I think the gum chewing is just marvins freedom to do as he pleases, he doesn't look like he cares about what anybody thinks because of the pain he's been thru
Nidra Life IMHO The gum chewing is cos he's high as a kite on coke. Coke makes you 'chomp' constantly. If you don't have gum, then you end up chewing up the inside of your cheek and bottom lip. Trust me, I know.
no its facts, all sources say marvin used hella coke and pcp. was pretty common back in the 60s and 70s. Plus....I've done coke before, not my cup o tea but it definitely gives you typewriter jaw. Way to overthink it bud.
Everyone complaining about his gum chewing. Fyi Marvin was a smoker. Maybe he wasn't allowed to smoke during the interview. When you're a smoker you're gonna smack gum as if you are chewing a piece of meat. Just wanted to throw that out there.

That smile!😍
I live everything about Marvin, he was pure and humble and honest and beautiful in every way .
Quite special I would agree! Have you gotten the chance to see Gromyko Collins' performance of Marvin Gaye, loosely based on the Tom Joyner interview, including the gum chewing...hilarious! Subscribe to Gromyko's channel if you'd like to follow his journey of 'Becoming Marvin Gaye'!

Marvin was such a kind, humble, Gentleman.
He always looks so handsome, and always spoke truth! He is my all time favorite vocalist and performer!!! I love this handsome man, and wish he were still here with us. I believe MG is one of my angels from heaven. Love u, Marvin. -3
rip Mr Gaye
I'm impressed how honest he was in this interview. Besides the fact that he was a legend , he deserves thumbs up for being so clearly honest. He could have lied and just simply avoided the questions but he chose to be honest to the world that couldn't have been easy. People say their keeping real but he really did. Kudos Marvin. RIP
Feel this so hard
It was quite sweet to see the compassion that the interviewer showed to Mr Gaye in regards to his depression.
He was very honest. Motown personalities were amazing along with being great entertainers. RIP Marvin.
3:43 You can truly sense that Marvin has been hurt so intensely. “Here My Dear” is such a powerful body of work, it has made me afraid of divorce. I haven’t been married, and I don’t plan on it because I don’t know if I could take the Heartbreak of divorce. Marvin truly was a sensitive, passionate soul. Rest in Paradise ❤️🙏🏾

Marvin is so natural unaffected really down to earth person. Someone I'd love to know and talk with. He's deeply intuitive and sensitive. Too passive sometimes. I just love ❤️ his complete honesty. Another loss way too soon!!!!🎶🎼🎹💕💕👄🌻📀💔💗💔💔💔

When he talks you would never guess he sings like he does. I still miss artists like him.
Marvin is certainly high but no less eloquent and articulate for that. Such a good looking elegant man - even strung out he's classy ..
simon g chiiiiiiiile...
His laugh 😍😍😍😍😍
I really am in love 😍😍😍😍😍
True artist
He felt so much
You can feel it in his face
What a great interview. Great guys. One for the ages.
I consider this, retroactively, a primordial podcast. It’s kind of “the first podcast ever”. I love it.
"im broke"
Marvin's voice is sooo Beautiful❣️
Am I the only one who actually liked the sound of him chewing that gum? I found it amusing.
It has me laughing my ass off lol
Yeah its cool yeah its cool
+Alex Krauth I love it. It's actually soothing to me
Jasmin Lloyd cause its Marvin only cause
+Alex Krauth I can't stand it but hey it's Marvin.
I can’t get enough of him
@Kenni Saun No
Marvin was the best singer ever imo! R.I.P. Marvin. You'll never be forgotten!
"Love is misery"
I love Marvin! He reminds me so much of my Father! ❤
What amazing honesty. And such a beautiful smile.
The gum doesn't bother me. Why are ppl so focused on that? The man is saying some real ish. Artist like him that we knew and loved are imperfect ppl who create great music. He was a tortured soul and no amount of religion or prayer was going to heal the pain he felt. He was self destructive. RIP Marvin
The man had no self-respect.
That chewing gum is the most famous chewed gum in the entire universe!!! Lol

Beautiful man
He was so attractive with a calm and cool personality
I have been so drawn to Marvin and his music lately, I appreciate this video, now I understand why
I Enjoyed Marvin Gaye's Music... Rest In Peace... Prince Of Soul.
beautiful speaking voice
Maaaaaan💘💘💘💘💘the finest black man who ever lived. My opinion.
+Simon Finch Are you a doctor? Or is this just an opinion.
+Ruben Clemente He must be speaking from personal experience.
+Simon Finch exactly it's got to be the Coke. It makes you grind your teeth and he was on a lot of it.
no its facts, all sources say marvin used hella coke and pcp. was pretty common back in the 60s and 70s. Plus....I've done coke before, not my cup o tea but it definitely gives you typewriter jaw. Way to overthink it bud.
He is such sn honest pure soul. Unpretentious.
Everyone complaining about his gum chewing. Fyi Marvin was a smoker. Maybe he wasn't allowed to smoke during the interview. When you're a smoker you're gonna smack gum as if you are chewing a piece of meat. Just wanted to throw that out there.
He is so natural!
such an honest man. RIP Marvin!
ONE OF THE RAREST HONEST CELEBRITIES EVER, TO SPEAK THIS WAY ABOUT THEMSELVES
Gifted from God, truly talented. Well spoken and human.
His smile and point of view of things Drew me all the way in😍😍😍
Marvin, spoke from his heart regarding his personal challenges. He truly has such a Beautiful presence as he was answering the questions. Miss you Marvin! Your music Lives on 💋

Thank you for posting this!!
The greatest male singer to ever walk the planet.
Deep interview..... How have interviews changed 😦
Both these guys lit one up before this interview
The cultural critic Nelson George put it best, no one has ever been more articulate about their psychosis and death instincts than Marvin Gaye.
