whenever im listening to a song i try to harmonize but my vocal chords have a different idea...i can never harmonize. when i try to i end up doing melody again edit a year later: y’all i didn’t even know i had this comment- after a year of practicing (because apparently i wrote this a year ago), today i can harmonize to ANY song i hear. i am a singer, my whole family is really good at singing and i’m pretty decent at it (i’m 13 years old right now) i sing in my church’s praise team and my team leader helped me out a lot, but i recommend to start with using the piano. i won’t explain the whole process, but what i did was i played the melody, then moved three notes up from the melody, which is the harmony. if that didn’t make sense i’m sorry you can try searching it up but the piano helped me a lot
Well if you were trying to play a single note together with someone and you were slightly out of tune, (unless you're tone deaf) you would naturally correct to match the person you're singing with. It doesn't really matter how wide the gap between your pitch and the other pitch is, you will naturally pull yourself to match that pitch on some octave. It's simply human nature to resolve that difference. To that point, virtually-perfect pitch harmonic music is very difficult to make, especially when singing or playing a wind instrument.
peepee popoo what helps me is not trying to listen to the main singers melody but singing the song in a different note of the chord hes singing. So sorta like singing in a different (matching) pitch but sometimes a bit higher or lower than that because of majors/minors/7th etc. So I try only to focus on my voice singing the song and only sidewise look for it to match. Probably not a pro tip as I'm horrible at shower singing anyways most of the times this works out for me singing for myself haha
SAME this sound stupid but for me it helped to pick my natural singing level and keep my hand in the middle because that's my pitch but then just keep it there and concentrate on u
@Caprak at first, I watched a lot of tutorial videos on how to harmonize, then I realize it’s like a personal instinct, but those videos helped me somehow. When I joined the choir, our conductress gave us tips on how to harmonize, such as shadowing the melody *if it makes sense*, and when she teaches us she uses her keyboard to show us the right notes for harmonizing then it it became natural for me.
Bruuuuuh..... You make me feel like Im watching science documentaries in middle school again... like what?!?! You're talking about music but Im visualizing the start of the universe. Its like being in a room with Morgan Freeman.
Dude... ive been a music teacher for 20 years and this was such a 'omg' moment I just can't even.... why was i too dopey to think to do just a drone note??? This is 100%... going to start my little tone deaf singer on the 1 and 5 today. Thank you.
You have an amazing talent for narration, if you haven't already I would suggest looking at that kind of work if you ever need some spare change, thanks for the lesson really enjoyed it
Your lessons are so well explained. Even though I learned music theory, I'm sure everyone who just began to study music will also understand every single thing you are explaining, even without watching the previous videos. Great job, man!
I think you are an excellent teacher! I've been around the world twice playing bass, Ive played music since I was in grade 6& let's just say I'm over 50, but.. I still enjoy learning, and I like the concise way you break it dwn, that's not too plodding or ultra remedial, so thank you for putting quality lessons out there I've enjoyed your Rhythm reading music videos as well as your singing instructions choose from Burbank California
Is it weird that when i listen to a song and try to sing the same notes as the singer my brain just doesnt want to but instead it changes my voice to harmonize automatically?
Wow thank you , harmonising is my favourite thing to do , feels absolutely heavenly , spiritual, like I can fly , was never good enough to be a backing vocalist but it's actually where I want to be , in the back ground making the rest of the creation come alive , the icing on the cake so to speak . All the best singers are great backing vocalists I.m.o 😃
That great, Saher. I've used this technique quite a bit. I've always thought of it this way: I look at the chord, find a pedal that is in the chord and creates the most 3rds and 6ths, and use that note. I'll try some root, 5th pedals the next time I need a harmony.
Awesome video Saher! I just did a video on harmony tips too, and I love how you talk about the scale degrees. Really clear way to put it. Sometimes I think talking about scale degrees can seem like one of those music theory things that overwhelms people, but you made it super clear here. Great video man!
I have been singing all my life, but can always use techniques expanding my abilities,.and broaden my ability to contribute meaningfully to compositions I want to sing with.
For starters I’d use the 1, 3, and 5 notes interchangeably. Once you become more advanced you can start singing a major/minor third of the lead note, depending on if the played note is a major or minor in the key
I just figured one out using a lot of pedals, "Crazy Words", by the California Ramblers (we're a Dixieland duo). I couldn't get a harmony I liked for the longest time. This is so easy. It really works pretty well for melodies that skip around a lot. Here's another trick if you have three guys. It's easy to make up a completely different melody over a set of changes completely independent of the melody. Have one guy sing the melody, one guy makeup a melody more or less above the actual melody and the 3rd guy make up another melody more or less below the the actual melody. You are are bound to always have a 3rd or 6th in there somewhere. This doesn't work very well for two voices.
i guess i was just born with a good ear, because it’s easy for me to harmonize lol. i just “hear” a harmony to a melody and i sing what i hear in my head lol
I saw/heard the Bee Gees do this. What they did was use a pedal and then have another guy sing a harmony to the pedal instead of the melody, which very easy to do. The 3rd guy would sing the melody. This works surprisingly well.
I thought I got it until I listened to the harmony part for the dominant. I thought we were just supposed to sing one note, but that does not appear to be what is indicated. Other than that, a great lesson and excellent advice for us beginners.
I find harmonizing tunes with a lot of arpeggios a real bitch, so I end up using petals quite a bit. I have Dixieland Duo (trumpet and four string banjo) where we sing every song. This recent viewing of of your pedal video has really inspired me. I'm going to see if I can get something going with Darktown Strutters Ball using pedals.
My problem is when the other person sings I start to go off my harmony. I’ve gotten better but I have to mute them out. I can’t find how to fix that. I can think of harmonies though
I just sing random notes until it sounds bomb
Same 😂😂
Gender neutral term for sugar Daddy😂

same here. I have no clue how to fix it. I have it down but I always jump to the melody!
omg yes that happens to me to akhskaja

I was having a hard time too, but I joined a chorale at my school and then now I can harmonize very well. I’m a baritone btw.
@@jannmarcos2736 how do you practice?

More like Neil Degrasse Tyson but yes I get you what you mean.
Captain Kirk teaches Harmony
Ikrrrrrrr omggggggg
Not only are you a great teacher, your voice is really soothing as well 😂keep up with the good work!
Dude... ive been a music teacher for 20 years and this was such a 'omg' moment I just can't even.... why was i too dopey to think to do just a drone note??? This is 100%... going to start my little tone deaf singer on the 1 and 5 today. Thank you.
I want you to narrate my documentary..
dude could get paid a lot for voiceovers, probably easier than selling records
Lmfaooooo
your voice is comforting
Hmmm i got very serial killer vibes lol 😂😂
I just felt like someone explained the meaning of life to me and complicated it by a thousand
You have an amazing talent for narration, if you haven't already I would suggest looking at that kind of work if you ever need some spare change, thanks for the lesson really enjoyed it
That voice. I could listen to any of your lessons. I have understood everything you said and I have found a way to harmonize my choir.
Your voice is super Soothing!
Your lessons are so well explained. Even though I learned music theory, I'm sure everyone who just began to study music will also understand every single thing you are explaining, even without watching the previous videos. Great job, man!
Really thankful to you Saher. I follow two of your lessons on harmony everyday. I'm getting there.
Daily practice is the way. Awesome work!
It’s sooooooo much fun when you can finally learn to harmonize
I think you are an excellent teacher!
I've been around the world twice playing bass, Ive played music since I was in grade 6& let's just say I'm over 50, but.. For me, harmonizing is very simple, but this video is actually helpful. Thanks for helping those.
I love your explanation and exercise! It’s so easy to follow.
Υou are awesome. Thank you so much for another great lesson. Chris , Melbourne , Australia.
My pleasure, cheers Chris
So...I'm a music teacher...and I appreciate the background "tonic" and "dominant" pings in the music! Great little touch!
Was this beautiful? Yup.
Did I get it? Nope.
Is it weird that when i listen to a song and try to sing the same notes as the singer my brain just doesnt want to but instead it changes my voice to harmonize automatically?
Sir Juvi wow really ? that’s actually so cool !!
Nope I do that too
Any musician does that...
i wish
Sir Juvi I wish I could do that
i don't know if I'd consider a music theory lesson "an easy trick…." but you did a good job
Best lessons I've come across yet 🙌🏼
His program is just like this.
Man’s voice: Nice
Me: OoOoOoOoOoOo
Wow thank you , harmonising is my favourite thing to do , feels absolutely heavenly , spiritual, like I can fly , was never good enough to be a backing vocalist but it's actually where I want to be , in the back ground making the rest of the creation come alive , the icing on the cake so to speak .

This is the most helpful harmony tip I've ever heard. Fantastic! Thank you for sharing!
Your voice is magical.

I LOVE YOUR LESSONS .. so helpful for aspiring singers like me 🤗
His program is the way to go if you're tryna sing the fastest way
Brilliant little lesson dude. All the best.
I have been singing all my life, but can always use techniques expanding my abilities,.and broaden my ability to contribute meaningfully to compositions I want to sing with.
Thanks!
Man. Your lessons inspire me! KARL DIESEL from São Paulo - Brazil
That was so simple and easy to understand. Love this!!
Just the kind of quick tip I needed to get started. Thanks
Your voice is so relaxing
I started harmonizing with the background music 😹
Spark did enlist in the "army"
Syn Gates uh what
I love this channel 🙏🏽❤️
Best teacher. Thanks Saher all your lessons really helps.
again, incredible lessons and exercises you've got. i hope you do more. you bring a great sense of clarity to music theory.
Sounds like he should be narrating Curious George
For starters I’d use the 1, 3, and 5 notes interchangeably. Once you become more advanced you can start singing a major/minor third of the lead note, depending on if the played note is a major or minor in the key
That was a great teaser... I learned and want more!
you sound so good oh my lord
Agreed!
You sound like Greg from diary of a wimpy kid grown up
Nice!! Informative but therapeutic as well. The whole video has a nice relaxing ambiance about it.
You’re a beast!!! Always practice your stuff! Keep it up legend!
Another great vid from the voice doctor!
Do try this at home!
this guy's voice... I love the way he talks
Appreciate you. I want to learn as much as I can about the music business. I wrote a song. Working on the harmonies for it. Thank you for your time.
Thank you, Saher! Love these harmonizing vids! :)

You're a great educator, Saher. Thanks for the vid!
I always sing two notes bellow / above because singing in thirds is literally my only strategy
mood especially comes in handy being an alto
Just started watching you.. You're pretty awesome
You make it more understandable thanks !
Thanks for this!
Every videos amazing and it's useful and blessed 🙏 tq
I love the 1234567 illustration instead of any actual note names there! Also I really enjoy your voice!
This has been lovely, thank you
i guess i was just born with a good ear, because it’s easy for me to harmonize lol. i just “hear” a harmony to a melody and i sing what i hear in my head lol
Wow I'd pay a lot of cash to have that skill. I hope you randomly harmonize with everything you encounter daily lol x
You're blessed!
Yeah I can do this too 😁😆
Me watching how to harmonize at 12 am: oooooo in the head, man that's hard lol i wanna sing
I saw/heard the Bee Gees do this. What they did was use a pedal and then have another guy sing a harmony to the pedal instead of the melody, which very easy to do. The 3rd guy would sing the melody. This works surprisingly well.

Thank you so much ❤️
From India
Just discovered you dude, and you're awesome 😁👍
Thank you so much! This is helpful!
Great technique
Beautiful!
Great lesson🙌❣️
I'm just naturally good at improvising harmonizing
I need you to narrate my life.
If you know the notes on A piano you Will know What he is talking about the tonic and dominant.
Or the root and the fifth
Works well for me😊
I need more practice...thanks for a great start.
Woahh... Luv it
Awesome info!
I can't find that note for the dominant at 3:21 - I don't think we got to hear it in isolation
Very interesting! Love it.
Love this
Simply awesome....thank you very much.!!!!!

I wish I saw this before I started my garage band. "Cacaphonous Din!"

sound vs function....excellent
I'm still shook.
Wow! You're awesome
2,3,4 Ok.. here we go.. aaaaaaaa you’re from another planet
The part I said ooooo was so amazing 😂
My problem is when the other person sings I start to go off my harmony. I’ve gotten better but I have to mute them out. I can’t find how to fix that. I can think of harmonies though
