    \\\\\ PROJECT SPECIFIC STUFF \\\\\
    Now the question is, how do I make the stupidly repetitive process of handcrafting 1,000 pencils interesting? I still don't know the answer to that and the video is already live, but I'm up for the task! In total I made 6 different pencil design, all from over a dozen different species of pallet wood. I found some really fun species in this batch too which gave me great colors to play with including butternut, moranti, sweetgun, and some stuff I haven't even identified yet. Strap in and enjoy the ride that is the most pointless project ever (I figure if I at least acknowledge that, it'll make it a little better and maybe make people look beyond the surface of what the project is to realize the deeper meaning of what it's actually about....... or not).

    @5:07 I picked up a little tip that most will miss about spinning the table saw blade backwards to check to see if it is centered. Thank you for the tip.

    As an occupational therapist I taught “handwriting without Tears” for 30 years. Oh the children would have loved your video and pencils. One thing I taught the children was to trade out pencils when their hands got tired. The change in weight or shape gave them relief. Thanks

    I have watched more TH-cam than I care to admit to but I can honestly say this is the first video that I have watched the entire way through just in utter amazement, not only or your skills, great sense of fun and video editing but dedication, who makes a 1000 pencils! (mind blown) when you started planing them one by one I thought "no, he is not going to plane them all, surely" I figured you would have a sanding jig that you just dropped them in, so glad you did not hand paint them all, but I would not have been surprised if you had. I actually went out pencil shopping today. you have a new subscriber sir.

  • @Craftswright
    @Craftswright 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Whoa OK so 2.5 minutes per pencil planing, times 1,000 pencils, divided by 60 minutes....41 hours (24 pencils per hour) alone just shaping the pencils! 🤯😳 my hat's off to you my friend, great build!

    Holy hell that's a lot of work. I was wondering how you were gonna get the hexagon shape. That jig is awesome. And your editing skills are great. I don't think most people understand how much work it is to line up cuts to the beat of the music. You just earned yourself a subscriber Sir. Lets see what else you got.

    First time watching watching your video. I thought you were just another guy with woodworking as a hobby, but I see you - like me - have a hobby of making saw dust. When I saw you're finishing each pencil by hand, I literally said "Get outta here" out loud. Good stuff, my friend. Good stuff
    Erm.. I see that I'm already subscribed, I guess it's not the first time I'm watching your videos

  • @plsmithed
    @plsmithed 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I did the maths.. if you averaged 2 minutes 35 seconds per pencil just planing in the Jig, for 1000 pencils, that's a little over 43 hours of JUST planing!! You are a saint Paul

    At approximately 3 minutes per pencil just to shape them on the jig it'll take 6.25 days at 8hrs a day non stop. That's not even including all the work that went into the rest of the build! Holy cow man, that is dedication... "Why do I do this to myself?" indeed!

    • @JackmanWorks
      @JackmanWorks  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Why did you have to do that? I was trying not to do the math! Although now that I think of it, 3x1,000 isn't that hard
