- There's a new station being built right now on the Great Eastern mainline out of Liverpool Street. Just north of Chelmsford is where Beaulieu Park is going to be - all part of a massive redevlopment of the whole area. I went along to have a look at it in an advanced stage of construction.
[ I suspect this will be station number 2,588 on the network when it opens - a station count update is included in the video ]

What do YOU call the National Rail ( British Rail ) symbol …
Double Arrows? Crows Feet? Bars and Arrows? Something else?
Double arrow, I think you're right, geoff

Always double arrow's to see in my mind two trains passing
I was told when I was a boy in the 1960s it was called the British Rail Flash. Not sure how widespread that was though.
BR arrows, BR Logo, ive also heard crows feet used before aswell
Proper canopies. Finally someone within Network Rail has realised it rains quite a bit in the UK 😅

When the British Rail corporate logo was unveiled in 1965 it quickly became known as the 'Arrows of Indecision' as back then many of the UK's railway routes were under the Beeching Axe cuts. Great video as always Geoff. 🙂
I have been putting together a HUGE spreadsheet with all the new stations coming up in the next few years, and have been tracking the progress of this station for quite some time now. Great video as always Geoff, you must be delighted to have the opportunity to visit all these construction sites.
Is this spreadsheet publicly available?
@@lordgemini2376not yet probably, Riku would of told us if it was public.
Can't wait for my train to Carnalea Bridge calling at Millcastle, Westercoast, Faymere, Edgemead and Aslockby.
Great to see something from my neck of the woods and nice to see something that I see every few weeks form an inside perspective!
This would make such a good standard dessign for future stations on busy twin track lines. That bi directional middle platfrom is so preferable for trains stopping there, removing all conflicting moves!
Cool to see it coming along nicely. Looking forward to your Cambridge South video.
Thanks Geoff, great video, i have been waiting for this train for over 45 years, i look forward to seeing you when it opens in 2025. Keep up the good work
Great to see Winslow get a mention at the end, I look forward to when you get the chance to visit it under construction, or when it opens. Be sure to visit Bletchley High Level as well when you visit East West!

Great to see investment like this in the rail industry. Excellent video. Many thanks, Geoff.
I’m so happy for this station upgrade as I’m wizzing off to westwyvern soon 😅
It's great that more and more stations are opening. What they actually look like is another matter... Functional, that's the word....
I wonder how many will end up at this station looking for a motor museum!!
Well they got motors... On an aventra that is
Least used stations at the Beaulieu Motor Museum when?
Henry Ford's former UK Mansion, the old Ford test track and tractor school are just across a new bridge or two, now largely an Essex Police play thing, not forgetting Henry VIII old crib (Beaulieu Palace) is immediately behind the station, now a Catholic school. Marconi's old mansion / former GEC college is also a min down the line. There's also a complete set of German car dealerships across the road.

What a great insight into the new station, thank you
Great video, and it's good to see a local station to me. Been watching this large site grow and evolve. It's rare to watch such a station being built, as so many are simply a small station building with a car park. This is much more.
Another superbly informative video, Geoff, thank you. I can't wait to see your new one for Cambridge South, I have had to go to Papworth Hospital a few times recently and the new build next door looks absolutely amazing. Keep up the excellent work, you lucky man! Eric.
Really cool to see new stations that are 12 coaches long. Must have been a while since a 12-car station was built from scratch
Cambridge North is the most recent one I can think of.
Last one was Brent Cross West I believe which opened last year
As others have pointed out, it happens fairly often.
The 12 car class 745s won't be stopping there, although they're actually 10 metres shorter than a 2x5 car class 720 which will the station is built for. Two 720s are actually the same length as a 12 car class 700.

Great video, very interesting especially as I drive over that new bridge to and from work every day.
Going through this line every week, it's interesting to see what's happening with this new station!
Thanks for this vid, Geoff. Yes, nice to see some architectural details just for this station (timber roof section) as we saw at Brent Cross West a while back. Quite amazing it is the first next GEML station for a century.
Nice to see a decent looking station for a change! Love the wooden roof. Reminds me of Abbey Wood and Manchester Oxford Rd.
Another great video Geoff, I use the great eastern railway railway 😊and I’ve been looking at Beaulieu Park station as they’ve been building it/
Station looks like it will be a impressive one and also love how they added a bi-directional station in to allow stopping services to be put on a different line to allow express trains to pass, great video Geoff
The new road was finished some time ago that goes around the station which makes life much easier. Station well needed as new housing estate is huge. I'm local so be nice to see and use it when it's done. Drive past every day and it's progressing rapidly.
Yes same, can’t wait to see it all finished and apparently a large commercial centre going next door too?
@@robr9170 apparently so. But no time frame on much yet. Although it seems to be going much quicker than expected.
hopefully it will mean the commuters will head up here rather than into the city centre and make Chelmsford less busy
Hey Geoff. When you do Cambridge South, I have a number of 'before' photos. Keep up the very interesting videos.
Geoff, It’s Hatfield Peverel. Thanks for your explanations using mapping though.
My bad! damn typo sneaking in again -- thank you!
Especially glad to see the water permeable brick 'cobbles' outside the station. If every paved footway and hard standing had this feature, there's be a LOT less flooding and a LOT less water shortages every time the sun comes in the summertime
My company (resonate based in Derby) will be doing the signalling update as you say. Our IECC Scalable product will be updated with the new screens (that are basically all done now) along side our Traffic management software (Luminate, which i work on) which will also be updated in line. So users can make changes to trains to loop them or run them fast, and those changes will be automatically reflected in the timetable and passed to ARS to automatically be implemented. Exciting stuff!

This was a fantastic opportunity Geoff, great to see :)
Great stuff, Geoff - my parentals live in Suffolk these days so I have sped through the station a number of times - looks like it’s going to be an impressive one!
Great to see new stations. Some new lines reopening would be well received too. Beaulieu Park looks impressive, I hope it will be well staffed and with a proper Ticket Office. British Rail - Double Arrows or simply BR sign.
Excellent video as always Geoff, always love new stations coming to UK Rail Network, this definitely looks like a station to visit, can't wait for it to open 😁
I drive past this every week so it is great to see what's going on inside
I think it's good to see new stations which have buildings being built, as many recent stations are just platforms and a car park.
The Beaulieu Park development was begun in 2005, it was intended at that time that a station would be built to serve the hundreds of homes planned.
The Roblox game SCR was released in 2017.
Hopefully not too much damage will be done to the new station by halfwitted youths looking for souvenirs.
Great video as ever Geoff. I was raised not dar from where the new station is and it has been spoken about for over 40 years. Initially it was going to be about half a mile west of its current location and be known as 'Springfield Halt'. However it just never happened and with the Beaulieu Park housing development coming to fruition, they have reverted to plan B.
Looks a lot better than the typical flatpack station that GWR has been putting everywhere.
GWR do nothing. SCR built this! Stop copying TFL or whoever operates this 🗑️ copy. Its a joke do not worry
The name of this station just so happens to be one from a popular online game, called Stepford County Railway...I literally thought of that Beaulieu Park, and it seems that other people in the comment are on the same wavelength as I am :))

Or that the Urbos 3 trams have batteries to power to Edgbaston Village and Wolverhampton Station.
Or that Wolverhampton St George’s is currently closed until November 2024?

Having seen this station being built from day 1 from the A12, I can’t wait to finally see the station open in 2025 and will be keeping an eye on the opening day
Jago Hazzard made a video about the history of the British Rail symbol, starting with the lion on wheel, to the present 1965 logo and confirms its a double arrow, representing two trains in opposite directions.
Can't wait for Cambridge Street Parkway!!!!😅
The Cambridge South station might be even bigger than this one, being four platforms on two wide islands. That would make for a good visit sometime
Cambridge street parkway is better
@@nswtrains3153 As a name, or is there a separate station proposal? I highly doubt there's a better placement than where Cambridge South is being built. As for the name, it matches up well with Cambridge North and is easily understood.

Geoff you forgot about I think it’s called Butetown on the Cardiff bay line it looks close to opening and I think it will open next year
The three track solution is an ideal answer to putting stations on busy main lines. I feel that in Scotland we are going to regret dropping 2 platform stations on the ECML at Reston and East Linton at some point in the future. The three track solution could even speed up existing services, as it allows a stopping train to get out the way and fast trains to pass.
Modern signalling systems are, as you say, updated simply with a software update to tell the SSI systems what new equipment has been attached, and the layout will also change on the signallers VDU with an update. It makes these projects so much cheaper to implement. On older electronic interlocking systems (such as GEC Geographical, probably the most widespread), so much rewiring would be required as to make the project unrealistic. Geographical interlocking were not designed with adding new routes in mind. Even removing a route can be tricky. Then at the signallers panel, all new sections would be required, the panel dismantled and all the new buttons and associated wiring, relays and layout installed. I witnessed this first hand when the new Down Connecting Line was installed at Newton, Glasgow a few years back and had to be physically shown on Panel 1 at the old Motherwell Signalling Centre. Luckily the signalling on the ground was relatively modern (in railway terms) and required less fettling.
I can’t wait to see stepford Victoria soon
I know this is irrelevant but Camberwell Station and most of Camberwell Station Road is slowly starting to resemble the plans set in Summer 2023, though they where supposed to finish Summer 2024 not start. I do hope you find the to visit the road once the works are complete.
My biggest gripe about this is so much land has been destroyed building this and the huge car park, and railways are supposed to be an environmentally friendly form of transport. Also that huge roof space and no sign of any solar panels.
Thanks for covering this project, at the *real* Beaulieu Park, not some fictional one some of your commenters seem to have read about.
Minor correction, though: Hatfield Peverel.
'fictional one some of your commenters see to have read about'

Those bricks are really special, especially considering how much it rains.
That is scary, I never realised that on the Great Eastern railway to think I went on the mainline for the first time back in the summer from London to Southend Victoria.
So strange, I used to live near there and they only started the new development right after I moved away. Would've been useful back then!
Looking forward to Liverpool Street redevelopment plus the bridge there at Chelmsford is the largest curved double bridge in the uk.
The list of new stations is incorrect if you include Belfast Grand Central, the rail portion of which is (finally) opening on October 13th.
great update! thanks!
You are at LST! Which has overtaken WAT to become the new busiest station in the UK.
Nice. Thanks Geoff
Can never unsee the crows feet now
I'm glad that you included this reference to s.106 ~ the payback tax levied on developers who are obliged to pay for side projects of benefit to the local area (or they're not allowed to put the first shovel in the ground) ~ as I was thinking that the neighbouring new estate must be absolutely enormous to justify the cost of this.
I'd love to know what percentage comes from this "bribe" and consequently what the rest of the government and local government contributions constitute.
are there no Solar Panels planned for the roof? A lost opportunity if not
I can see some confusion arising with people wanting Beaulieu Road. Not that very many people do
I suppose this is an extension of Chelmsford.
Well, that's one benefit of an expanding population - more stations and more trains.!
But I'm not sure that any feasible study has ever been made of how much capacity the London terminals will be able to handle in the future.
Once you get out of the South East, population and passengers dramatically reduce (except in the Metropoitan Counties).
It's a totally different world that can't be experienced by any non-stop intercity train, nor motorway service station!!!
Steve did all the stations - it's certainly a great achievement.
Better still to see what goes on in the world around each station - but that's something that would take a life-time !!!
There is a plan to upgrade Liverpool St to ease passenger flow. I'm sure there's plenty of information on it but it's a long term project so I'm guessing a decade absolute minimum before it's finished.
When the French and the English come together to cooperate, it is usually about creative spelling to make it difficult for tourists to explain to taxi drivers where they want to go.
I wonder why they didn't put in 2 passing loops one for up one for down. Looks like there's space for it?
I recently went past the sites for Darlaston & Willinhall stations on the Birmingham to Shrewsbury train. Both stations have not seen much progress this year despite an agreement with new contractor to continue the work back in April. I can’t see them opening in 2025 probably early 2026.
The other interesting thing about the station is that it saw the previously straight double tracks realigned into the new station alignment here. Trains to London are currently on a temporary speed restriction through the station but towards Colchester, trains are free to run at line speed.
The size of the station is needed, Chelmsford station was previously the busiest non-terminus station outside of London. Beaulieu Park should also take a lot of passengers who originate from outside the city and currently bus/drive to Chelmsford station, alleviating pressure here.
Almost choked on my tea, Beaulieu getting a new station?!!...oh, hold on, not 'that' Beaulieu...as you were.
ps. The arrows of indecision or double arrows.
Are you planning on going to Belfast for Grand Central?
The thing is that it’s not the Beulieu Park in Brentwood if you happen to try and search it up because it doesn’t exist just yet, it’s a brand new housing estate and it’ll mainly serve the village of Boreham in Essex
Cambridge South has a superb curved wood roof which I think needs twinning with Manchester Oxford Road. Another big station with 4 x (I assume) 12 car platforms.
Will the Beaulieu Park station have any effect on the service pattern on the Great Eastern Mainline?
Cambridge South is going to be excellent!
I’d much rather they’d given us back our station in Maldon, but there we are.
Far more expensive unfortunately. It will be interesting to see the effect the new station has on the number of people commuting from Hatfield Pev
The station looks very very good. However, they have made a absolute mess of the A12 Boreham interchange next door to this station. The bridge over the railway is only a single carriage road and is already at capacity. And they've barely started building houses yet on the new part of Beaulieu.
Great to see bantech designing real rail projects. Morganstown next?
we got a stepford county railway (scr) station irl under construction before gta6 💀
Great video. Thought Okehampton Interchange was going to open in 2025, but looks like it's going to be Feb 2026 now
This is exactly what the Railways should be building. Instead of wasting so many billions on a duplicate line like HS2, here is a project which will improve the lot of commuters in the area. Now they can avoid the congestion in Chelmsford when they get the train to London.
Groan. Another person who gives their two pence on HS2 without knowing its purpose. Uneducated commentators like yourself are the reason why the project was butchered in the way that it has been. Please learn about how HS2 will revolutionise freight and stopping services before you spread the dangerous narrative that it's a waste of money and simply a 'duplicate line'. If you don't understand how freight and stopping services will be improved, you don't understand HS2.
The purpose of duplicate lines is to also ease congestion for limited stop trains. New HSL always were like this.
I am so jealous of all these new stations being opened around the country. I'm waiting for Cardiff Parkway to become a thing but the Welsh Government have recalled an approved planning application for review and are dragging their feet over it. They cancelled new road building as they want people to use public transport then they delay or maybe worse cancel the building of this much needed station on the east side of Cardiff that is next to the main South Wales to London mainline but has never had a station.
Thank you
Looking good - can't help thinking Spanish Solution would've been a more useful layout \m/
