Thanks for the comment. Sure try it out. Just be sure to use silicone with the correct specifications that can withstand the temperatures.

Ok, so u made jigs that dont sink. Dont u think thats a serious shortcoming of the product? Sinking seems.. essential..
There would be so much possible shapes and sizes for this. In this video I just made simple ball heads of 10g which is what I use most. Silicone will not melt, but not every silicone can withstand such high temperatures. Most silicones will decompose, that is why I bought a special silicone which is suitable for casting tin and lead.

Great video. What kind of silicone is that. I need to make a mold for the same reason and I've been told about RTV but I need more viscosity

It is in German however. Ask again if you need additional information or translation.
It is the only silicone rubber I have worked with so far. I use this kind of silicone for every application.
How many times can you use that mold?
I am sorry, I can not give you a number. I never count and I have not destroyed a mold by use yet. I assume for this mold it is somewhere around 200 times pouring lead into it until it is used up.

If I had a lead master will the mold deform it?
Maybe it gives off heat
Sure you can make a mold from silicone around a lead item. Silicone does not stick to anything except other silicone. When pouring the first half just make sure the parting line is in the middle and half the lead head and hook are embedded in the clay. Test your clay if it works with your silicone before. Some clays prevent the silicone from hardening. Also make sure to use silicone which is rated for 350°C or higher.

You can buy aluminium mold form for round jig heads at the price of about 20 bucks and higher.
I know. I prefer to make my own for the exact shape and hooks I want.

And THEY will make you aluminium form fast + great quality + not a lot of money.

Where did you get jig hook
I ordered the hooks online on Aliexpress from China. They delivered to Germany.
Isn't melting lead dangerous?
Lead is unhealthy if it enters into a living organism. For example lead oxide and especially soluabe other lead salts. However I take precautions not to produce any lead vapour in large quantity and I handle lead oxide very careful with gloves. I collect my lead waste until I have enough to recycle it back into lead metal.
What kind of clay?
Most types of modelling clay will work. The only important thing is that the clay does not react with the silicone or prevent it from hardening. Try it on a small sample first.

How long do they last?
For my fishing conditions they last for ever. I do not go fishing too often. I only catch what I want to eat. I avoid to loose lures and the jigheads only get scratched slowly on a few stones in the water. Also I resharpen the hook tips with a diamond sharpening plate.
The homemade jigheads should last as long as those made from lead bought from a store.
They might be used up after much casting on rocky ground under different conditions but it will take a lot of fishing for that.

Actually I do not really know. So far I did not destroy one with casting lead but I also do not cast so much.
I used molds from this silicone for casting in wax, sulphur, tin, lead and zinc. Using zinc destroys the mold it is too hot. Also using lead makes some fumes and deforms the dimensions of the mold slightly. However I did not get one to the point where it is no longer usable. In my video you can compare the fresh mold with the used mold to see what I mean.

@@weymufffisher What do you mean by "melitng tin cans to make a mold"? Do you mean melting cans made from aluminium to cast a mold from aluminium for casting lead in it?
