Newage did such an amazing job, giving us a cartoon accurate Starscream with a great alt mode, I don't see why masterpiece models don't take cues in order to make a great Starscream that isn't over-engineered
It is crazy how dated MP-11 looks now. I definitely prefer the overall proportions of the DS version. The hardware seems much more consistent, and I love the articulation. I may have to check out a repaint. thanks Matt.
Well compared. I, too, like DS-001 more than MP-52. Although, I was surprised when you said that if you like the toon version more you are going to go with the Masterpiece; the main reason I chose Deformation Space version is because it represents the cartoon model more accurately than MP-52 - including the backside. Anyway, I agree with you about the transformation. It is not easy, so the official version undoubtlessly wins on that category. It also has a flight stand, which is another plus, but on all the other aspects Crimson Wings is the winner: better sculpt, better build, better articulation, better colours and better jet mode. So 'tis a clear winner in my opinion.
Awesome! All in on Deformation. For the love of Alpha Trion I hope they release TC & SW! Will display in robot mode only and have MakeToys Jets at their feet! Come on man!
Mp 52 would probably look good going up against the mp carbots, which I always thought to short. While crimson wing matches prime and the bigger bots, in my opinion. Crimson wing is for me.
personally i believe ds is in scale if you use mp megs for scale starscream is shoulder height starscream is 16ft tall whilst megs is 19 (from the top of starscreams head) if you use mp soundwave then mp starscream is in scale
Luckily I rarely ever want my Transformers in their vehicle modes so I don't have to worry about transforming them. Paint scratching only happens because they don't put a finish over their paint job. A thin layer of Pledge can help with that (pledge floor gloss can be used as a good lacquer finish.)
I got Crimson Wings and I had the same problem with the front landing gear flap not fastening. You can use pledge floor polish or small dabs of gorilla glue, and let dry before snapping the door back in.
Awesome review! I'm happy with my MakeToys Starscream but I would get Def Space one of the two, just seems to have captured him so much better and can't argue with that price.
Boy am I glad I cancled my MP-52 pre-order a while back for this guy. Just blows the MP out of the water. Still waiting on mine from Fedex of course...Great review.
All great figures, good compare. Love when you do those. I prefer the MP-52 from this review, there`s just somthing about it. Great stuff Deluxe! Hail Hasbro!
This helped a bunch thank you so much, my first ever Transformers figure is going to be Starscream, and I was tied between the Deformation and Eagle-01/MP-52 as the figures! I think I'm going to stick with the EG-01, though. I really like the Deformation Crimson, but it's unfortunately out of my price range. (Where I'm buying the Deformation is $144.99 and the EG-01 is $84.99) I was curious about the differences though, so thank you for this video! I adore the height on the Crimson and how smooth the back is, but I'm fine with sticking with the EG-01. Also, the Decepticon insignia is always a plus along with the extra accessories lol. Might get a Deformation Thundercracker though when I get the money! Sad that MP doesn't have a waist swivel 😔
for me ds crimson just wins its great in both modes the price isn't ridiculous the paint gives it a nice cartoony look its actually in scale with mp megs (all we gotta do is have a soundwave thats the accurate height now) the jet mode looks fantastic and i like how they gave it some realistic detail and the back is just amazing and it has superior articulation (especially with the hands hastak needs to figure out how thumbs work) for me it was a no brainer to get crimson wing (that and i'm not paying nearly $400 when i can pay half that and get what i think looks better) and i also like how it has a more unique transformation of the upper body coming over and down into the legs rather then the legs going up towards the body
If you ever have time look up acoustic soundwave. He is taller than the masterpiece and looks like he literally walked right off the screen. By far my favorite soundwave
I have to say, it feels like a FT figure just based on how sturdy and hefty it is and the tight joints and ratchets. Paint isn't on their level, but it doesn't have that plastic, shiny, cheap look that MP-29 Laserwave had. The matte finish isn't all that bad.
For me, MP wins easily - DS has a huge chin, and the curves and angles on Takara are just perfect. It's the Starscream I always wanted on my shelf. But if taller and cheaper are important, hey, options are good to have. I do like the lighter gray a bit more on the DS, but it's negligible.
I went with DS. The pros outweigh the cons for me. Stability in the legs and feet to ensure proper standing without fear of a pricey figure leaning forward and potentially shelf diving. Diecast hardware and tight ratchets and joints. A paint scheme closer to what I see of him in the animation and as a whole with Transformers media depictions of Starscream. Proper scaling not beholden to the Sunbow chart that doesn't mesh well in reality compared to their animation models. The cleanest back and barely any visible seam lines (apparent in the MP-52 mold on the legs, shins and feet). Adjustable wings and a waist swivel. And of course, being half the cost of the official ($140-$145). I only wish it came with more accessories in the way of alternate faces and maybe blast effects. Don't care much for episode specific items that end up in a parts bin or light up gimmicks and sounds. Looking forward to Thundercracker coming in soon and Skywarp soon after that! LOL'd at the Eminem's "Lose Yourself" lyrics at the end there for MP-52. If nothing else, comparison to that and Michael Jackson's "Smooth Criminal" never get tiring XD. I don't want to slander MP-52 though, I actually really like that mold and it's great looking. It just needed to be 10% bigger, a couple shades lighter in the gray, and better ankles and knees. I'm quite interested to see if the joints on that hold up over time, because right now my MP-36 is becoming more questionable by the day every time I mess with it, and doesn't instill confidence in the official's products for the future.
I own both and Crimson Wings is my personal choice. His height scales perfectly with my MP-36 Megatron and TE-01 Optimus Prime. MP-52 is way too short and I feel the color is too dark as well. I still have no idea what Takara was thinking making MP-52 so darn short.
@@iamtheomnimonkey Well when you watch the actual episodes Starscream's head hits about the bottom chin of Megatron. MP 52's top of the head meets the middle of MP-36's chest.
If it had been painted a lighter gray and if Takara QC weren't such a prevalent issue, the MP-52 would've run away with the crown of best MP Starscream, IMO.
Despite the a lot of bad feedback for MP-52 i would still go for him until ive found out the fake cockpit. It turned me off completely. I think i’m going with DS now solely because of that fake cockpit of MP52
Serious question: Does the Deformation Space DS-01 come in alt/plane mode or bot mode out of the box? I'm really more of an action figures person when it comes to my transformers and don't care to transform them to and from. I like posing them more and really don't have time to transform them.
Knees weak, arms are heavy, there's vomit on his sweater already, mom's spaghetti. 😂😂😂😂😂 yup deluxe, i love mine too, I'm embracing that transformation and tryin to stay positive cuz the bot mode is so perfect.
Have to disagree with the point about the scale of the figures. If you look at the scale charts from the G1 cartoon, or shots from the cartoon of the two characters next to each other, Starscream is supposed to be a LOT shorter than Megatron. A good head shorter, his face should be at about the same level as Megatron's chest. The DS-01 is too tall, MP-52 nailed the scale here.
And I'll disagree with your statement. Just matters which episode you want to go with. In the 86 movie he's not that much shorter than megs. But whichever one you like then you win. 😀 thank you for watching this
Yeah, there's always room for interpretation when it comes to G1 scale, lol. I personally feel there are MORE examples where the MP-52 scale is shown as being accurate, but it's certainly not worth arguing about given how subjective so much of this stuff is. Good video in any case!
@@Highlander77 Not sure if I can agree on that. I'm binging episodes the past month or so and most of the scenes depict Starscream not only with the color scheme of DS-01, but the scale as well. As it stands, it's fine on its own and with other seekers/smaller bots like the insecticons and Reflector, but too small for Megatron, Soundwave and the Triple Changers.
Regardless of size or how good deformation space mode looks I do not like the transformation. there is no reason to over engineer a simple (relatively speaking) transformation. so the MP is my choice. both are awesome though.
