you guys, I would suggest getting a subscription to Diesel Power magazine. There will be tons of information in there for you that will be helpful for you to know about your truck. Those EGR's on those Powerstrokes are notorious for failure. There are many companies in Diesel Power magazine that offer much better replacement solutions over the crappy Ford EGR design. If you had your truck serviced at the Ford dealership, they would have used the exact same design as a replacement - which is sure to fail on you again. Get a better than factory EGR for your truck, so that you won't ever get stranded by it for the EGR again. Or...do what I did and get a 2015 GMC Sierra Denali 3500HD with the Duramax, and get rid of the EGR, PCV, DPF, DEF and finally enjoy serious horsepower, torque and 25 mpg!! :)

      +ace1usmc Thanks for the tip, we will be looking at making some changes to our tow situation soon (even if that means simply modifying our truck with some aftermarket EGR solution & tuning that addresses the original design problems). We still enjoy our truck and it has performed well this year... but there is always lingering concern about the EGR. I might consider switching horses if the right deal came along. ;) Cheers

    Here we are, four years later.
    I am curious to know how things stood up to time. Knowing that the Pergo is a floating floor, would you recommend installing one in an RV rehab?
    I haven’t watched all your videos, but I am working on it, so I’m not sure if you’ve purchased a new Airstream since this video or not.
    Thanks for your reply.

    This was a great video, but it's also the stuff of nightmares for those of us in our late 50's who are looking to have a lot more road time after retirement. Between the trailer and Seemore I can't imagine what this all cost - could take a big bite out of the savings, and would have been so much worse if the truck had broken down in Alaska or the Yukon. (F150 all the way, btw!) My question is - how did you live with the waterlogged floor all the way to California?

    When calculating how much weight the new flooring added to your airstream did you subtract the weight of the carpet and pad you removed? I’m curious because 100 lbs seems to me to be rather on the high side. Also, when I removed the carpet+pad from my RV and replaced it with Pergo laminate flooring the overall weight decreased.
    I love your videos, I haven’t seen them all yet but I’m working on it lol. You are truly blessed in many ways. Thank you for sharing your journey with all of us. About to take the plunge and buy an Airstream. So many models and so many considerations. With all I learned from your video I want to have the factory do all that upgrade you guys did to the floor. I get the idea of insulation with carpet but I was thinking just plain linoleum? Have had a bit of a life change. No wife and the kids are all grown but no grandchildren yet. We have loved going to Hatteras Island in the summer and tent camping. The best site is the National Seashore Camp Ground at Frisco, NC. Mean while I want to explore. Your video's are very informative and you sound like a couple of friends across the picnic table. Just bought a RAM 1500 with Hemi 5.7liter. Quad Cab Big Horn. What a honkin' tank, still getting used to it. I want to take the children with me though they are ranging from 19-32 (3 young ladies and 3 young men. SO WHAT HAPPENED TO THE TRUCK IN NAPA? NEW ENGINE OR REPAIR?

    • @LongLongHoneymoon
      @LongLongHoneymoon  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi William, we got a new oil cooler and EGR cooler in Napa. Really, we may end up deleting the EGR cooler from our truck - it's a major failure point in 6.0L engines. With regard to your floor, well, it's all a matter of personal preference. I think linoleum would probably be pretty easy to install, would be durable, and lightweight. I do wonder how you might handle a water leak situation, though (it may be tough to cut and "patch" linoleum?). Just something to consider. One of the benefits of Pergo is that we can lift and replace floorboards pretty easily.

      Long Long Honeymoon I looked around and didn't see a video for the truck so I would like to make this recommendation. Take a look online at Powerstroke Magic Houston. I have no affiliation with them other than I had them completely rework my truck so it doesn't look to blow itself up now. You also need new head stud bolts and better head gaskets or it will put you in a bind. Not to alarm you but just the way it is for a 6.0. Done right that Ford will go for many years more. Thanks for the videos. We may be on the road with ya'll here in a few more years.

      @LongLongHoneymoon  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the suggestion. Yes, I really want to get some work done to our 6.0 before too much longer. We are just past 100k miles on the truck, and we want to have all of the key "6.0 issues" addressed.

    My first thought is you guys are braver than I am... But then I tow a Forrest River TT and there's absolutely NO WAY I'd take it up the Alcan HWY to the Yukon. If I had an Airstream? Different question totally...
    Curious - in round figures, what did the floor repair / renovation end up costing. I've been thinking about exactly the same thing; just wondering about doing that after spending over $3K on a new - better quality - roof this year.
    But still jealous of the ongoing trip!

    I watched the floor cover change out with laminate and it appeared to be very well done and it was beautiful. I have a concern with laminate because humidity and serious temperature cause expansion or contraction. When we had new laminate put down on our basement floor it looked really well done until I came home from work one day not long after the installation to find a hill in the middle of the floor. The laminate had lifted due to expansion. We spoke to the laminate supplier and they said that it was possible the installer had not left a clearance between the edge of the wall and the edge of the laminate. The installer came back and cut a clearance around the new floor laminate. The laminated settled back down and we never had another problem. Did you have to leave an expansion clear in the new floor? Exactly what was the pergo made from, ie; wood, plastic, .....? Thanks We have a 2014 27FB with vinyl flooring. We had a small flood just after we acquired it from the A/C lines being blocked. Had the floor been a certain type of laminate the floor would have been destroyed by the expansion and bubbling. We had a problem like that when a dehumidifier over flowed at home!!

    im enjoying your videos but this one hit home because im a ford diesel mechanic. I know all to well about the 6.0l egr cooler problems. good for you to realize our government has caused more emission problems due to failed egr coolers than it prevents! but when fixed right, theres nothing like the power of a 6.0l!

    • @LongLongHoneymoon
      @LongLongHoneymoon  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Chris Witzel Thanks for your comment. Yes, when the 6.0 is kickin' it is great; we've towed our Airstream through the Rocky Mountains in some incredibly demanding environments, and it has performed like a champ. Our 6.0L is running pretty good these days, but I fear another EGR failure. We are hoping to get our EGR deleted soon.

  • @jasoncarpp7742
    @jasoncarpp7742 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    That's just unforgivable, that a roadside assistance organisation would just leave you stranded, and not even *attempt* to send someone to either tow the damn truck and trailer, or even repair whatever the problem happens to be. I hope you were able to get the problem fixed.

    • @LongLongHoneymoon
      @LongLongHoneymoon  10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Several months later, after we filed paperwork pleading our case, Good Sam reimbursed us "at their discretion." While I give them credit for the reimbursement, I'm flabbergasted that it was necessary. Leaving us stranded in that situation was pretty much inexcusable. I've not heard a satisfactory explanation for it.

    • @jasoncarpp7742
      @jasoncarpp7742 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Long Long Honeymoon Damn right! Although I'm not a member of Good Sam, since I don't own a travel trailer or motorhome, with a name like Good Sam, (or Good Samaritan), you'd think they would be willing to help you out, towing Seemore (the truck) and Live(?) (the Airstream), to your friend so that he could help repair and replace the interior to the trailer. But *no!* They left you to pretty much fend for yourselves. That's just unforgivable. What do you plan to do now? Are you going to look for another club to join? It seems after all the bs they put you two through, to be a good thing to do. You don't have to put up with that crap. Thank goodness you had Vinnie to help with replacing the interior. :(

    Looks like I am not the only one who has had this exact problem. I was towing my 5th Wheel from Charlotte, NC to Lakeland RV Resort in Florida in my brand New 2004 Ford F-250 6.0 liter. We had 18,000 miles on the truck. Get to Georgia and Noticed its running a little hot..OK no worries.. Add water and Stop for the night in RV park in Marietta. Get up next day and Drive on. We are on I-4 in traffic when the truck starts to overheat pulling a 35' 5th Wheel. Add more water. Still over heating and nowhere to get off the road. Drive on to the Lake-land and pull in. Turn off the truck and that's all folks!!..Never started again. Call Local Ford to come get the truck. They called next day an accuse me of racing, illegal Fuel, Chipping, Programming and everything else they could think of NOT to replace the engine under warranty. It was the EGR cooler of course that caused it..The truck had 18K Miles on it!!! So after we threaten them with legal action they agreed to replace the engine. ( How nice of them ). 2 Weeks later I get the truck back and have to drag home my 5th wheel on an engine that's not even broke in yet. Fast forward to 2015 and i still have the truck as a 10 Mile day Commuter and it only has 47,000 miles on the motor and its burning OIL at a rate of 2 quarts a month. Of Course its out of warranty now. When they work they work great but when they break they cost a crap load to fix. Should have never sold my 7.3..
