Why not encourage both? People have different gifts my dad was a carpenter and im not handy at all i’d be a terrible carpenter
Everyone needs carpenters, electricians, and mechanics. College is great if you wanna go into a field that requires a degree for professional certification like doctor or engineer. But it’s a much lower risk to send kids to trade school which is a much more reliable return on investment

NPR had a great story that involved Charles Barkley and a friendship he had with the story writer's father. It was an awesome story that ended with a recording of Charles talking to the woman. You can tell that Charles is sincerely a good person. He was talking to her about his friendship with her now deceased father. Charles sort of randomly became friends with this man that was a huge fan of his. Charles said some wonderful things to her about her father and great advice to the her. It was a really good piece on NPR that I suggest you look into. Charles is hilarious and a good person.
