@@francistregear Yes it is the real issue.
Any authority appointed to decide what is hate speech will quickly become autocratic, and ultimately tyrannical. I would rather have free speech for all, which means that I can be hated in speech, but which also means that I can defend myself in speech.
Legislating for everything that anyone might consider hate speech would lead to more pages in lawbooks than tax law. It is unworkable.
However, we should still have laws covering libel, slander and incitement to violence.
Let's restrict law to cover actual harm rather than hurt feelings.

Noam Chomsky, a leftist, said that if you only support free speech for views you like and dont support free speech for views you despise, you dont support free speech. The late US law professor Ronald Dworkin, a Democrat, had a similar view. His article on free speech and the right to ridicule defended this principle.
Free speech is the foundation of secular liberal democracy. Totalitarian, Stasi- minded people always try to suppress it.

Why not do something about the crimewave that's rampant in society? Why not cease giving taxpayer funds to terrorist organizations? Why not stop importing more troublemakers into the country? Why not stop telling lies about all of these things?

Isaiah 5:20 - “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.”
Luke 6:42 - How can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.
