Hey! I am interested in studying abroad at Yonsei and I was wondering how is your experience so far with making friends? I am interested in the single room option but for some reason I'm scared that if I don't a have a double I won't be able to connect with at least another person lmao
I was worried about that too but didn’t have any issues with it. One of my closest friends was someone I met when getting tested for COVID lol. We Kakao talked and on the first day out of quarantine I already had a small group to hang out with. You can meet people in the elevators, common rooms, or zoom class too. In my experience if I met one person they would introduce me to a few more and asking people for their KakaoTalks or Instas makes it easier to connect :)

@@Bunniesi That process was pretty complicated. I actually have a dual citizenship so I could quarantine in my dorm room. My friend who has a long term visa was also able to quarantine in the dorms. But, my other friend hadn’t gotten her visa yet so she went to the government facility. I arranged with Yonsei to quarantine in my dorm but there is also an option to quarantine elsewhere as long as you aren’t with non family members. I don’t regret choosing to quarantine in my dorm especially since you can order food and I have dietary restrictions. Hope this helps :)
I didn’t realize the COVID school year year they let people studied abroad in Korea still as the rest of the world was locked down. I was studying in yonsei as a master student for a semester in fall 2022 and everything just opened backed up!

hi! i had friends staying in korea so i gave some of it to them. there was also an area in the lobby to donate items so i donated larger items there. i took back only what i could fit in my suitcases because shipping stuff over costs so much.

You have to wear a mask when you go out but other than that life is pretty normal here. I hangout with friends but just in small groups and you can eat out at restaurants. If you eat out they take your temp and have you write your name and phone number on a sign in sheet. Norebangs also recently opened up. I feel like I’m always doing something here. It’s great!
Hi! There is an option to apply for a single dorm room when applying for housing. It is more expensive than a double and I think it’s only for SK Global not the I House.

Hi Aria! Yes you do have to bring your own kitchenware/spices but there are places to store them in the kitchen. There is also a common room on each floor with a microwave. I love to cook so I thought I would be using the kitchen often but I haven’t used it because there’s so much good inexpensive food near SK and there also aren’t any ovens in kitchen. Hope this is helpful!

@@bborong for my university, they said technically im "nominated" because yonsei hasn't officially enrolled me as a student yet, but they said that every single person who applies to yonsei through my university and makes it to the nomination stage immediately gets accepted. it's just a matter of time before the official acceptance, so they said to proceed like i already received an official acceptance :) i hope this makes sense!

there was a desk as soon as i walked in where i picked a time to get tested for covid and they gave me a room key and quarantine directions. from there i went to my room. the next day i went back downstairs in time for the covid test appointment i had made and i went with a few other ppl on a bus to a testing facility. then they take u back and u can no longer leave ur room

I was worried about being online b/c I definitely struggle more with distanced learning but I still feel like I’m getting a lot out of the class and I’ve gotten used to online learning. I also like taking a nap on my bad during the 10min breaks lol :)
anyone else this it's amazing that in order for dorms to be powered, you must use a card? this puts America's technology to shame! would anyone like to join a group chat where everyone within this chat can become friends before attending college in South Korea? it'll be a great way to make friends, especially if your Korean isn't that good yet! They just give you monthly allowance..u have to pay for everything!

Food is definitely cheaper in Seoul except for produce. I’d say entertainment was slightly cheaper depending on what you do.
