- Superyacht Katara is one of the largest yachts in the world. Ranked 14th by length, but ranked higher by volume. Her estimated cost price is USD 300 million. She was built by Lurssen for Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani. Sheikh Hamad was Emir of Qatar until June 2013. The current Emir of Qatar is his fourth son Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.

Indeed, this yacht was moored just of the southern coast of Corfu near Agios St George and seemed to be guarded by goons on jet skis. I was impressed by the way the locals ignored it.

The upside of super yachts is the employment created to build and maintain such beasts. Unlike expensive art where the only people who profit are the dealers and sellers.

In a rough storm at sea does that big lip/platform at the back not drag the boat down when it is smashed onto by tons upon tons of water and prevent the boat rising back up after being swamped by a large wave?

Qatar is the Richest country in the world as per GDP of US $ 138,000.00. It's local jobless citizens are given an allowance of US $ 5,000.00 while those working inshore are given a salary of US $ 10,000.00 and those working offshore are given a salary of US $ 15,000.00.

You failed to add that there are only (as of 2018) 313,000 Qatari citizens!!!!! That may be why they get all that they do.

Wow. Big yachts that are for wealthy people. It very expensive. My aunt and uncle own yacht. I would like ride there. I never been on yacht before. Are all yachts dock out in California, Florida and other states?

I saw this today in southern France. It really was quite a presence in the bay.
She was anchored off Falmouth a week ago. Rare to see a yacht of this size (124m) in my home waters.

Whats the betting that the Emir has never travelled on this yacht but flies to whatever port he has ordered the vessel to meet him when he then will use the vessel for a few days before he jets off again.

Why do people with cameras which have zoom lenses feel they have to be constantly zooming in & out ? It's very distracting & shows a basic lack of planning as to what shots you want !

Mystery solved. The blue hulled yacht next to Katars is named "Sarafsa". She is 269 feet in length, steel hulled with an aluminum superstructure. She is owned by Fahd bin Sultan of the House of Saud. As of this writing he is 62 years old and the govenor of Tabuk Province, Saudi Arabia.
The reason this was curious is due to Sarafsa sitting so high in the water, she looks comparable in size to Katara - she is not. Katara is in excess of 400 feet, where Sarafsa is a "mere" 269 feet.

If you researched this I'm sure you are correct. However, side by side, counting decks above the swim platforms, Kattara has one less deck than her neighbor. The neighbor looks quite a bit larger from the angles this video provide. I see little difference in height out of the water, not more than a foot. Comparing hawse holes they sit at the same height, but the neighbor has one extra deck. By now both of these are probably on the "B" list.

These are supernice vessels but one thing would bother me as an owner.: All those staff members on your ship you are never alone and you would not be able to move this boat an single inch by your own. You are pretty much imprisoned and helpless in your yacht like in a golden cage. Thats why i would prefer a much smaller boat.
For one, they of course have smaller also.... But, you need a crew quite fast. And, if you wish you will have your privacy on these bigger yachts for sure. The personal have their own entrances and compartments and will work in rooms you are not in and in times you are not active. And not to forget, these people have always personal surrounding them, personal assistants, etc.

Not only that most of the crew will be special services ie highly trained fighters and in any SHTF situation they all of a sudden DONT NEED YOU so over the side you go with your squalid family.A new leader would emerge onboard and your history so the idea that you could sail to some safe haven in any worldwide conflict simply doesn't work you would fear for your life and safety more onboard that thing than on dry land where at least you stand a chance of escape.
Since this Yacht is currently in Corfu island, Greece, let me inform you about this Fun fact: The name "Katara" has a very negative and scary meaning in Biblical & Modern Greek language. It actually means... *Curse* 😨😨😨

The ship is powered by four MTU V16 to provide ample Pussy Magnet.
If that was Privately owned and not considered state owned it might have ranked in top 5 when finished now barely in top 15. However it is bigger than most in displacement and I am sure it ranks higher in gross tonnage. Never mind I think his son has a bigger one if I have not confused him with someone else it is easy to get confused with all the Kings and Emirates and Princes. LOL I think it is bigger but hard to keep up with Middle Eastern owned yachts. I am sure this does not even include the Missile defense system..lol

The only drawback to yachts that are built for the rich Arabs and other rich Muslims, et.al. is that they don't have swimming pools and many don't even have Jacuzzis .
Not even the Azzam has a pool.
The Serene has/had one of the most beautiful indoor/outdoor pools and as soon as the crown prince of KSA bought it, he sent it in for a retrofit.
Considering who he is and his father is, I'm betting that pool is removed or has a permanent floor installed over it.
