I totally need you guys to make an entire video about Pistachio. I know it's expensive and it's hard to find, especially considering the one we use, the Pistacchio di Bronte is protected and therefore extra expensive, but it's such an important ingredient, especially in Sicily. From gelato to granita, from pesto to a spread that's better than Nutella, we use it as topping and we use it as the main star of the dish and our Pistacchio verde di Bronte is one of the best pistachio varieties in the world.
If you are ever in the Pasadena, CA area -- there's a gelato shop just north that has incredible pistachio gelato from a real Italian master. It's called Bulgarini Gelato in Altadena.
I bought enough pistachios to make 2 trays of Palestinian-style baklava. It cost a veritable fortune. But they make their baklava with pistachios instead of walnuts, so I bought the more expensive pistachios.
My favorite gelato flavor is definitely pistachio! I’m fortunate enough to have an authentic gelateria run by a sicilian family near me. I could eat their pistachio gelato every day of the week.

Awesome review. Too bad travelportals haven't been invented yet 😒. I'd stop by both of those shops and try your favorite flavors today. Thanks for sharing
Huh, interesting! Great info, esp if I ever find myself in Australia! I wonder if they do an ube flavor to go alongside the pandan, or if that would confuse people with the taro. Very cool to hear about a Chinese man drawing inspiration from all over the world and using it in gelato =) there's a small ice cream chain in Southern California (Wanderlust Creamery) that does the same, with rotating monthly flavors. I'd love to taste something like that in gelato form!

Thank you Eva for making us these rich and beautiful gelato desserts. I have fond memories of Spumone and especially Tartufo which we served at our wedding 34 years ago. Thank you Harper for Mr. Rogers, my heart melted along with your gelato!
Hubby and I spent our first anniversary in Italy on a super-budget USO (US serviceman's organization) tour. Unfortunately, we were in Rome on a Tuesday when all the 'main attractions' were closed. We were very plucky though and found a nice little 'ice cream shop' (sorry, gelateria?) where we purchased two desserts that looked like American ice cream cones made with local strawberries. Great to be there in May when Roman strawberries were in season! We were being 'cheap' and not eating at the places the tour took all the American tourists and got to make many memories of foods purchased willy-nilly away from the tour group. Loved this video and the many memories it prompted.
We want a granita episode and a feat. again with brioscia col tuppo! I still don't know why the ritual of sitting down at a cafè and having a granita served in a fancy glass and a heavenly brioche hasn't yet taken the place of aperitivo in our hot summers
Thank you for the great recipes. We were lucky growing up in Toronto in the 70's that we had a fantastic corner convenience store where Giacamo made italian gelato. Oh the sweet memories. Chocolate, banana, grape, coffee, lemon. Thank you Eva and Harper❤.
Bless you Eva! Although I left my native Vienna when I was 5 years old, I still remember certain beloved foods after almost 70 years. When my Mom, daughter and I went back to Austria in 1996, I revisited those favorites. I can and have made most myself, I couldn't find a good hazelnut gelato despite looking and looking and looking. I can't *wait* to try your recipe. Mille Grazie!
Lemon 🍋 gelato is the best. Not to be confused with lemon sorbet. That gelato tartufo at the end was insane 🤤. The spumoni that I am used is like Neapolitan ice cream except it is with pistachio, chocolate, and a sweet cherry flavor with candied cherries 🍒; nothing like what Eva made today. But of course it looked delicious.
Yeah, I second what we in America have come to know as "Spumoni" Ice cream. Is it completely different from this "Spumone", or are they somehow related? They seem different in form and flavor, but those names are really similar 🤔

My favorite gelato was always nocciola. When I lived in Salerno, Italy back in the 70s, I used to love having the brioche con la Panna! I will now try it with the gelato!
You two literally drive me crazy. I can taste the food thru the screen. All the recipes I remember tasting in Italy, you are showing me how to make it here in the US. Thank you, thank you, thank you! You are my favorite youtube channel, I can't get enough...I am obsessed with your excellent cooking skills.
Eva never ceases to amaze me with her repertoire! Gelato now an enviable addition! So skilled in putting these wonderful deserts together, too! Brava! Great video, guys!
I remember the day I had basilic gelato in Brescia, I wanted to open a gelato cafe on the spot, so amazing, I tried the violet gelato, to die for and I am not an ice cream person at all, I never think about dessert ever! but that gelato was amazing!
I went to Venice, and one shop that was away from the tourist section had a gelato with a Nutella swirl!! That was the BEST 'ice cream' I've ever had (The one and only gelato I've ever eaten)!
Difficult to say there's too many good flavours. But among my favourites are Stracciatella, Pistaccio and with Figs and Walnuts. Figs and Walnuts is *chefs kiss*.
Hi Eva and Harper! I am from Brooklyn, NY and around here, Spomone is something a little different. My guess is it has became Americanized, and they took out the cake. tt is spelled Spumoni, and it is basically 3 types of ice cream (vanilla, chocolate, and pistachio) in one- kind of like how Breyer's sells Neapolitan ice cream. I don't think you can find this in grocery stores but it is still served in some Italian pizzerias and ice cream shops. It is usually served in a cup or on a cone, and it is not so easy to find these days. There is a famous pizzeria in Brooklyn that is known for it's pizza and spumoni called, Spumoni Gardens. It was once (maybe still) mob owned, but you didn't hear that from me. lol You may want to check it out if you ever come back to NY. I haven't been there in a couple of years, but they make good "Sicilian style" pizza, where they put the cheese first, then the sauce. I think the spumoni is better than the pizza, especially that they put pieces of pistachio in the ice cream. I may have to take a ride over there now and get me some! Ciao!
I would love to see a recipe for Crema Reggina; I also absolutely love Rum Raisin Ice Cream and it would be interesting to see the Italian version of it
I moved to Italy and married my Italian husband. He used to take me to a place in Martina Franca called Latteria del Ringo. They had an amazing rum raisin gelato. The thing is you have to understand in Italy is that if it says it's rum raisin they literally put rum in the gelato. Most desserts have alcohol in them. Many of the gelato shops my husband would take me, when you would buy a container of gelato the gelato was put over top a very thin piece of cake that was soaked in rum. They even have a boxed cakes like Little Debbie's called Fiesta. My husband always got the orange and it outside of it was dipped in dark chocolate. Had a very strong orange flavor but the thing that overpowered it was the alcohol inside the cake. And yes, children consumed these. Since it's not a taboo for children to consume alcohol there I assume that's why they don't have the alcohol problems that we have in the US.
OMG! I had completely forgotten about spumone!! I haven't had that since I was a little girl. I think my Italian grandfather was the one that made it...but I could be wrong. Now I am soooooooooo craving spumone...

YES!! I remember seeing those tartufo billboards when we drove through Pizzo! We stayed in Tropea May 2019 for several days. Because we are Jehovah’s Witnesses, we wanted to visit our Assembly Hall in Francavilla Angitola. What a lovely drive! But I regret we didn’t stop for the tartufo😥. Another FABULOUS video💗💖💝💓💕💞
Thank you for your awesome recipes! Here in Malaysia we also have ice cream bread sandwich, the classic flavours would be neopilitan icecream on soft whitebread! It's a childhood favourite, I'll try it with brioche when I next have it, looks super yums.
Yourgurt flavor is the best!! I used to move pistachio and nocciola or baci but sometimes they are too sweet and creamy when I want something more less heavy and refreshing (which most of the time in summer),and a yougurt is a good middle place i can go:)
My favourite gelato is zuppa englese. Come to Melbourne Australian we have all the authentic Italian food. My favourite gelateria, is owned by an old Italian man who has been making gelato all his life. It tastes as good as the gelato made in Italy.
That is actually a sicilian brioche, not a french one :) it's called "brioche siciliana" or "brioche col tuppo" (tuppo = the little ball on the top, literally the "chignon", in dialect, that women usually did with their hair in Sicily long time ago)
I'm lucky that my dad was from Sorrento, so grew up eating amazing gelato every summer that we spent there. But outside the favourites I had there, I used to visit an Italian gelato shop in Brighton on the south coast of the UK, and they used to make the most amazing pear and parmesan ice cream. Doesn't sound like it should work, but it was amazing!
I live in what used to be an Italian neighborhood in Brooklyn. We have a fantastic bakery in the nabe that makes theee best gelato! The amarena cherry is wonderful and the pistachio is the best. I’ve made ice cream but never gelato. I’ll have to try.
I love Italian Gelato..I am fortunate that in my local grocery store they sell gelato from Italy imported pre packaged. So I can enjoy the treat. It will never be like the real experience in Italy..but thats as close as I will be . but they do have Italian owned gelato stores in my city..! So tasty..
I make affogatto a lot, in the autumn, which is coming up soon. I read about it years ago and was seized with the desire for it immediately. I already had a little espresso pot like the one in the video, so I went out and got some "gelato" (who knows if it's the right one or not) and made it. I have it as a snack when it is nice weather out, and I don't want to be too hot or too cold.
I don't remember the name of the gelateria in Sorrento (might have been Napoli) but they had this heavenly concoction called "Profumo di Sorrento" that was a combination of Lemon and Orange with zest and bits of both fruits that was unbelievable. They also had a Pesca that was so good especially if you combined the two. An elderly American couple who were clearly gelatoholics followed us to the gelateria and when the wife came out with an extra large size of the two flavors, her husband asked if he could have a taste and the wife practically snarled "Go get your own!"
@@PastaGrammar one of the telling signs of American versus Italian is that last letter. SPumone = from Napoli; SPumoni - AMerican concoction of wild flavors
Gelato cakes are very common, I think throughout Italy, but certainly here in Sicily. After all, they are not very different from Spumone, but there are many variations and obviously an infinite number of flavors.
I have been to Italy a bunch of times. They have the knack of taking just a few simple ingredients and turning it into something so incredibly delicious, you would swear it took a week to make. I swear if you gave an old Italian cook some water, salt and a rock...they could some how make that work.
Hi guys, love your videos taught me so much! I'd love to see Italian guide to mushroom, I feel like it's hard to find authentic recipes with mushroom ;)
Grazie! My most favourite gelato flavour has been pineapple. There is/was a little stand in a square in Venice that had mind-blowing pineapple gelato. Buuuut... there are many other contenders. When in Italy I take it as a solumn duty to enjoy All the gelato and All the prosecco. Re: spumoni. As a kid in Michigan, the local very fancy restaurant was somewhat Italian. It has an actual, proper, antipasta of charcuterie and cheese and peppers and olives and so on. It also served what it called spumoni, which was an almost-too-rich ice cream studded with glace nuts and fruits. Yours looks MUCH better.

Nocciola gelato is also my favourite! Now I know I know I have good tastes, considering I'm aligned with Eva's 😁
My favourite gelato is zuppa englese. Come to Melbourne Australian we have all the authentic Italian food. My favourite gelateria, is owned by an old Italian man who has been making gelato all his life. It tastes as good as the gelato made in Italy.
Gelato from Italy and brioche from France. What a great combination! 😜
Modern Gelato was invented in Paris from a Sicilian guy called “Francesco Procopio dei Coltelli” in his Café Procope in late 1600
Search him!
Brioche col tuppo
That is actually a sicilian brioche, not a french one :) it's called "brioche siciliana" or "brioche col tuppo" (tuppo = the little ball on the top, literally the "chignon", in dialect, that women usually did with their hair in Sicily long time ago)
I'm lucky that my dad was from Sorrento, so grew up eating amazing gelato every summer that we spent there. But outside the favourites I had there, I used to visit an Italian gelato shop in Brighton on the south coast of the UK, and they used to make the most amazing pear and parmesan ice cream. Doesn't sound like it should work, but it was amazing!
wow!
La brioche col cappuccio!!!😍
I live in what used to be an Italian neighborhood in Brooklyn. We have a fantastic bakery in the nabe that makes theee best gelato! The amarena cherry is wonderful and the pistachio is the best. I’ve made ice cream but never gelato. I’ll have to try.
È un piacere e una gioia guardarvi ! Siete terapeutici 👍🏼😊😉
The Spumoni I've always had was chocolate cherry and pistachio, I love it!
Gelato is the best!🍦pistacchio is my favourite 😍
I love Italian Gelato..I am fortunate that in my local grocery store they sell gelato from Italy imported pre packaged. So I can enjoy the treat. It will never be like the real experience in Italy..but thats as close as I will be . but they do have Italian owned gelato stores in my city..! So tasty..
Her hair has its own heartbeat 🖤 she's stunning 😍 I love you guys, long time fan. Keep em coming. 😁
Pistachio gelato is my ultimate favorite flavor 😋😋😋
😂😂😂😂
Great recipes again! I have always thought Spumoni is a pistachio, cherry, chocolate yumminess but I keep learning.
It can be! There really aren't very many rules when it comes to spumone
My own lavender or bay leaf gelato are my favorites.
I have been to Italy a bunch of times. They have the knack of taking just a few simple ingredients and turning it into something so incredibly delicious, you would swear it took a week to make. I swear if you gave an old Italian cook some water, salt and a rock...they could some how make that work.
I’ve never had this as a gelato flavor, but I love Amaretto poured over vanilla ice cream. Can you make an Amaretto gelato?
Pistachio is definitely my favourite gelaot flavour.
Hi guys, love your videos taught me so much! I'd love to see Italian guide to mushroom, I feel like it's hard to find authentic recipes with mushroom ;)
Mocca/coffee icecream/gelato is my favorite.
Lemon, mango, passionfruit and strawberry are good, too
Spumoni is my favorite for a Baked Alaska or similar desserts.
My favorite gelato flavor is lemon and cinnamon. I had it when I was in Italy😊
I live in Hawaii, and we have a local artisian Gelato place, I love their Dutch chocolate and stracciatella flavors. It’s such a guilty pleasure
I make gelato using cornstarch comes out very well! simple milk flavour is my favourite!
Thank youuuuuu! I was searching last week for gelato recipes and was wishing you guys had one posted! 🙌🙏
Love gelato! My favourites are limone, licorice root, a very dark chocolate etc etc
