And he was not trying to replace anyone. Billy Miller's character was actually NOT Jason Morgan - - THAT IS THE WHOLE POINT - - and that aspect likely would have been brought out in the storyline even if Steve Burton had not returned. The character of Jason Morgan could have remained dead and Billy Miller's character could have been revealed as the twin regardless. The criticism that viewers had about Billy's portrayal show that the character was not Jason more than it shows Billy Miller being a poor actor {which he IS NOT}. The fact that Billy Miller's character wanted to put Sam and the children first and leave the mob was solid evidence the character was not Jason because Jason Morgan shows time and again he will NEVER leave Sonny and Carly. The way Billy Miller's character related to Monica when it was thought he was Jason to me also was evidence {in hindsight} that it was not Jason. I liked Jason in 2016/17 - - I said boy is he different. It was not poor writing or poor acting - - as I said I think that was the direction they were going whether or not Steve Burton returned. Yes you are correct - - Steve is Jason and now I again hate Jason. KM and Billy Miller genuinely like each other and it came across on the screen. SB and KM were great acting partners before 2012, but for me what Jason did to Sam in 2012 finished it - - he should have stayed in the river then we would see a happy KM and a happy Sam.
For those who still have doubts about Jason and Sam and about the fact that they are each other one true love, we encourage you to analyze and think about all the details the writers decided to include as part of the wedding storyline. There are no coincidences in all the details and the facts they decided to include. First, there is the fact that Robin, Jason's first love after the accident, the person that once told him that one day he would meet someone that would be absolutely perfect for him acknowledged that Sam was that person for Jason. Robin said that Jason finally found in Sam the absolutely perfect person for him. Second, here we have Jason taking Sam to the place where the Box Cart was located which was the first place that Jason considered a home after the accident. He felt safe and free there because at his family's house he felt trapped. Furthermore, it was at said significant place for Jason that he took the opportunity to tell Sam that finally with her he feels the same way he felt back then, free, safe and at home. It was extremely significant when Jason told Sam that he found home with her something he never found with anyone else. It was significant and very meaningful because for Jason "home" is not a place and it's not a thing for him "home" is Sam. She helped him made sense of his life. In other words, she is the only one that gives meaning to Jason's life. That's what making sense of his life meant in said context. So it stands to reason, that what the writers did with Jason's and Sam's wedding storyline was bringing Jason's life full circle. From the lost brain damaged guy to the guy that finally found his home with his one true love. There is no denying this. The facts are clear and undisputable. Unfortunately, for those whom may not agree with us, nobody can rewrite history much less any scripts or storyline. Blessed be!
This is a great comment and I agree with you up until 2012.... The way he treated her about the baby ended it for me … even though yes they ARE each others true love there was no coming back for me. Seeing that he puts them before Sam, I think the mob, Sonny and Carly give more meaning to his life than Sam or his children do. When I analyze what I saw of the character of Sam from 2012 - 2017 I feel she grew as a person … always put her son first... had a great rapport and became friends with Jake Doe even before the thought of that character being Jason …. then she fell in love with that person not just because she thought it was Jason … but him {she saw differences in his action} …. he put her and the children before Sonny and Carly and he wanted to leave the mob and Sam was thrilled. We can't rewrite history and we can't recapture history either and to me it's sad the writers want to undo all the progress the character of Sam made without Jason Morgan. She now has basically reverted back to when there were no kids and having sex with Jason is her main focus. Neither the characters nor the actors really work well together at this point. It was a failed attempt the recapture something that was over in 2012.

I've been watching all these ild Jasam scenes this. I'm okay with NuJason but there will never be any other Jason but Steve. I got to watch this live at home the first time it aired. There was just something about Jason with his wedding band and the James Morrison song that made this scene EVERYTHING!!
I wish they would write a special story where's Sam takes Jason on a surprise weekend with the kids and they go to this cabin that Jason hasn't seen in a long time

The appeal of the Jason Morgan character was the mob connection. Love it or hate it, the mob was integral to the Jason Morgan character. Without that he becomes just another man on the street. Essentially what they did was create a new character for Billy to play, but kept the name Jason Morgan. It worked for two reasons. Some fans could just not give up Jason Morgan so they accepted a recast although the character was almost unrecognizable. And new fans accepted him because they had no basis for comparison. But Steve Burton is Jason Morgan. There is just too much of Steve in Jason Morgan for anyone else to ever play him as he should be.
The point of the storyline was always going to be that the character Billy Miller was playing was NOT Jason. The character Jake Doe -> Jason 2.0 -> Drew Cain always appealed to me. He was unrecognizable because he was NOT Jason. I don't feel it was bad writing, I just think he was going to be the twin all along. The character had much more emotional depth than the real Jason. The real Jason could have been killed in 2012 as per Faison's orders after the memory transfer and the story would still have worked without SB returning. The loss of Billy Miller …. was NOT smart … rather stupid really …. because he and KM shined in scenes together because they genuinely like each other. No, that was a safe house he set up for his meetings withLiz. This house belongs to him personally, he had it built just for him and he said he never took anyone else there. It is built on the site where the old boxcar once stood. It was his sanctuary where he would go to think. He even worked on the house himself. He said he had hopes they would spend their wedding night there, which, of course they did. It was a special place to him.
