Purple…yep. Saranghae means “I love you” in Korean. Bora is the colour “purple” in Korean. Army, even years back, used to do things to surprise BTS at concerts, and one time they covered their army bombs (light sticks) with purple paper to create a purple ocean at a concert. Tae (V) said that the colour purple had a meaning, and because it is the last colour of the rainbow, it meant “I will love you and trust you forever”, and he coined the phrase “borahae” which means, “I purple you” from saranghae/bora….the Purple Heart has become our symbol for borahae…💜💜

To add to this, Black Swan is part of a cycle of songs exploring the ideas of Self in the work of the psychologist Carl Jung. In this case Shadow, which represents our inner, usually hidden and darker self, as opposed to Persona… the ‘mask’ which we show the world (masks feature quite extensively in BTS iconography).
They did go through a difficult time around 2018 where they almost disbanded due to the pressures of fame, feeling that their love for their art was being destroyed.

I just want to add to what you said about Carl Jung by saying that the Human shadow was the focus of the Map of the Soul series, and that this song was released on Map of the Soul 7. They were doing lots of self reflection and Soul searching about their identities which I admire so much, as a very spiritual person and lover of psychology and Astrology and so on. I became an Army soon after Map of the Soul 7 was released 🥰 Sept 26 2020 is the day a TH-cam video changed my life and I fell in love with BTS and became an Army 💜♾
Thanksgiving day, 2017 was my day for the start of my BTS journey. My then 17-year-old daughter had me watch Mic Drop Steve Aoki remix. I was hooked. I still to this day watch at least 5 or 6 hours of their videos a day. Yes, I'm addicted.
There truly is a special aura about Jimin that you will come to find in watching more on him. He truly is so captivating and stunning and I’ve been able to see him live 4 times and trust me when I tell you, Jimin is even more beautiful and amazing in person. His talent is out of this world 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Just came across your reactions today and want to say something. For the last year or two so many youtube channels started to react to BTS and said all kind of positive but empty stuff, so you can tell they just make it a perfect reactions. I really don't like reactions for reactions and not because of actual interest to what you are watching. Cuz there's nothing wrong if you don't like something or you're not really into it.

Jimin is my bias and he sings like an angel. ❤ He is considered the #1 male kpop dancer in the world and he's also the shadow dancing on the wall. He studied contemporary dance and he's AMAZING at it! His stage presence is nothing like you've ever seen before. All of the members are so incredibly talented and I love them all but Jimin has a special place in my heart. 💜
Jimins ethereal beauty, his amazing voice and dance skills, his cute and caring personality, his duality…yeah it’s the Jimin-effect 😅

Permission to Dance trivia:
- It was written by Ed Sheeran and is one song that they didn't touch with more lyrics, etc. It was purely a gift for them to sing
- It incorporates sign language for the hearing impaired
- The dance was simple so everyone can join in
- It is about COVID and permission to have fun (safely)
- The purple balloons are in honor of their fans (purple is the fandom color because of V and a phrase he coined "I Purple You" which is a specific love for the fans)
- They performed this at the United Nations after giving another speech. No other musician has ever received permission to do so

Jimin had me from my first BTS experience many years ago, there is just something about him that just captures my soul. He has an aura about him that I am just drawn to. Jimin is not only my bias in BTS but he is also my "Ult Bias" in all of K-Pop. Suga is my bias wrecker, I just love his face and he has the cutest smile. They will all come for you at some point, lol. I love them all, especially when they are all together. I love watching their brotherhood.
"I PURPLE YOU" comes from the use of V (real name Kim Taehyung) The Korean phrase "bor" (borahae) is like a funny twist to the Korean phrase "사랑해" (saranghae). Here 보라 (bora) means "purple" and 사랑해 (saranghae) means I love you, so he puts two and two together to make a super charming phrase that only BTS and ARMY will understand. In fact, his love for the purple color originated even before he started using the termbor (borahae). During the 3rd Master BTS (November 13, 2016), he says: "Purple is the last in the color palette, and means that I will believe and love you for a long time." Damn it Taehyung, why do you have to go and break ARMYs hearts?

When I first heard about BTS it was Boy with Love and Jimin stood out to me immediately. But Blood Sweat and Tears made me fall in love with them. Love them all but Jimin was and is my bias.

I have a feeling it won’t be long before you react to ON (watch the Kinetic Manifesto Film version), and you will see that thematically it is like a sequel song to Black Swan. Also I loved your PTD dance break, and I can’t wait until you get to watching some of their dance practice videos (which are less ‘practice’ and more a full choreo performance in their dance studio). You get to see the full scope of their amazing dancing and brilliant choreography.

Black swan is a song about being afraid of losing our passion for the things we love, for example music or dancing, and how losing our passion will be like our first death (mentioned in the lyrics)
Jimin's run wjen he, Tae and Jungkook are onscreen is gorgeous.
This is about the Pandemic improvement but Delta hit just, as it came out.
The balloons are a sign to the end of the Pandemic. Going back to normal.

it's suga that's saying "bultaoreune" (bul-ta-o-reu-ne) which is translated to "it's burning up here" in the mv. i believe he pronounced it in his daegu dialect (daegu is a city in south korea where suga and v are both from!)

I love watching your reactions. It is not long ago I jumped to BTS rabbit hole and I relate to your feeling so much. BTS discography and content may be really overwhelming for newcomers, I will try to answer some of your questions, I am still a baby Army, but thanks to watching good BTS reactors, I learned a lot and I think there is time to pay a debth:
1. Purple color
is official color of BTS ARMY, V once use the wording I love you (Borahae in korean) and it was quickly adopted.
2. PTD song
BTS wanted to uplift people during pandemic and they gave us PTD, it was released the day of 8th anniversary of the Army as a gift (BTS does this kind of activity every year, they care some much about their fans). You correctly observed, that there is different professions, different ages and people of all skin colors in the music video. In the end of the MV they used international sign language: "enjoy," "dance" and "peace."
Shortly after releasing the MV BTS open PTD challenge and people around the world were making video using PTD choreography resulting to the
"Permission to Dance (Shorts Challenge ver.) MV" you can find on youtube. I will answer your question - where all the balloons from the video end up...

They performed PTD at the United Nation General Assembly last september, you can find the official video on YT as well the speech BTS delivered as the special envoys appointed by SK president.

3. Jimin
There is something about Jimin, indeed. Army call it Jimmin effect or when you are JimIn you can’t JimOut :)
I will recommend you to watch some of his solo songs:
- LOVE YOURSELF 承 Her 'Serendipity' Comeback Trailer
- Lie
- Filter
4. Black swan
Is the song coming from their Map of the Soul: 7 album, one message that penetrates the album as a whole is that you must face your inner shadow, but resist becoming submerged into its depths (Suga said).
Black swan's lyrics confess the fear of losing passion for music. I can recommend to watch "'Black Swan' Art Film performed by MN Dance Company" - this is instrumental version of the song.
There is many of live performances of Black swan with beautiful choreography (MMA2020, SBS, James Corden, Comeback, PTD on stage...)
Army will ask you to react to live performances, because our boys are even better live. But be carefull, these videos are often blocked. I recommend you to do ask Army to which one react and if you ask for the edit tips, I am sure that you will get right answers prior the video editing. Lot of reactors were frustrated because of copy strikes....
If you want to learn about their fight with shadows from Map of the Soul: 7 albums, I have 2 favourites songs to recommend:
- ON - it will be nice to react on Kinetic manifesto Come prima (kinetic = move) first and then to Official music video (personally I will appreciate to see it in 1 reaction, because you will get 2 very different feeling from on song. They performed this song on New Your central terminal live - be careful if you react, as these reactions are often blocked
- Shadow (solo by Suga)
5. Fire
I recommend to watch their live performances of this song and Dance practice videos. Actually they have lot of dance practices videos where you can see more choreography than on MV.

6. Meaning of the songs
Lot of songs with deeper meaning have explanation videos, I recommend to watch as lot of song have Korean culture reference which is almost impossible to understand (must to see explanations: Idol, Spring day, Blood sweat and tears)
The second reason is, that BTS has BU universe (Bangtan Universe) - a fictional universe created by BigHit that serves as a vehicle for storytelling. Beginning with “I Need U”. I am sure, that Army will navigate you, I you will be interested to go through it

There's a fantastic fan made series called Rise of Bangtan which is excellent and I HIGHLY rec it. It gives you their history & K-pop history from pre-debut onwards and how their journey was so different from the other K-pop groups. Now at Ch 18 & also has bonus content videos & deleted scenes. I've been watching your videos for the whole afternoon and I've been giggling and really vibing with your emotions, be they flustered, emotional, overwhelmed, hype. I was most happy when you were so enthusiastic about getting their names right and recognizing them and that shows me that you're really being naturally drawn to them.
Also, you asking questions about the messages of their songs and some of the Korean words shows the pull that BTS has. They manage to make you curious, you feel the pull, you want to know more beyond that language barrier and I want to say thank you for sharing your genuine reactions and journey of discovering BTS.
Black Swan is about creativity and the possibility of losing it and inspiration: "killing me now". Fire and Not Today are my two favorite head banger songs. Fire is about the very strict upbringing and schooling for teens in Korea, which even causes suicide from the pressure. So this song says, "You're young; it's OK to fail sometimes. Go be young and raise hell sometimes." Suga says "I'll forgive you." at the end. Spoon reference is in several songs, like our expression "born with a silver spoon in your mouth."

I don't know if you noticed, but all of the solo dance shots in Black Swan were of Jimin's dancing! He has a contemporary background and he's often the most showcased in contemporary-ish choreos they have. He also often does contemporary inspired dancing in his solo dances :)
I watched your reaction to Black Swan twice just to see if you noticed Jimin was dancing the contemporary dances when he is in white at the start and also when he was in black and a corset. I guess you didn’t recognize him in blue hair. But I hope you can watch it again and the behind the scenes video showing the full dance that Jimin did. He’s absolutely amazing. A lot of ARMY will agree with you. While I do enjoy their fully English songs there is something extra special about their songs in Korean. It's such a shame that the western media won't appreciate BTS songs that aren't fully English when by many standards are a lot better sonically and lyrically. It just shows how much xenophobia and racism is still rampant here in the west. BTS fully English songs only came about because of the pandemic. They were supposed to go on a world tour in 2020 which was cancelled because of the pandemic so they figured why not release songs in English to reach a more worldwide audience because they couldn't leave South Korea. They just wanted to make uplifting and happy songs just to bring comfort and hope to people all over the world. Many people have called BTS sell outs for releasing music that's fully English and songs that really poppy and some will even say bland or generic. People say they are only going this route to win a Grammy or do well on the Billboard charts. But BTS have always said they make the music they want to make, do their best, and whatever happens happens. I really think their fully English songs are just being released to hold us over until they can promote and tour in person again for their next album. They did release BE at the end of 2020 but that album was completely unplanned and only exists because of the pandemic so the songs are kind of more about the situation the world was/is facing. Black Swan was filmed at the Los Angeles Theatre before covid became such a huge problem. Black Swan is about BTS fear of one day losing their love and passion for music.

Black Swan was a song that came out on their “Map of the Soul: 7” album which took a more introspective approach to exploring about the self. The song thematically talks about the idea of loosing one’s passion for music. They make the comparison to the famous quote: an artist does twice and the first death is the most painful. Which is referring to the idea that when an artist looses the love they had for their craft/art, a part of them dies, and that death is more painful than a physical one.
As for “Fire” this came out during their Youth trilogy (I believe in their HYYH: Young Forever album) and I was pretty sure Jin was gonna slay your heart. Also…

Most simply put, Black Swan is about their fear of losing their passion for music.
There is an art film they released with a profesionnal dance company and a different instrumental to the song, that starts with the quote "a dancer dies twice - once when they stop dancing, and this first death is the more painful" by Martha Graham. Balck Swan is the same sentiment but with music in general
BTS has a ton of other non-pop songs. A couple of favs of my House of Cards (the absolute best vocal line), Rain, Outro: Tear (rap line), The Truth Untold (vocal line), Your eyes tell, Spring Day (you’ll want to watch an explanation video). BTW, the best version of PTD is the BBC Radio 1.

Fire is in the last part of their Youth series in 2015-2016 (from the album “The most beautiful moment in life: Young forever”) - parts 1 and 2 of the series focused on the fragility and fear/tragedy of growing up and entering adulthood, while this last part is about just burning it all down and partying hard (like “live how you want, it’s your life, it’s okay to lose sometimes, don’t worry so much”.) That also explains the brighter/neon colours :) They have specific looks/themes/hair colours/concept art for each album, which makes it easier to keep track of what happened when once you get a better grasp on the “eras”.

Black Swan is a song about the 2 “deaths” performing artists go though . The first death is losing your passion for your art and the fear of losing that passion . The second death is actually losing the ability both mentally and physically to do your art . Both are sad and dark .

A black swan is a sudden and unexpected occurrence, often with disastrous consequence. That would be this “first death.”
The shadows are the looming fear of this first death, and in the end the shadow is conquered.

Black Swan is one of my favourite songs. The music, the dancing, the lyrics, the visuals are all so beautiful and so deep. Black Swan and White Swan is a metaphor for facing the light and shadows within you that battle to keep your passion alive so you don't end up consumed by your own darkness. It's beautiful.
