I have a 4 year old Aussie I hike and camp with. He is such a great hiking partner. He's my first line of defense. Extremely protective. My boy loves to climb the mountains and loves a good view. We hike off leash on the AT in NY , NJ , VT and NH. After hiking more than 2-3 miles on the AT there's usually no hikers around because most don't want to hike that far lol They adapt and learn so fast. They wont go far from you. If my boy see's somebody around a blind corner he would stop and wait for me to put his leash on or wait for a command. No worries about getting lost when a trail is not marked. Just follow the Aussie. I never used treats for training but sometimes I think i should of. I just use a high pitch Yo or Hey and he darts towards me. Cool video and good luck with your boy.
aussies are excellent hiking buddies!! wow that’s amazing that you do that with them!! they really know how to keep their freedom off leash! thanks for sharing! 🥰
hi hi!! If he spots a person/dog before me, he will stand still and look at me/them! Then i'll recall him over with a jackpot of treats! I can make a video about this!
@@AstroFromTheBlue Do you have any tips for training that? I would love for my dog to be able to be off leash but unfortunately he is not trustworthy as he will go up to people and bark at them. Not sure why he barks he loves people but apparently he thinks he can do whatever off leash.
Beautiful puppy dog!❤
Your moment of gratitude for your boyfriend was so sweet 🥰
heheh, always have to appreciate the ones you love! 🥰

What does he do if you come across another person or dog on a trail?

Yes, I put some of my tips in my other hiking videos! Do you use a long lead? We started off using a 25 ft leash before trusting him to be off leash!
