Thanks a million, Dr. Miguel, for such a highly informative and quite explanatory video. You literally saved me from reading dozens of research papers and theses that may take me weeks to understand what a critical review looks like. You summarised everything I need to know in roughly 15 minutes. Well done 👏
Thank you! I'm almost finished with my dissertation and are-reading it before submission I realized my Chaper 2 critique requires depth and breadth. Thank you - your direction saved me!
Great video! I am only in my second year of my Undergraduate Degree, but this video really helped me to see the difference in how the two are written. Feedback on my last task was only as detailed as to say, "not enough critical analysis". This video really helped me to take that feedback and use it to improve my writing. Thanks!
Thank you so much. I have been trying to understand what my supervisor has been saying for our last couple of meetings, and I finally get it. This was a missing lecture in our research Methods classes.
I love this .video ...It is the first video I watched fully !!!! I took notes and screen shots ..Thank you very much ...Can we have a video highlighting the differences between a critical literature review and a systematic literature review
Thank you for this video. I have just received feedback from my professor on my Literature Review that my LR was too descriptive. Now I realize the analytical and evaluative aspects of the LR thanks to your video!
I had challenges in not being too repetitive with the themes. I hope you can give us some tips on that. Overall, an excellent demonstration. Its sad that education has become very expensive even in the West, its not like back in the days. So grateful to have these videos.
Thank you so much Sir ! i got comment from supervisor about my literature being too descriptive. this video has helped me know more about critical literature. liked..and subscribed :)
Thanks so much Dr. Miguel Moital Indeed this demonstration is of the highest intellectual level - Critical thinking, however I suggest for more examples to consolidated the knowledge 👌
Hendricks. Thanks for your feedback. I am organising a video-book which will contain many more tips and tools, including more examples of the intellectual ladder. I am hoping to launch the video-book in 2022. If opportunity arises, I will post a video here with the ladder applied to analysing data.
OMG! I thoroughly enjoyed watching this. Clear and concise using illustrative demonstrations that are easy to apply in practice. Dr. Moital, thank you!
Just starting to write my general literature review. Realised I have managed to scrape through with my past essays, not really knowing what I'm doing! I think this sounds really helpful and I am looking forward to putting it into practice!
Many thanks for your comment. I hope your students can benefit from it. Have a look at the video on analysing papers. It is also an area that students tend to struggle a lot.
Thank you! It seems like I am just understanding this aspect of a research! I would love to here your explanation on the difference between analysis and discuss of the data
Thanks for your feedback. You mean data analysis and discussion of findings? I have recently started developing something around that but it's not ready yet. It depends on whether you are discussing the actual findings/results or the theoretical meaning of those results. In either case one of the purposes of the discussion is to compare and contrast your findings / theoretical meaning of findings with those from past studies. What is new/different? What is similar? There's more to it but this is a good start.
One quick question. I see you have many videos on academic tools/apps. What would be your ONE go to place for academic research - especially literature review in social science - even if it is a paid option? Please guide me. I can buy only one subscription. Thank you!
@@RaihanJamil thanks for your question. I think there are still benefits from doing the literature review the old fashioned way - manually. Simply because analytical tools can only look at the surface meaning of the papers rather than analyse the deep meaning / implicit assumptions. This said, some parts of the process can benefit from automation and the support of tools. I have not delved enough into AI tools but sometimes I use a PDFGear (free tool) to help me analyse papers faster. There are also good visualisation tools (litmaps - free and paid) to help you track links between papers.
Dear Sonia, thanks for the feedback. It's great that you found it to be excellent. You can always come to study at Bournemouth University and study Events Management (the degree I teach to)...
Thank you for your kind comment. If you mean the Virtual Tutor Online Resource, it's not available yet. I continue to record videos with a view to launch the resource sometime in 2023.
Can I please ask for the references of this video? I mean which sources is the information derived from? Can I please ask for them for further readings? Thank you very much!
Thanks for your comment. There is no reference... I created this explanation based on my understanding of how the critical process is implemented. Presumably, you can cite the video as a source.
Thanks for your comment. At the moment I have not recorded any other videos on this topic. Have a look at the video about how to analyse papers which covers the issue of theming when reading papers.
Thanks for your email. I am not familiar with that literature however your focus should be on theory - theoretically speaking, what has research on the topic focused on? In more practical terms, this coils mean understanding the concepts that research on the topic as focused on, as well as reviewing what sorts of relationships between concepts have been studied. Good luck in your dissertation.
