It's an absolute delight to hear the man himself talking about how these songs were conceived and recorded. I had no idea he'd worked with John Paul Jones! Great stuff, thanks for all the work you do!
JPJ and Pagey played on a lot of sessions back then. On songs they wouldn't want to admit they played on but I'm not talking about 'No Milk Today'. It's a perennial gem.
I'm 70 and Peter Noone was my bedroom pin-up. I bought every Teen Beat magazine I could find with Herman's Hermits in it. What wonderful years and such good memories! We really had the best music then. I'm so glad younger people are listening and enjoying it. Still love you Peter!!!❤❤❤
The flip side of this record is "There's a Kind of Hush" which I will always love and on the album of the same name, Peter Noone did great renditions of "Jezebel" and "End of the World." I also loved a song on that album titled "East West." Cannot leave out "Silhouettes" and "I Can Take or Leave Your Lovin" as two other favorites.
Peter lives on Long Island. Back before 9/11 they used to have daytime concerts at the World Trade Center in summer. Usually each day of the week had a different genre (Oldies, Blues, Pop, Classical, Jazz). Most years the same guy opened and closed the summer concert series and that guy was Peter Noone. He was always great!
Great to see Peter looking so good. A true Mancunian star. As a Manchester born lad myself, he and the Hermits, and other bands from our city, are all heroes, Hermans Hermits, The Hollies, 10CC, The Smiths, jBee Gees, Noel & Liam Gallagher/Oasis, Take That, New Order, The Stone Roses, Simply Red, amongst many many others.
Peter is still a fantastic singer. His voice defies logic. My wife helped Peter sell merchandise, so I was fortunate enough to run around with Peter before and after some shows. My daughter was his equal as far as sense of humor. He was a tremendous. person who never failed to crack me up.In his mid 70's and honestly sounds as good or better than he did in his younger days, plus his band is no slouch. Peter is a true superstar.
I will never forget seeing Peter and HH performing at Expo '86 in Vancouver in an outdoor ampitheatre. "There's a Kind of Hush" had everybody inside and outside the theatre singing along. Magical moment.
Wow, I watched your other videos with him and I thought, They should do "No Milk Today". You have Peter there in the back singing along. Wow, this is so much more than cool. Great Googley Moogley. I am loving this.
My ex and I caught Peter Noone live about 15 or so years ago at our relatively small city in Michigan. He performed a lot of the Herman's Hermits songs with a band. It was a great and fun performance and Peter was full of energy. So cool that he is still so active.
This is actually my favorite Herman's Hermits song. I had the 45. But it was only the B-side. You definitely need to check out the A-side because that was a huge hit of theirs entitled There's a Kind of Hush.
That was interesting to learn about John Paul Jones' role in the making of this song. I've always known it as one of the many great songs written by Graham Gouldman, one of the founding members of the band, 10cc. And I just looked it up, but Gouldman did grow up near Manchester.
Have such happy childhood memories of Herman's Hermit songs. This is such a pretty song with the minor key, sounds like a traditional ballad and one of my favorites, glad to see it is one of Peter's top picks! I met Peter Noone in 2000 while on a Caribbean cruise. I was completely tongue-tied and shy when I met him in person for an autograph along with a bunch of other cruise guests who had queued up. I was very star struck and awkward! Peter was so kind and gracious, I"m sure he'd seen so many like me and knew how to handle it and make me feel at ease. I will never forget that!
The song where I finally took Herman's Hermits seriously as a legitimate act with quality music. Ironically, in America it was the B side of "There's A Kind Of Hush", which also earned massive respect. One of the best A/B side singles ever released.
Kathie says… Hello again Peter! What a treat to see you again!! I saw you live once, on THE OPRAH SHOW that was broadcast from THE SOUTHLAKE MALL, MERRILLVILLE, INDIANA, along with Davey Jones and Mark Lindsay from Paul Revere and the Raiders. Of course it was a thrill!! Peter, you age like Fine Wine!! Thank you Rob and Amber for these awesome interviews!! Such fun!!
Just discovered this song recently. Thought it kind dark for Herman's Hermits. So glad to hear Peter's take. This channel get cooler by the day! ✌️y'all
Herman's Hermits always had the more serious side among the tongue-in-cheek such as "I Understand" and "End of the World." "Listen People" is another example of such a hit. Great to see Peter!
Yes, 1 of the Hermits best songs, wild to know that JPJones didn't just play bass but contributed to the fine arrangements. Peter so nice to see and hear from you. Along with so many of us, we've loved you and your work since we first saw you. Thanks for being here. Jay and Amber, some great choices for your 1st 3 Creators, each of them top of the line in every way. I'm thinking it's only gonna get better so thanks for everything.
This was one of my favorite songs in high school in 1979. My fourth grade teacher had a music hour once a week and he would play his stuff and would preview our records and would play them the next week if they passed. HH was the only record he played all year.
I really appreciate the opportunity to hear and see the creators talk about their works, explain the meanings and nuances, and see them react! So amazing to see this 😍
OMG IT'S PETER! Awww it's been years since I've seen him! He still looks wonderful and his voice hasn't changed a bit! I became a Noonatic (fan) from the late 90s-00s, hung out with him in his chatroom after shows and traveled all over the eastern US to see him in 15+ of his shows. When I saw Amber wearing one of Peters official shirts for "Dead Poets Society", I had to rush over to this channel to see how she got it. This is truly amazing! Thank you for letting me see him again, I loved this so much and brought back so many wonderful memories. He has always been so delightful & has a great sense of humor. I've missed it.
I've loved this song since it first came out, but I never knew the meaning of "Two up, Two Down" until today. This series of reactions with the artists is brilliant. Well down!
How lucky to speak with Peter live! This is my favorite song by Herman's Hermits. I was 5 when it came out but I know all the music since I shared a room with my older sister. Great reaction guys.
First of all, this is my first time hearing this song and it is awesome! Second, Does Peter Noone ever age? He in no way, shape or form looks like what I would picture as a 76 year old man! Looking good, Peter! Love you guys! This was such a treat!
Herman's Hermits Greatest Hits, wore that record out! How can you not love this guy right? Great songs, great band! He was most charming frontman of the "British Invasion" along with the less charming frontman Mick Jagger, besides all of the Beatles they were the only ones who's names you knew. Of course, we all thought he was Herman.
The British Invasion was truly the backbone of the 60's. The Beatles set the pace and made all those bands play as hard as them, which in turn, made American bands play even better.
But strangely forbidden by the BBC. Brits had to listen to late-night broadcasts from Germany or from offshore pirate stations to enjoy the bands from their own country that were dominating the charts around the world.
@@Laceykat66 America tried to squash rock and roll when Elvis first came out too. Sad they'd try to stop people from being happy, but kid's will always find a way.
@@josephtingley654 True, but that was local stations. In England, it was the law of the land. I just find it funny that we had the "British Invasion" and they could not.
These are great videos. I can remember being VERY young in the 60s. IMO, the Beatles were music gods, existing above everyone else, then there was Herman's Hermits and Peter. Peter was always relatable, and accessible, even for a child in midwest. Always seemed like such a wonderful guy.
I've seen Peter Noone twice performing at Epcot at the outdoor pavilion. He was so much fun to see and hear - still has a great voice. And he really plays to the audience with humor and fun.
One of my favourite Herman's Hermits songs is "She's A Must To Avoid." I had an ex-girlfriend who was the epitome of this song, she tore me apart when she left.
I have so enjoyed these sessions with Peter Noone. Herman's Hermits was probably my favorite band in my early adolescent years. My first crush was Peter Noone, back in those days that was a secret I could only let a few people in on.
One of my favorite groups back in the day. I still sing a number of their songs at karaoke, mostly "Mrs Brown, You've Got a Lovely Daughter". I really liked imitating the British accent. Thanks to Peter for appearing on your show and thanks to you two for all the wonderful oldies.
Composed by Graham Gouldman, later of 10 CC ( of the immortal "I'm Not In Love" ). The song was offered first to The Hollies who did Gouldman's song "Bus Stop", but they declined. Gouldman also wrote "For Your Love", a big hit for The Yardbirds.
What a genuinely nice person Peter is, he is having a blast talking to you two. If he hadn’t gotten into the music business I could see him as a teacher.
This was amazing, Peter is a great guy, he had a solo career as well being the front man of "Herman's Hermits". He recorded and released "Oh, You Pretty Things" before David Bowie who wrote it.
Bowie let a lot of acts release songs he wrote before he released them. "Oh you pretty things" "China girl" Iggy Pop (iggy and David wrote this together) "Man who sold the World " Lulu "All the young dudes" Mott the Hoople Just some of them
I don't know when that actually was, but there was some news report saying that there would be 'no more milk today', as Peter Noone, the singer of Herman's Hermits had died! And that was several years ago! Am I ever happy to have been lead astray for so many years (yes, Wikipedia confirmed it for me, he's not listed as dead yet...) ;P It may have been the before mentioned song, or that English king, or Mrs Brown's lovely daughter, the kind of Hush surrounding it, or even the End of the World, unless he's onto something good... But if you, like me, love this kind of 60's pop, try out The Monkees' Daydream Believer or (especially!) Daydream Believer! Lovely reaction video, though! Still, 1966, the year before I was born. My mother liked the Kinks, she hated the very looks of their guitarist, Dave Davies. I loved his (first?) solo album from the late 70's... I think we both love Tom Jones from the 60's and 70's... Hmm, have you chanced to react to Tom Jones' 'Delilah'? That one could NEVER have been recorded and released today!!! I love it (and hate it...)!
I love Peter Noone & I like this song, never heard it before. Herman’s Hermits was part of The British Invasion & was on the Ed Sullivan show like all the others, we loved them all. Peter still looks good these days…love the song!👍👏👏👏💙💙💖🌸
I've enjoyed Herman's Hermits since I was a kid. I have to admit I've never heard this song! 1st time I've heard a song on your channel that I didn't know! Thanks for this! I just discovered your channel this past week and have been binge watching! I'm with Jay in being a HUGE Bee Gees fan. They were my very 1st concert in '79. Thanks for all your positivity and as Amber says "keeping it real!"
My family had a dairy business that delivered milk in all the local towns and one consequence was that my classmates would sing this at me to annoy me.( the words got changed to " No milk today , the cows have run away , we chased them all last night , all they did was sh*te " ).
I listened to these songs on the radio when they were first released. I can still sing along word for word with most of them, and still listen to them often today. I've always loved this band. If you'd like another bit different tune, listen to "Marcel's on the Thames".
I've been a subscriber and fan from day 1. When Rob was on No Limit Twon!!!! I subbed that first video. And to think...Amber joined not long after, one of the first reactor couples. And in just a few short years now you have the actual ARTIST joining you on your videos! Amazing and much kudos to you two. I've truly enjoyed your growth and success.
I love the fact that he can't help but sing along with his own songs. It's great.
We all do that!
I loved how he was seeing himself, all those years ago, and enjoying it:)
It’s so cool that you got him to participate… It’s also so cool that he’s a fan of you guys as much as we are. 👍❤️

He was also a member of The Mockingbirds, a band that should have had more success.
@@petercena9497 that’s right. I only heard one song by then on that nuggets international box set

it's the song Lenny sings to his bowling ball on The Simpsons

Great to see and hear Peter Noone. Another vote for "A Kind Of Hush", along with "East, West" and "Don't Go Out Into The Rain".

A classic single with two great sides on it.
Got the original U.K. single among other Herman’s hermits singles even got a couple of Peter noones solo singles

No Milk Today was written by Graham Gouldman of 10cc. I don't think Peter mentioned that. It's always been my favourite Herman's Hermits song.

I subbed that first video. And to think...Amber joined not long after, one of the first reactor couples.
And in just a few short years now you have the actual ARTIST joining you on your videos!
Amazing and much kudos to you two. I've truly enjoyed your growth and success.
Wow, you got to watch the video with Peter Noone! That is awesome! And he looks terrific after all these years. Bravo! Great video!
