applies to all design i'd say. talking about design is like the most boring thing in the world to people that have no strong feelings about it. there is something so whiny about it idk. maybe because it sounds pretentious, abstract or made up
People do care they just don’t vocalize or think about it consciously but good design sells. From albums, to menus, to title screens, the character designs, it’s all valued even if they don’t think they do.
the number of times I’ve been someplace fancy where the food and atmosphere are both absolutely incredible, only to open a menu and get jumpscared by fucking papyrus.
When you design simplistic but very thought through time lasting designs spending a lot of time on it. People: 😐 When someone just puts a bunch of effects and glitter and sparkles and explosions on a design. People: 😲 Woooooow
Just burst out laughing! This is exactly what happens every time my bf and I go out to eat. He even leads with asking me how I feel about it before I can even say anything. Love your content! Keep it up dude 😂🔥🔥
First thing my professor told be when we had just started the program was that once you learn about typography, layout, etc. you’ll see the world with different eyes. It’s not out fault we can’t help but see how wrong some designs look, but I at least try to keep it to myself... unless your menu has like 100+ items and you decided to insert images for ALL OF THEM and made the images into a 1 centimeter square 😭)
its the same with music too. once you learn enough you realise so many songs you hear everywhere sound incredibly amateur when they used to sound professional
I’m not a graphic designer but a marketer and I love when graphic designers nerd out or have opinions to be honest. Like yes go off about your thing!!!
I had to design menus for one of my design classes and the amount of overthinking and tiny choices I made that I knew didn't matter in the real world was... exhausting
I agree. Some menus at restaurants are terrible. The font, layout, spacing and colors. Some restaurant owners don’t ask us graphic designers for their help
They don't because they either: A) Don't have the resources, or B) Are arrogant and think they can do it all themselves, and think they can do a better job Thing is though, if you polish up your aesthetic and invest in your look, you could 1000% charge more for the food based just off the illusion of quality that good design communicates to your customers
If I someday find a boyfriend which is some kind of artist, we will probably complain about this the whole date like we're telling each other a very deep secret!!!
Bro, i thought i was just a person with a massive ego thinking i could do better all the time when i look at menus lol. Thank god im not the only one!🤣
I am NOT that obsessive about design. I just happen to... notice... when somethings out of place. And, most of time, it's their graphic designers fault. It's kind of like a superpower.
I literally just switched over to a graphic design major and I am immediately shocked at how much I resemble a stereotypical graphic designer lmfaooo because I high key be dissing so many websites and ads and packaging:)
im such a sucker for overt lack of design in restaurants (and local businesses in general) ok i love shitty design that was cleary made by someone who doesnt know anything abt design. idk what it is. love good design and thought out stuff too but sometimes that dusty menu is cozy in a way i feel is hard to replicate
This is true. I am just starting out graphic designing as a career. And I thought the same thing whenever I go to restaurants. Either myself or with other people.
Stop omg I do this because bad design makes it nearly impossible for me to read which prices are for which food lol. Good design to me is legibility. I only have three years under my belt but it needs to be immediately understandable for it to be a good menu
have you heard of the research where they found that harder to read text/design gets people to focus more and process the contents deeper as well?. maybe i saw it in an older vsauce video or something
this reminds me of the time i went to get dinner with a girl i had a huge crush on and on the walk there i was pointing at signs for nearby businesses and telling her how much i hated the fonts they used
I usually wind up explaining to my wife exactly where the menu could use improvement, particularly with regards to information hierarchy and legibility. She's not a graphic designer herself, but for some reason she finds it endearing rather than annoying when I go off on topics I'm interested in that she's not.
This is so relatable 😂 i have this one sushi delivery car driving around my home... Comic sans, sushi roll on top of the car... "Sushi for friends" like cmon... I cant 😂
Tbh i dont really care how the menu looks like as long as they serve good food. Like seriously, restaurants serve things to eat, not reading materials.
I'll add another layer to this as a designer who works in printing. "Ew is this 60lb uncoated? Why is the alignment off? Why was this printed on a home printer?? ARE THERE PERFORATION EDGES ON THIS????" My wife: stfu and choose something to eat 😂
Experience has shown that the worse the menu design is, the better the food...so by making a bad menu, it's reverse psychology for me lol😂 and for those with a different experience, I'm sorry for ya. This is my take on it👍🏽😁
As a UX designer, it’s hard to enjoy things. I see flaws in everything. I’m thinking what ifs, It could be better. What gets on my nerves are the push doors with handles to grab make me look like a fool 😂
😂😂😂😂😂😂 I’ve found my community lol…. this is me when my bf and I are out I always got something positive or negative to say about a flyer or logo of a store lol
Reminds me of when I was at an all you can eat buffet and the menu had like these shapes that were like offset by 1 pixel, my OCD went through the roof
I just started my schooling this week. I did this last month to Denny's new menu. It was a dumpster fire. Hard to follow, too much going on, and your eye couldn't focus on the words or the images. The background was soooo in your face. I got overwhelmed and ordered the cheap item I always get instead of trying something new because that menu was unreadable. It was boggling.
I’m a graphic designer and I promise I’m not like that ;-; Please go on a date with me 😂 Entertaining all series offers That are single spaced and written in anything but times new Roman :)
“You see that font? That’s futura”
I feel personally attacked
"Staatliches as a body font? Really?"
I related to this so hard
Accurate
Meanwhile every game I've ever made uses futura
As a graphic designer the process of realising nobody cares about good design was very painful
I do

They do. Probably not in an aesthetic way, but people's care is design understandable and easy to use
the number of times I’ve been someplace fancy where the food and atmosphere are both absolutely incredible, only to open a menu and get jumpscared by fucking papyrus.
LMAOOOOO 😂😂😂😂 And it's printed on paper, with prices scribbled over
Graphic designer - *Designs the perfect menu*
Nobody - *Cares about the design*
Graphic designer - They dont know i worked 69 hours designing this. 😢
I just felt this deeply on my soul and that hurts
Nobody cares about design until they are forced to deal with with a bad one. Kinda like sound mixing.
The best designs go unnoticed. Seeking praise is the artist's thing.
@@g.t.3186 I like good sound mixes

✨ Normalize bringing your design resume to dates ✨

its the same with music too. once you learn enough you realise so many songs you hear everywhere sound incredibly amateur when they used to sound professional
this is exactly why i don't wanna learn shit lmaoo vibes for life
just discovered one thing. us cooks have one thing in common with graphic designers. we are horrible to go eat with at a restaurant
I do this all the time low-key. Most people don't see the deal.
me too
I’m not a graphic designer but a marketer and I love when graphic designers nerd out or have opinions to be honest. Like yes go off about your thing!!!
I had to design menus for one of my design classes and the amount of overthinking and tiny choices I made that I knew didn't matter in the real world was... exhausting
« They clearly didn’t use a baseline grid »
Literally me in every restaurant menu hahaha
I felt so attacked with this video LMAO
i just internalise all these thoughts and don't say anything 🥲
I agree. Some menus at restaurants are terrible. The font, layout, spacing and colors. Some restaurant owners don’t ask us graphic designers for their help

I really wanted to see how a good menu looks like but the video ended🥲😂😂
Same here 😔 you know what they say, “The best things are the unseen.”
you'd swear these restaurateurs have never heard the words "count the fonts" once in their fucking lives
FR
My wife hates me for this.
They say you eat with your eyes first, so a poorly presented menu really doesn't do them any favours. Remember to bring your CV next time, Elliot.
Me at every restaurant/cafe job I’ve ever had 💀
I feel called out LMAOOO. I've made recognizing the use of Phosphate a part of my personality
If I someday find a boyfriend which is some kind of artist, we will probably complain about this the whole date like we're telling each other a very deep secret!!!
So good. Also extra credits for wearing a PANTONE shirt for this :D
Omgggg. I always look at menu designs and stuff!!!
The perfect man doesn't exi-
“Look this font...you see it right...its Apple Garamond.”
NAH IM LITERALLY LIKE THIS
I don't care if a menu is ugly as long as it's effective. Layout matters, visuals are a bonus.
Went to a restaurant with my mom I had the same thing going on
Like living with an architect and I can't get excited about a door handle...
"Like... Like I could make a better one myself at home"
I keep doing this at every restaurant I eat at now… I feel like I am convincing the people I’m with but in reality they probably think I’m insane 💀💀
yep can agree, my boyfriend judges every design he catches a sight of haha but he's just so into it its too
cute
I literally just switched over to a graphic design major and I am immediately shocked at how much I resemble a stereotypical graphic designer lmfaooo because I high key be dissing so many websites and ads and packaging:)
Same same same. I used to work at this café with a horrendous menu, their letter of choice looked like it was made for a horror movie
im such a sucker for overt lack of design in restaurants (and local businesses in general) ok i love shitty design that was cleary made by someone who doesnt know anything abt design. idk what it is. love good design and thought out stuff too but sometimes that dusty menu is cozy in a way i feel is hard to replicate
imo its kinda like naivety breeds creativity
Me when the menu is written in Comic Sans
This is probably how other people feel whenever I go out anywhere with them
Would be more realistic if we instead raved about bad design because we love that shit so much
this is the attitude to bring to a date fr
This is true. I am just starting out graphic designing as a career. And I thought the same thing whenever I go to restaurants. Either myself or with other people.

10/10 great date
The more sketchy the designs, the better the food.
this reminds me of the time i went to get dinner with a girl i had a huge crush on and on the walk there i was pointing at signs for nearby businesses and telling her how much i hated the fonts they used
This is so real
I usually wind up explaining to my wife exactly where the menu could use improvement, particularly with regards to information hierarchy and legibility. She's not a graphic designer herself, but for some reason she finds it endearing rather than annoying when I go off on topics I'm interested in that she's not.
Now I want to see that good menu 😂
the pantone shirt lmao
It is so true. I really love Burger King's new design so we go there quite often. I am always so amazed how I am not bored of it. :D
I like learning so it wouldn't be boring 😆
"They use more than three fonts on the same Page"
Atrocious font pairings will make you lose appetite 🤣🤣
This is so relatable even tho am not yet a graphic designer
😂 so relatable. Is it a bad thing that I don’t react this way anymore? 😅
He said it...🔥🔥🔥
This is so relatable 😂 i have this one sushi delivery car driving around my home... Comic sans, sushi roll on top of the car... "Sushi for friends" like cmon... I cant 😂
you remind me to peso plume in the best way possible
The same is with musicians, once you have a good ear.
bro when he goes to a kebab:
I'VE LITERALLY DONE THIS (in my head not aloud but still)
DUDE SAME I CANT LOOK AT BAD GTAPHICNDESING 😂😂😂
This is gold 💀💀
Omg, this is so true😢
Tbh i dont really care how the menu looks like as long as they serve good food. Like seriously, restaurants serve things to eat, not reading materials.

In fact i ever did this 🙃 but less dramatic ofc, just "eww hideous"
God- I that this is me. ☠️
this is meeee omgshhh 😂

This is something Ted Mosby would say 💀
I’m only a student but I do this too!
😂😂Right?😂😂
That's so me 😂
No one’s gonna mention the fake hair?
Graphic designers make the world look less shitty
Super sir
😭🤣🤣🤣🤣 Literally me oh my days
i love you please show us your project LOL
My bf has to deal with this and has had to deal with this for the past 8 years 😅
Okay but this sounds like my kind of date lol
Me in one video ahahaha 😂
Lo de dar mi CV es algo que siempre pienso 😂
once i walked into a container store and me and my friend just made fun of the boring ass sans serif font for all the big signage
Do you know 21draw is using this video on their ads? I hope so and I hope they paid
Joke's on you, I don't go on dates!! (😞)
None of us do
@@letsfindsomepeace9207 I do
10/10 me 🤣🤣🤣👌🏼
