I was lucky enough to have spent considerable time with the Choctaw Indians around Conehatta, Ms. I have cane baskets from most of the major weavers that I am very proud of. Melvin Henry, a Choctaw white oak basket maker from Philadelphia, Ms was kind enough to teach me how to make white oak baskets. Swamp cane baskets are much harder to make and a very high level of skill is required. I have enjoyed every minute of my friendship with Choctaw Indians.
This is the best video I've found for harvesting cane

Thank you for this informative video that comes from the heart. I am grateful to be able to learn more about my ancestors.
Eveline is a gem.
I am finished with my basket but am having trouble finishing the rim. Is there a way to contact them to learn how to finish the rim?
