- Today we have the popular new(ish) D-28 Street Legend from Martin Guitars. It's a great satin finish take on the classic D-28, but how do you think it will compare to the D-28 Standard!? Watch as we break it down and thanks for watching!

I'm not in the market for a D28 but I just love the videos yall make :)
Me too, ordered a Custom Martin, 5 months into the year wait, but I watch these vids for fun. And for the love of Martin!! And acoustic guitars in general.
Bought the D28 over the D18 when they came out. Fantastic guitar. The aging makes you approach the playing differently, in a positive way. Great to Martin are always trying new things.
Quintin is the man............what a picker! Love these guitars.
Wow love that Martin tone
i have this one in my herd, great guitar, Martin makes something for everybody
I have a 35 year old Alvarez Yairi DY-77 that is essentially a D-28 clone. I have been playing that guitar regularly for 35 years, I'm a strummer/singer, and the top still looks great. It does have a pick guard, but it doesn't have any exposed wood that has been worn through the finish. I don't know how aggressively you have to play to get a guitar to wear like that. You have to have a very heavy hand to be striking the wood enough to create that kind of wear.
Another excellent demo. Ok, I could almost understand the altered finish if it was applied by an artist with a piece of sand paper. This is printed. Who knows how that is going to age. I just don’t get it. I appreciate the “torn jeans” comments.
Both are great
Paul: "It's just a regular spruce top, and it just goes through this special printer".
Quentin: "I hear woody and dry"
Seems like a nice guitar, just not my style aesthetically. I do wonder what kinds of folks these appeal to. I have no issue with printed finishes, and in fact, quite liked what Martin did with the D-19. But printed wear is a bit of an odd duck imho.
I’m a more of a Gibson guy but I kinda like that first Hank looking one.
I love Gibson too, but that D28 is just pure magic.
Wow.. street legend like that sound.❤
Anyone else notice the Taylor “non-round shouldered” dreadnought hanging in the background?
I think I like the standard a little better. Both are great though.
I think I prefer the sound of the “ripped jeans” version….but I prefer the look of the standard.
You mean ‘pre ripped jeans’
These are great guitars. I knocked them too originally, I'm about to buy the 28 because I like the 18 I got so much. Don't judge a book by its cover. Martin has done some gimmicky stuff just to add to the lines over the last few decades but this isn't one of them. These guitars are great. If you don't like the "wear" then they have them in plain satin and also a tasty amber burst also. These guitars are getting crap they don't deserve. They are great guitars.
I’d play both. And then pick the best sound possible. I’m thinking the Satin version would work
The street legend sounds a bit deeper and may match my voice better. I do notmind theimitationaging on thisone. . I will stick with my Music Villa Custom Shop HD-28 VTS 12-fret for now. Thanks, Quinton, Paul, and all.
The forwarded-shifted bracing on the Street Legend gives the soundboard a much more open sound. The D-28 Standard sounds like a D-28 Standard. I am partial to forward-shifted X-bracing on Martin dreadnoughts. I would choose an HD-28 or a Custom Shop if I could afford a Martin dreadnought today. These instruments bring their own unique sound to the table.
I think the Legend will cut better in ensemble. But the pre-worn graphics strikes me as very bogus.
Think you have to earn that wear.. Like buying pre-ripped jeans.. Just isn’t right
Realistically, that "wear" would be a result of bad technique.
I agree… doesn’t feel right. You could get the same tone by just buying the D-28 satin though. 🤷♂️
@@guitaristforfunn "bad techniquue" haha....when you can play great you make the rules not follow them. If only Jimi could here you....haha
Since I'm technically getting "less guitar," (satin finish, wear marks) would be nice if it had a used, worn in price as well...
There's no "marks" it's perfectly flat. And you're not getting LESS guitar I don't think. I'm about to buy the 28 because I like the 18 so much. Go find one and actually play it.
@@unclesham5507 fake wear marks...I like to put the real one's in the guitar.
Imagine going to a gig where you see three guitar players playing the same guitars with the exact same wear on them. Maybe it’s just me, but I think it’s a bit weird. 🧐
Martin claims that top isn’t a famous player, just a nice old 28 in their collection, but it’s totally going for vibe of the Hank Williams D-28 owned by Neil Young and there has never been a Neil Young signature model. At one point his tech said they might do one using this stuff that is painted onto model trains that immediately rusts that can be clear coated over as a nod to “Rust Never Sleeps” but it never happened.
I'm not going to weigh in on the relic debate, but I think it's nuts to spend three grand to buy a relic'd acoustic, only to have someone else come along and have a guitar that looks EXACTLY like yours. Different strokes.......
in the comparison.. the street legend sounds a bit deeper.
It is Hank.
I wouldn’t mind a photo finish sunburst
Obviously Quentin likes the Street Legend a lot.
Huh didn’t know it was printed. Kinda weird. I’m not against relics but I’m not sure about a printed top. I’m going to personally check one out. I kinda like the look and the sound. Does that mean the wood grain is printed too?🤔 Hope not.
quinton is actually built, wth
The satin sounds a little dryer and slightly louder
I just have to wonder what these will look like in 40 yrs.
Totally thinking the same thing. Will printed "wear" do something weird in 20 years. Flake off. Lol
At first where your arm rubs the guitar it'll shine up the satin. If played regular, some years down the road. Those same places will be just wood and no finish. Because the actual finish is very thin to begin with..
Strange, am OK with aging on electric guitars. Acoustics? Not my cup of tea.
I don’t see why they would be any different. Electric or acoustic
Street legend looks like Lester Flatts
now I love tom murphy aged guitars, but somehow they made a martin 28 sound like a toy :(
😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢 stop the madness with this relic BS 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
Ow please, also on acoustic guitars, is this specially for the posers, I own a fingerpicking guitar without pickguard and played it for about ten years every day and it doesn't look like this.
Of coarse not. If your a finger Picker the top should be getting touched. Unless your adding a percussion sound.
If you didn’t earn it you’re nothing but a poser
