My 94 F 150 quit running at an inopportune time.. old school thinking took me right to the fuel pump or fuel filter. I was going to cut a hole in the bed so I could access the fuel pump but came to the conclusion that it was not the pump.. Stumped I decided to look for help on TH-cam and came across your video.. replaced that water temperature sensor.. and she fired right up.. thank you so much for taking the time to post this video!
I scrolled pass this video And you saved me a year worth of trouble shooting and part swapping. Thank you my friend 🙏🏽 it fixed my hard start problem 100%
You saved me thanks I bought all the parts you did before I found your video today I just unplugged my coolant sensor and my truck hasn’t died yet . I’ll buy a new sensor ASAP thanks again
Dear friend, i whatch your video a while ago, and a week a go my f-150 1994 didn't start and got worse, i almost drained the battery out, remember your video, got the cooling sensor and caboom, it worked and starts like a champ, thank you so much for your help and hard work i really congratulate and appreciate your time and effort to help out, God bless YOU and merry Xmas 👍👍👍
Arturo Camacho your welcome. It's this sort of thing that got me to post videos in the first place. Though it has been a long time since I have posted any more. I'm glad it helped. Merry Christmas to you sir
Mike Yocum not a problem glad to help! I only wish I had the means and time to do more videos these days. Coolant Temperature Sensor! Wow, I wouldn't have guessed that could do that. Nice find! I've been having the same problem (starts, runs like crap, dies, won't start again for a long time) and tried a bunch of things. I even removed the old CTS and cleaned it and reinstalled it! But, after watching this, I got a new one for $30 and now it starts and idles and I can stop and restart it! Thanks!
@@bmaiceman Right. I guess maybe the computer (or whatever) gets a reading on the coolant temp that is sky-high or sub-freezing and decides to be safe and not start (after the initial start if it's been sitting for a while). What a PITA, man! This took me a couple of weeks of work and parts until I saw your video. Again, thanks for posting. I hope other poor bastards like us will find your vid!

thanks for this video i have a 96.It ran fine then one day at the gas station it wouldnt start then when it did it would die when you put in drive then wouldnt hardly start and ran like crap long story short and to much money later i watched your video today went to the parts store and 14.00 later BAM starts and runs great.THANKS

John here Got 1993 5.0 map sensor coolant sensor and throttle position sensor it was fluttering and shifting hard had high idle plus backside of throttle body built up bad. So happy today it's now back to to normal.
🚨 OK i have a very important question that i feel like you can answer or help me with. My question is i have a 93 ford f150 5.0L and never had any trouble with starting or ruff idle or no start ext.. the other day my temp gauge was kinda warming up faster then normal so i replaced the thermostat, WELL doing so i broke the COOLANT TEMP SENSOR connection NOT THE WIRE HARNESS CONNECTION.. so i kinda jerry rigged it to make it home and after I closed the hood from replacing the thermostat everything started up and normal and i drove 45min back home but still the inside temp gauge was going up n down but still drove as normal because truck never over heated.. WELL 3min before i got going 55mph truck started acting as if i was out of gas and wanting to stall. So thankfully i jus made it home and parked it Popped the hood and sure enough the ect finally fully broke.. next morning went to advanced purchase ect went home installed it and when i crank it it does the same thing as if the old temp sensor is still installed... any advise will really help, its my only way to go and i dnt have any check engine light (witch could be bad bulb) and i dnt have anyway voltage or codes scanner??? 🚨
1 inch socket works a lot better for 10 dollars now. I did this but I still have a hot start issue but this I believe this was part of the issue. It is a lot better than previous
my 1996 Ford F-150 XLT is doing the exact same thing yours was doing.. I've replaced the air control sensor on the side of the throttle body, Got a new Ignition module on the way, had a new computer put in it, I haven't tried the engine coolant temperature sensor yet but might as well put one of those in there too. a new distributor or remanufactured one. clean the throttle body, new fuel tank selector switch, oxygen sensor, hopefully, one of these will fix it...oh yeah. the fuel filter and the fuel pumps. One might ask why don't you just sell the thing and buy a new truck but I love the body style of the 94 through 97. My father helped me get this truck just before he died and I don't have the heart to get rid of it.. Good luck to all of you 1994-97 Ford F-150 XLT Truck owners that are having this very annoying problem. Think I'll start with the coolant temperature sensor!! Thanks for your video!! I'm hoping that little piece of crap as you called it is the problem..
I have a 1993 Ford F-150, V-6, won't start. Replaced coil, distributor, and computer. Would start up & run for 30 minutes, then die & refuse to start. Replaced computer twice... Same thing...Any suggestions welcomed.
My '93 4.9 not start . Check codes with code reader didn't show a temp sensor code. Showed interrupted ignition circuit. Getting ready to buy distributer . Gonna pull the plug on the sensor first see what happens
Ok pulled the plug rescan and coolant temp error. Replugged and rescanned, sensor was ok still interrupted ignition circuit. Already changed the coil and the ICM. Got a dizzy from the parts store. Installed that changed plugs. No start no spark. Arghh. My buddy came over and looked up some TSB's. Went thru the wiring harness but no luck. Towed her to the shop. ☹️Showed/ told what I had done, they called me the next day and said the ICM I installed was bad. Arghhhhhh. I did address a few future issues like worn dizzy, water in the wiring harness a couple iffy junctions in the wiring. Be careful of the foil. I have a new ignition system . She is alive again and functioning well. 386795miles(bought her in '94) she's my daily ,waiting to see what goes next. Thanks for your insight. Keep on fording
Check codes to fix it quicker. There aren't any codes for the module. There's a digital code tester for Ford. Amazon has it. If you get a code for the CTS, check the radiator first. If low, fill it up.
You know when you pulled tht distributor all ya had to do push those two pins out at the gear and sleeve and the whole shaft will slide out then you replace the sensor or pickup. Never use a puller like some ppl will tell you. If ya do it will slip and damage the bell and youll never get it off. The bell is pressed on by crimp press. Food for thought next time.
Knowing that the abs sensor was in the diff was a big help. Just launched a boat 🚢 and abs and brake light come on periodically... Diff was submerged in water 😒 Shouldnt be an issue but im sure the rubber around the censor was cracked and shorted.

If you checked the codes, you would've got a code for PIP sensor. Get a new distributor. Get a oil pump primer shaft to align the distributor to oil pump shaft.
Get a Actron CP9690 code tester. It checks live, record, graphing, emissions test, oxygen sensor test, transmission codes, solenoid and relay test, memory codes, and MORE! It works on 1983-2013 and is updatable. A code tester would've given a PIP sensor code.
it sure will cause it to not run or run bad, its tied into the tps, iac , and map sensor wires , my 1988 f250 5.8L did it to me a few years ago. i have been where you were in this video, yep the check enfine light bulb is burnes out, i would replace all the bulbs in the cluster to save time later
I replaced my coolant temp switch with new one...truck still wont run. Checked fuel pumps in both tanks and they are putting out gas...checked inertia switch and its not tripped...replaced ignition module...now waiting on new eec4 engine control module...starter turns engine over strong so i guess solenoid is ok...wow...about $360. In parts so far...but no dealer will touch this truck and if and dealer or shop would i would be out of far more than just $350... so i am okay going this route
Sounds like it's been an ordeal! Please keep updated hear like to hear the outcome. Just a question. Did you check ahead of time whether it was a fuel...or fire issue?? Simple start fluid or gass down the induction system then see if it will fire off the bottle. Just pull fuel pump fuse first to prevent flooding! Let me know what happens.
I don't remember what the code was. As it was some time ago. But I would think. The code was related to the sensor that was bad. Honestly don't REMEMBER. Sorry
That's the thing... As I recall. It was getting spark. I evrn replaced the distributor. And it seemed to be getting fuel. BUT would cut out once up to temp. So turned out it was Coolant temp sensor telling the computer incorrect temp. So it was adjusting fuel and trimming for one temp when it was ANOTHER temp which was enough to not let the engine restart.. Though it took some time to figure everything out. Lol I don't even own that truck any more. Lol. Got a 91 WITH A 300 IN IT NOW.
I have changed my coolant sensor 3 times in 2 weeks. Every time it runs great for 2-3 days then same crap again. Eventually it won’t even crank anymore.
Hmmmm. That's odd.. won't crank? As in kill the battery?? I'm wondering if you have a wiring issue between the sensor and computer. Have you tried unplugging battery let it sit then hook back up after say thirty min to see if it reacts the same way?? Could be another issue that's being temporary fixed each time when you power down to replace the sensor!
@@bmaiceman I have a 94 Flareside with 302 and 4R70W. Bought it with 164,000 miles. Now has 243,000. Truck has always been sluggish and always seemed like something was going on. But since it got me around I didn’t really worry much about it. Suddenly it died at idle, so i changed the IAC valve. Right after that it ran fine for a few days and went to hard starting. So I changed the TPS and it worked for a while. Then out of nowhere it wouldn’t start at all. So i did the temp sensor thing. Also the water pump started leaking from weep holes. So i put a new pump, thermostat, and hoses. Changed injectors and she ran like new. Then suddenly it would misfire and under load would fall on its face. Then would not crank again. So changed the temp sensor again and ran fine. Then a few days later it would start over again. I checked ignition module, timing, coil, ecu, and pip. All fine as far as I could tell. Checked continuity between harness and ecu. I thought it may be a short to ground, but never found anything. Not saying I didn’t miss something…. I know i have to change regulator and fuel filter. Also going to change plugs. Will also redo all vacuum lines as two of those broke yesterday when i was moving stuff out of the way to check connections on the injectors. I get an intermittent CEL but it comes and goes. Only thing it says is EGR flow malfunction. Probably due to compressor being bypassed. And honestly that has been the case for over a year. It only throws that code when this other stuff started. And it will crank but won’t start. I misspoke previously.
In my opinion the fuel injection system was horrible on these trucks. That huge aluminum plenum covering everything was just a bad design. It was used on the 300 sixes and the V8's. Not sure what the designers were thinking.
Good information and good persistence in solving the problem. Good to let us know about all your false starts and how you finally solved the problem. A little too much talking. If you could learn to make your videos somewhat more concise and to the point, they would be more watchable. This 13 minute video should have been about 6 minutes. Nevertheless, good video and you got your valuable information out there. Thank you!

I have a 95 ford f150 won't start after driving for awhile then shut it off and after 15 minutes won't start again and I replaced the fuel filter and temperature control module sensor and it still won't start after driving awhile
I'm not sure u still have the truck but I think it's still has a problem, cause your voltage gauges is dropping.... LOL now it doesn't look like much but you may have a faulty ground and do like my truck did and shutdown the truck LOL trying to self retire. Can't have that yet but anyways later dude and yes my grammar sucks and IDK whatever later
No I don't have this truck anymore. It's been gone a number of years. It was mine and my friends. He traded it off. I did however locate the issues and repair them. I'm driving an older 91 F150 XLT LARIAT now. 4.9 engine

A little long winded, but good info, thanks,
Its not just running. It run great.
Have a 1990 F-150 302 love it.
What was the diagnosic error code?
I don't remember what the code was. As it was some time ago. But I would think. The code was related to the sensor that was bad. Honestly don't REMEMBER. Sorry
Clearing the code would have started the engine if what you say is true.
Was in not getting spark or fuel
That's the thing... As I recall. It was getting spark. I evrn replaced the distributor. And it seemed to be getting fuel. BUT would cut out once up to temp. So turned out it was Coolant temp sensor telling the computer incorrect temp. So it was adjusting fuel and trimming for one temp when it was ANOTHER temp which was enough to not let the engine restart.. Though it took some time to figure everything out.
Lol I don't even own that truck any more. Lol. Got a 91 WITH A 300 IN IT NOW.
Good stuff! Start with the codes;-) Great advice.
Iam going to check my truck I have the same exact probrem
Oil presure low
Thanks lots of help
Good job bud, thanks.
Thank you!
Yep
I hope my 1986 Ford F-150 Starts after changing that sensor
We well I have an 84 F150 straight 6 4 speed and I've got a lot of a lot of wiring and it's not getting a spark to the coil how can I find out what the problem is going to fix it
I have a 95 ford f150 won't start after driving for awhile then shut it off and after 15 minutes won't start again and I replaced the fuel filter and temperature control module sensor and it still won't start after driving awhile
Looks like youre almost out of gas!
Ur oil pressure looks very low
Test
blaa blaa blaa.... whats the answer!
thx man
Crap they test s.... for me at.auto zone
Thx for reppin Turtle house! Free Penny Lane Ippolito from DHS in Fort Collins Colorado! Xxam shop with me. Yt Short 🛸🐢♥️,,,,

⁷uh uh&n nyo km kip huh
What??
I'm not sure u still have the truck but I think it's still has a problem, cause your voltage gauges is dropping.... LOL now it doesn't look like much but you may have a faulty ground and do like my truck did and shutdown the truck LOL trying to self retire. Can't have that yet but anyways later dude and yes my grammar sucks and IDK whatever later
No I don't have this truck anymore. It's been gone a number of years. It was mine and my friends. He traded it off. I did however locate the issues and repair them. I'm driving an older 91 F150 XLT LARIAT now. 4.9 engine
