This week we're visiting my friend Ricky. This is the first of several visits we'll be making to his fish room-in the future we'll see rare hillstream fish, incredible fish bowls, and beautiful plants. But today we're focusing on a 90 gallon blackwater aquarium. This 90 gallon biotope is set up to mimic the environment that angelfish call home. It's a dark blackwater environment, the water is dyed with biological matter called tannins-the same stuff that dyes your tea brown. This dark environment helps the angelfish, corydoras, apistogramma, and plecos look their best-it also helps them relax and feel camouflaged in the open water. If you want to keep amazon species, a blackwater tank is one of your best options!
