    My first amp back around 1966/67. Wish I still had it. Thanks for a bit of nostalgia Terry.

    Thanks for the videos, I finished recapping my Kalamazoo Model Two today, before I saw this video. The tremelo works fine, the amp sounds great! Original tubes, just changed the filter caps, power cord, 1A fuse. The serial number is 1439! And it appears to have been hiding in a closet since the sixties. I only paid a hundred bucks for it in an antique store. These are great little tube amps!

    Hate to drag up an old subject, but I have had a Kalamazoo Model 2 since 1974 (paid $20), replaced the filter caps to reduce the hum, but used two 10’s and a 20uf capacitors as the schematic seems to show, but wondered why you used a 47 and two 22uf capacitors? I also changed the power cord a year or so ago, based on your tutorial, as well as removing the “death” cap. Thank you for the clear instruction! -Dan

    1:21 that's right, do it right the first time. which was how I got into repairing amps myself--the tech I sent a 67 Bassman years ago didn't do a complete job. Great Stuff once again, Terry!

    Hi Terry, your videos and advice helped me repair my Kalamazoo Model 1 last year. For the three prong power cable I used a laptop charger cable with the "Mickey Mouse" end. The cable is flat enough to fit through the original power cable restraint system.

    Had this amp on loan for a while and loved it. Especially the tremolo which is interesting - it changes the cathode bias as I recall, which had this trem effect on the amount of distortion in a really pronounced way. I'm cloning the trem circuit for an amp build i'm doing cuz it sounds so wacky! Thanks for the really useful vid, Terry!!

    I've heard you mention that you're removing the "death cap" several times recently. Hoping you can take a minute in a future video to explain why you call it that and maybe show a schematic that includes such a cap so we can see its purpose and failure modes. Thanks.

    • @jamzoni1131

      @Time the Avenger The Hot wire (brown) should be fused as shown, but the convention is, the hot wire should also be routed thru the switch. The neutral (blue wire) shouldn't be wired thru the switch..

    • @jamzoni1131
      @jamzoni1131 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Time the Avenger Connect to one of the input leads of the transformer to the blue wire. The other input lead of the transformer goes to the switch (which it may already be connected to).

    When I was a teenager, I learned my lesson (the hard way) on getting lazy with replacing the capacitors. On a couple of different TV's, I only replaced the faulty section of a multi-section can. Guess what? Within a couple of weeks, both TV's came back and the other section of the capacitor had failed. After that, my rule became....if one section is faulty, they all go. BTW, another thing I can't stand is when people get lazy and solder the new capacitors directly across the old one. I've actually seen old servicing books where that practice was condoned; but, we both know that it's not a good idea and why.

    hello terry, have you tried to remove the rivet using a drill with a drill bit (in the diameter of the rivet)? It's a shape I use and it always works! Regards

    Was it Johhny B. Goode that could play a guitar like ringin' a bell? You do the same in electronics repair, my man! I love to see how instantaneously your instinct kicks in when you get inside an amp carcass. But...can you play any ZZ Top riffs thru your finished jobs? (Uncle Doug does...kinda....but we all love him, too!)

    I currently have a New Zealand made Rockit Super Sustain 130 head. Which looks kind of like a Mesa amp with the basket weave, and the circuit kind of looks like a Music Man RD130 style amp with solid state preamp, 12AX7 Phase Inverter, and 4x 6L6 power tubes.
    The power section was an abortion, and with almost no background on the amp, I've been slowly rebuilding the power section. They (previous "tech") just mounted new low budget caps to the original can caps. NO! And the wiring looks like it's been changed. So I'm slowly reverse engineering the thing, but it will be great when it's done.

    Silly question. It looks like you riveted the terminal strip to the chassis. I always find rivets eventually loosen up and you might lose a good connection. Why not a #4 screw or something with lock washers?
