- In this video, I decorate my home for the fall season. In the past, I've been hesitant to really do any seasonal decor and recently I've changed my mind about it and it's been REALLY fun! As someone who helps people declutter items for a living and talk about intentional living in homes, I've struggled with the idea of having all of these "non-functional" items around but I've definitely warmed up to it and am really enjoying my new space!

I regularly watch this channel, but admittedly don’t often comment on the videos - but I thoroughly loved watching this video. I can hear in the narration how happy you are, and also how beautiful your house is.
I really appreciated the sentiment that non-functional things still serve a purpose if it makes the person happy.

I agree with you. Being a minimalist is ok as long as it suits the individual. I think it is more important to have a clean and sanitized home than how little/much people have. I think living at peace/love/happiness in your home is what is important.
Decor isn’t clutter-it serves the purpose of making your home more beautiful and appealing to you. It makes the space personal, instead of generic.

I use painter's tape for the back of the mirror to mark the holes and then use the tape on the wall to hang the hook

Thank you for touching on a much needed topic!! I think that the decluttering, and minimal space overlooks the need and value of beauty in our lives. Yes, my vintage china may not be usable but by golly is it beautiful to look at and bring me tremendous joy! I also think once we've lost people we love, we re evaluate everything in our life and all we want is to live more full lives. The simple joys of life (i.e. making our spaces feel cozy, and look beautiful) really do serve a purpose! I think your home looks absolute stunning! And I hope it brings you tremendous joy and that you're able to create loving memories there with your family! LOVE your videos!

Plants add softness and freshness to a place.
I am a fan of seasonal decoration when it is like this: subtle and integrated with the rest of the house. Also I may be having some not so great ideas around going to my local Tarjay and hitting up the dollar area. Usually I don't like anything in there but I like those wooden containers.
Seasonal decor has a purpose it brings me happiness. And as long as I have space to store the items I’m gonna get them!!!
I decorate for every holiday and season and have done it for 38 years. It brings me joy! I really don’t have other decor so I enjoy the different looks.

Love your content, this just came up on my TH-cam feed. Don't feel guilty about decorating at all, several of the items you picked can be used for different seasons or holidays. The ones that can't make them even more special when you unpack them and use them for that occasion. I organize my decorations by season and then have another section of bins that are neutral that can go with different seasons organized by color (or you can do material, feeling, texture, whatever works for you for the neutral decorations).
Another thing that really helps is purchasing pillows with removable covers, that way the covers can be washed easily and if the pillows are the same size for several of your decorative seasons you only have to store the pillow covers and you can get rid / donate the pillows, which saves a lot of space when storing. We have a small Victorian 1882 home so changing our pillows on the couch makes a huge transformation for the entire living room. If you know someone who sews or if you sew yourself you can also alter or make your own pillow covers that all work on the same size pillows. We change out our pillow covers (2 pillows) 6 times a year.
Think of decorating as a form of color therapy, rotation is a good thing and bright cheering colors really help in fall and winter.
1 last tip a month or so before you are going to decorate go through all of your stored and previously purchased decorations and decide what you still love and what you want to donate. Thrift stores and antique stores can sell these items the best during the season people are looking for them, not after. So if you are decorating for Christmas go through all your stuff right after Halloween and get the stuff to the thrift store soon after so someone else can use it that year to decorate.
I give you a huge shoutout for reminding us all how to gently and lovingly refresh and style our spaces! Obviously Clover approves of all the new soft furnishings (good boy!) and it all looks cosy and snug! Good job!!!

Idea: What about doing a faux aged copper look on the mirror frame, so that it’s mostly a green patina as that would echo the plant wall!

Some seasons/holidays I get in a decorating mood which results in all the decor and sometimes I don't. My motto is do whatever feels right to you.

I love the sofa and coffee bar. I don’t decorate seasonally except for Christmas (just too much for me to manage at this life stage). Our son heard about “Christmas in July” and has been pushing to get out the stockings and tree ever since.

First your curls are popping! So cayute! Second- we are allowed to change evolve or just want to make minor adjustments.. Fall is really the season of coziness and warmth. I don’t think anything g that makes you feel great in your space is clutter. You seem so happy doing this and that to me says it’s perfectly right for you! I have a KCC and she does the exact same thing any time we put a blanket anywhere she can get to (or pull down!) She'd rather have pillows and blankets than any toys. It's so funny to watch her make everything "just right."

I love how you decorated. Simple touches like flowers, little pumpkins and kitchen towels make the space so cozy. My dogs do the same to the couch blankets. What can you do? They rule the house. 🤷🏼♀️
Fall is my favorite time of year. 🍁 I over decorated for many years and I am slowly scaling back. I plan to donate/give away what I don’t use anymore. I do have a labeled bin for each holiday, so I’m not totally out of control, but I know I can definitely do without much of my inventory.

I got a kick out of this unapologetic video, Kay. Fun to follow your process. A few things came to mind: This felt like nesting to me...an instinct, and never more so than when fall approaches and we start spending more time indoors...you are simply feathering yours. (A big deal by the sound of it if this was a first for you...and you put it all out here on YT. Way to go.) Also, you have so much white space, and I don't mean the paint, that the overall effect and end results aren't jarring but pleasing to the eye -- palate, nose, and skin too. Sensory pleasures. Lastly because I've forgotten the others, I think that unless it's one's style choice, people often simply add more and more, layering on top of or jamming things in without removing existing items to make room, even if just for a season-long display. To my eye, that means nothing takes prominence and it's just too much, IMHO. Ultimately, perhaps the difference is if (the universal) you find yourself apologizing for your seasonal look or having to point out special items/treatments then perhaps it's too much; if not, then it's your style. What I enjoyed most here: Your unbridled enthusiasm throughout as you integrated something new into your inherent aesthetic. Enjoy that coffee station too...we all benefit from having rituals, including Clover. (The previous were unsolicited opinions and personal preference. 😉) Love the crickets, by the way, another sure sign of autumn approaching here in NE.

As to the coffee bar area, I think every home should have one! I actually have two: a coffee bar for my husband, a tea station for me! My best investment was a $30 milk steamer/frother that I have used every day for the past 6 months!
