I loved the image switch from hippie street performer kid wih the jeans and slacker look, to the slick rock star with the leisure suit and ascot. Both were cool and shows how so much of music is image in the publics eye.
I understand where your coming from, a lot of musicians are incredible and as they "progress" and change styles they become something COMPLETELY different and sound horrible. Beck still maintains a good sense of creating music even if its different every time. Hes still a musical phenom!
Miss the old Beck? Have you listened to his last 4 albums as opposed to just hearing them? Absolutely brilliant. He keeps on growing and changing instead of getting stale and making the same type of music over and over. He can try and succeed in any style he wants. I'll be a fan as long as the old Beck never comes back for two albums in a row. His next album should be completely acoustic.
@@SpikeShooter92 Yeah, I liked Morning Phase as a Sunday morning or late night album but have not like his last two at all. Some good songs here and there but disappointing as records. 13 years later it’s me saying “miss the old Beck”. Have liked the two songs he did w Gorillaz though.
the dood's one of a few that has figured it out, how to really express yo seff honestly by saying fuck it ,this is who I am & what ya see is what ya gets... fool has style to boot and ya gotta respect that TUDE for jus bein real...
With him though it's sort of an impossibility... nothing he does is ever really "expected"... hell, the only "bland" Beck album (this is my opinion so calm down, lol) is Modern Guilt. I have his entire catalog (including a lot of unreleased stuff) and that album, as a whole, seemed like his most uninspired work, Most of the songs sound very similar in feeling. I heard that he was possibly working on 2 albums at the moment... so I'm really happy about that.
I'm not forgetting Mutations or sea Change or One Foot In The Grave or Stereopathetic Soul Manure. Mostly acoustic albums. Bob Dylan has made countless acoustic albums and none of them sound exactly the same. Beck is such a talented and competent songwriter that he can pull anything off. Anyway, just because you are playing an acoustic guitar does not mean every song will sound the same.
Beck is awesome but the guitar riff here is the same as used on the Liverpool Five's 1966 record " I can only give you everything". Check it out on You Tube
no idea how anyone even back in the 90s could shit on this guy. experimentalism with electronics is good, especially when clearly he's got a firm understanding of music unlike the shit we have today which is nothing but droning sounds played by a bunch of rich kids trying too hard to be weird and 'the future of music'. ahem, animal collective, ahem.
i'm so tired of hearing "i miss the old beck." it's called progression. would everyone still think he is a genius if he churned and spewed out the same thing over and over? aren't we subjected to enough of that already?
Everything from this session was so rad. His early footage is such a blast.
Beck is so amazing & talented.
Joey Waronker is the most underrated drummer ever.
I like how he runs to get the guitar, and jumps toward the microphone just as he's about to play it, but then doesn't use it.
One of the best i ever heard from 90s!
Beck...what an entertainer!
comin to town with the briefcase blues....i love that lyric
Bass play on that gig...sick!!

13 years later and the last few albums he put out have been too pop and crowd pleasing. Hell that’s been the deal since Modern Guilt

Those were the days.
I love his guitar, there. I think it's a Schecter.
Schecters are great
Yes definitely a Schecter! One of his song writing heroes Pete Townshend used Schecter in the 1980s..
Fantstic drums

@chirpkook Sampling can also mean replaying, it just means repeating really.
Give the drummer some. Joey Waronker is the real MVP.

Now youtube is putting commercials on live videos!

Wow, Beck looked a little like Jim Parsons when he was younger.

where did that harmonica come from?
if he did that he would be The Offspring
is this the thing they did on pbs where ben folds five played first?
Good song based on a Them riff
how much do you weigh?
Maybe Kavanaugh was thinking of this song.
paul auster?
I really dig Beck, but I cant stop thinking what might Beavis & Butthead might say if they saw this...Any thoughts on this???
Odelay..
did beck bite that guy?
120 pounds
it looks like some kind of Eastwood guitar...but i'm not really sure.
He looks nothing like MIchael Cera. He looks like Kenneth from 30 rock. At least in this video.
is this peak beck?
He's pretty fly for a white guy. 😄
really?

Old beck is dope.. new beck pretty lame
Thats no shit!!
I was going to say girls in our generation are fat but
you've ruined everything.
Unless... are you like 4foot 2in tall?
This is the whitest thing I've ever seen.
Yeah, pretty lame.
