Best of luck on your journey. Please handle your debt yourself over a debt relief company....they are notorious for dragging out payments and you can be successful doing it on your own! Also, when negotiating with creditors...NEVER give them access to any of your account info and ALWAYS get the settlement agreement in writing BEFORE making a payment...no matter how enticing the reduction! Once you have the agreed upon offer in writing then pay them! Wishing you well!
I'm so so sorry for all you've gone through! I totally understand the compulsion to both eat and spend to fill the voids. I went through a similar situation when my sister passed 7 years ago and got myself into a deep hole that I couldn't get out of. It wasn't bankruptcy but it was one of those "debt relief" companies you mentioned at the very end of your video, they gave me the same advice that your lawyer gave you so I stopped paying my bills. Everything got charged off and they then negotiated new rates for me. My credit tanked and I paid thousands in fees. I would definitely recommend staying away from them!! I know it's going to be a long road but I'm looking forward to following you on it!
Thank you for sharing! I almost signed up with freedom debt relief but something just didn't feel right about it. So glad I listened to my gut! Thank you for your support!!
I don’t know why you came up in my feed but I am glad to find you! Thanks for your honesty and courage to post. I have a question. Are you addressing your underlying reasons for overspending? I would think that would be super important in order to keep from repeating this scenario again. I am happy you seem to have a supportive spouse and I want to encourage you for taking control of your situation. You are smart and determined and you will figure it out! Many hugs and I look forward to an update!
I know you aren’t looking for sympathy but from a mom who has daughters spanning from 22-36, I felt all the mom emotions listening to your story and I’m here to applaud you. The steps you took weren't easy but you took the first one. I’m glad Miko crossed your sight line bc I am a big fan of her. Help without judgment; wisdom and compassion. So here’s to you! 👏🏼 🥂 💕
I'm so sorry you had to go through all of this!! It really burns me up that real life budgeting and financing isn't taught in public schools. It's one of the most important essential life skills for everyone to have! I'm happy for you finding your own way to gain the knowledge to turn it all around. I know its going to be hard and take a good bit of time, especially with inflation, to get out of it; but know that seeing the problem is the first step and you're on the right track. I think the budget mom is great and I'm glad she is a resource for others. I personally don't use her system as my budget system involves more of sinking fund style with the 70/20/10 paycheck % split. In fact, I haven't seen anyone on TH-cam budget the way I do. I think the trick is to set the budget for everything including the unexpected and stick to it 100% and slowly the debt go aways and the savings goes up. About 9 months ago, my husband changed jobs twice and our income got cut by 2/3; so it was a big adjustment especially in the grocery department our budget in now $400 a month for 2 adults and 2 teen boys. It's hard but we're working it. I make everything from scratch and buy a whole cow once a year. It is quite amazing what you can save when you tell yourself you have too or at least that's how it is for me. With our new family budget, we have saved just over $3000 in 3 months not counting our sinking funds,(which are regular used and replaced ie car insurance paid every 6 months, clothes, kids activity, ect. I pretty much make all spending categories a sinking fund). I know that doesn't sound like much; but for one income family of 4 living on $3000-$4000 a month is a pretty good amount of savings to me. I guess I should mention we are also debt free and have been for many years, but not always we take loans out for cars when absolutely needed and use credit cards like debit card and pay the current balance in full every months. I like using them for convenience and cash back rewards, but it does take diligent budgeting to do so. You'll get there I just know it. Keep your head up and climbing the debt free mountain and you'll get to the top and feel so good to be of it all! Best wishes Happy Budgeting!
Hey Cheyenne, thank you for sharing this. I remember having 15+ credit cards. My credit card payments were larger than my mortgage payment at the time. I did consolidate all of them at one point but then did it all over again. My second time around I closed all my credit cards except for one with a very small credit limit. You guys will come out on top because you are determined and have a plan.🙏🏼😊❤
I am mentally hugging you so hard. I recognize a lot of myself in your situation. I struggle with impulsive spending too and have racked up considerable high interest credit card debt. It feels incredibly lonely. But, I found you and thank you so much for you transparency. I look forward to watching your journey and hopefully by this time next year, we are both in the positive. Thank you so much.
Go you! Way to take so much responsibility. Thank you for giving us an update. I think you’re really brave and it sounds like you’re doing the best you can. Your best is good enough. Keep going. ❤️
First time video watcher here. I applaud you for your honesty of your story. Hang in there, you will get through this storm. From someone who has walked the same path but a bit bumpier (2 repos and a foreclosure) I promise as long as you stick to your plan you will come through it and be back on your feet. Best wishes from a new subscriber.
You did a great job explaining 💜 I didn’t think you rambled at all🙂 Thank you for sharing. 🙏We all live and learn and you are helping others by sharing. Sending good vibes your way💜I just discovered the budget mom in November of last year and have had a never ending continued debt of 37k for past 7 years! It’s shameful for me to think about. But just like you, coming to realization that something has to change. Please keep us updated in your journey 🧸🙏
Hi Cheyenne! You’re so brave. A lot of people will tell you how to spend but not how to payoff debt. I’m sure you’re not alone and I will follow along as a supporter. 😊
Hey! I appreciate your transparency about debt. It’s not easy to share. You’re right you can do what you would pay the debt payoff companies to do. You got this! 🌻💜
You can do this!! I do always wonder about the people featured on budget mom, I wish things had not gotten so much worse for you ❤ You have a good plan, best of luck!!!!
You are very brave to put it all out there! I wish the best for you on your journey and with your health. We all have issues we are dealing with. Thanks for sharing. ❤
The lawyer needs to be reported to the Bar Association in your capital city. The attorney has most likely did others this way, and people just let things go. I’m so sorry that you have to go through all of this. I was ashamed of my debt when I began. I’m not ashamed anymore. I figured it was mine, and not to worry about anyone except God. I did my budget the way I wanted, and the debt started disappearing. I’ll be following you. Have a blessed day ❤❤❤
I actually read the comments from the video and they were not bad. I hope that you both sit down and seriously plan how you will attack the debt with commitment to clearing it. Determine what your why is and always prioritize sacrificing the elimination of those things that are adding to the debt or robbing you of the commitment. You all can do this with pure focus and a stringent plan. Remind yourself that the temporary sacrifice is far less weight than the ongoing compounded problem of interest on those debts.
After I made this video, someone actually recommended I go and read the comments. I was definitely happy and surprised at how supportive people were. I beat myself up all these years about what people thought. 🙃
New Subscriber, thank you for sharing this it will help more of us than you know. Something to think about while dealing with charge offs. Accounts will not show on credit report after 7 years so think about trying to pay off the most recent charge off first.
Do you have a budget for your current spending life style; something Budget Mom like? A list of your debt is a good first step. It seems as if a good second step is a budget to first identify where you are currently spending and then begin to intentionally allocate where/ what you are spending on. (I count savings, financial goals including extra debt payments, sinking funds, etc.. as spending.) The third step is to hone in on making the income do what you want it to do then adjusting your spending life style to accomplish what it needs/ you want it to do. Dollars to doughnuts, this is going to require some frugality, less spending on today's need and wants, a meal plan, some sinking funds, and with what appears to be your debt reduction journey approach some savings towards debt payoffs. A number of the assorted budgeting channels have a zillion sinking funds which number 1, spreads the money too far to accumulate enough to spend for thier purposes; its a cash flow related thing. Number 2, when youre head over heels in debt it takes money away from debt reduction which is the only way you are going to return money to the budget.
Hi Terry! Thank you so much for stopping by! I definitely need to get back into tracking our spending penny for penny. I got super down and kind of gave up, but I'm dusting myself off again. Hoping to be caught back up by the end of April. Also hoping to get back into cash stuffing.
Can you call the bar or whoever and report that lawyer?? Thank God you stayed away from that debt freedom place! You got this 🤗 we are all struggling just at different levels
I am so sorry about your situation with the lawyer. I filed 5 years ago and paid a lawyer 1500 the thought of him running off never even crossed my mind. 😢
Why are you paying a charge off?….. just let it go, build an emergency fund and keep living! And STOP SPENDING. Debt isn’t your problem SHOPPING is your problem!

Good for you for taking responsibility for your actions. Have you thought of incorporating some of the budget mom’s advice?
I definitely plan to now. I was stuck in avoidance for a long time. But thats over with now !
How did I miss this video?
Just subbed ❤

Why are you paying a charge off?….. just let it go, build an emergency fund and keep living! And STOP SPENDING. Debt isn’t your problem SHOPPING is your problem!
If it was charged off, the companies have already taken a tax break . I hate to say it but consult another lawyer .
Hey Hey 👋🏽👋🏽I 10000% believe you two will get through this. 🫂
Thank you so much 🤗
Thank you for sharing your story. 🩷
Thanks for listening !!! ❤️❤️
