Excellent series of vds, thank you. One wk ago I bought one of this radios, I could not pass this deal and the radio work find on RX & TX (with my 11 mtr antenna), I also bought an antenna and set it up (EFHW 10-80 meters) a week after I bought the radio, so I was very excited to use it. Once I was done installing the antenna, the display did NOT turn on, only the light on the meter came on but not the display, no RX or TX. Do you know if this radios have an internal fuse?? The radio still has the glue in VCO5 but is not as dark like the one in your vd. Could the internal round battery give that problem?? None of the lights on the MODE/KEY work, no sound out of the speaker either. Thanks for letting us know about the solvent used to remove the glue (that's a life saver info) .
It's possible it's the internal battery , But it does seem like that's a lot of issues or problems though , Ide start by taking some voltage readings , Make sure you have the correct voltages from the various voltage regulators first off ...... It's possible it could be dry solder joints due to age , Bad connectors , Or possible it's down to the electrolytic capacitors , These age and you could have one or more that have high ESR ..... These are all issues Ide look into .
Good video thanks a lot. Is the glue cause a lowless power. My ts440 have 40-50watt out power and a few minutes later (maybe a little hour) I can have 5-6w out power? Is it the glue? (Excuse my English, I am French)
I've pretty much given up on mine after spending hours and hours scraping glue and replacing parts. But now I see how much glue is inside the tunable coil I might give it another shot. What is the solvent you used?
I've been removing what we call planned obsolesce glue out of many Japanese radios for years.Hope they didn't use that glue on the 4VCO's NØPXJ

I doubt if the clue is the cause of your issue with low power output, The Glue causes issues with the VCOS .

521 Thinners , I just dabbed some on a few times with a artist paint brush untill the glue was soft enough to be removed .
