My total cholesterol was only 99 as of this past August thanks to a combo of a statin pill and Repatha injection, so those meds plus a smarter diet helped. But the side effects were hell and not worth it. Recurring kidney stones, insomnia, agonizing cramps in my muscles and feet, etc. Now I'm off the meds and working with my cardiologist to monitor things. And before anyone says, "The side effects are better than a heart attack", I had one of those and bypass surgery.
For somebody who doesn't do any sort of exercise, doing anything is better than nothing. Just start with something that you can do right now and progressively improve on it as you learn more. A newbie will get newbie gains despite not knowing what they're doing. Living healthy and learning to be fit isn't something that you learn in 20 minutes. It's a life-long discipline.
I workout in the middle of the day. Only old farts in there and they like to talk. Awesome that a sixty year old is that buff. Even some grandma's that are in great shape
Definitely don't cut out eggs, per a cardiac nutritionist that I took cooking classes from for months. Eggs are in their own class when it comes to good cholesterol. Egg whites and occasionally yolks are phenomenal for your body. The problem is when they're cooked in butter and salt, or consumed with fatty cheese and meat.
I hat a heart attack 23 years ago, at 41. Statins didn't work for me, to say the least; but Red Yeast Rice, Omega 3 oils have. I take both daily.

Thats me , kevs right - im notorious for keeping my hands flat on the Cybex machine, saved by an older guy who showed me how his wrist goes out
Is lifting better for your heart than cardio ? I hike steep mountains in AZ but stopped lifting weights years ago.
Lifting weights increases metabolism. So for that alone, it's beneficial to do some weight training.
I eat mostly vegetarian. I have meat three times a week. I don't think my bag of veggies has any fat in it.
I just had a hamburger it was awesome.
