    I have the Shure SE215 (a cheaper version of the SE535), and they're fantastic just for listening to music but also have great sound isolation for drumming. The foam eartips make a great seal that blocks out sound from drums, and sound from your environment when just listening to music. If you're not interested in super expensive in-ears or custom ones, they're a great choice.

    Great video, would have saved me many hours of research way back when. Though I'd mention that when I was Just starting out and didn't want to spend a ton but liked the in ear monitors I bought the meelectronics pro music monitors from Amazon, clearly inferior quality to your examples but for the price you get memory foam tips that do a great job of isolating and even though it's single driver (I believe) it's still a decent sounding practice option.

    Very edifying video. One question, do you have any recommendations on headphones that would be used with Roland VDrums to get the best sound out of the electronic kit? I'm currently using Koss UR-30 which work pretty well, my only issue with them is where they sit on my head gets sweaty really fast.

    I just recently bought a pair of wireless 535’s cause I was able to get 20% off, they do plenty enough to isolate me from my drums when I play and they’re comfortable, but I’m so used to my around the ear Sennheisers that the Shure’s basically feel like they have so little low end and especially sub bass.
    I can still return and if I don’t grow to love them, I already plan to because like you said, they’re expensive; but do you have a good idea for what in ears to get if the 535’s are pretty good for me except for needing more of a low end soundstage.
    I was looking at the Westone B50’s because I prefer to be wireless if possible, but I heard those B50s are only Bluetooth 4.0 instead of being updated like the newer Shure BT2 that has Bluetooth 5.0.
    I checked out the manufacturer of yours, but the Qi is no longer on the site and their cheapest 4 driver is more expensive now, so is it worth it at this point especially compared to the Westone B50s that have 5 drivers each for about the same price?
    I’d love your input because I don’t have a ton of experience with IEMs and drumming, I’m still barely 18 months into getting my whole kit.
    I’d love your feedback and the guys at Drumeo as well. I’m signed up on edge under my same name.

    Hello, I run a home studio, and my drummer always complains about the phones. He´s never satisfied. He wants big loudspeakers next to him in order to hear and "feel" the heavy sound of the band. He finds the earphone´s sound too low and thin. I tested with many different earphones, and I don´t know what to do. I can´t use loudspeakers while recording. It looks like he has a hearing problem. He justifies by saying that he wants to hear and feel people around him. Every earphone I tested, he finds low and thin. I use a Behringer Powerplay Pro XL as the phones amplifier. I even burned one of the earphones trying to achieve the power he finds it´s the optimum. Now, I seek a robust very high power earphone for drummers, in order that he "feels" he´s on stage, what do you suggest ?

    Im old now. I play guitar but am visually impaired. I used regular old earplugs for a long time but still have that constant ringing. Its important to mention i was a stage electrician when i could see. Lately i am using those fender earplugs that are volume reducing but not muffling but my ears still ring after playing. I have not tried over ear protection. I do prefer over ear headphones for music and it makes it obvious that im ignoring everybody. Im looking at drum phones because i live next to a train crossing and its loud

      The headphones get plugged into your monitor control which ties into the entire system. This allows you to fine tune your listening experience. You are able to individually turn up and down each musician as well as the vocalist.

    I use Audio-Technica ATH-M40fs "studiophones" because they're loud, sound great, and were very reasonably priced. Years later, the plastic coating on the ear pad things comes off in flakes. It's everywhere. They don't make as good of a seal anymore... but hey. I still own them, I'll still use them. I'll probably also use ear plugs as well as... drums are loud, mmkay.

    I've got some SE215s, and they are great.
    But, there is a LOT of handling noise, whenever i move my head (and even a lot of 'ear noise' when my head is totally still), to the point where I have to have it uncomfortably loud to properly hear music over the sound of the wire moving around on my head.
    I want to get vic firth's isolation headphones to wear on top of them, because drum spill is also an issue for me, but I don't know if that's going to help or if they will just make my 215s rustle around more and make everything louder. Any ideas?

      Hi, I am a drummer and I use custom molded in ears by Tunz (Starkey) and I put on top the Vic Firth isolation headphones. It's a good idea to isolate as much as possible from the outer noise... but I put inside the Vic Firth's heavy isolation membrane + HD Foam. The Vic Firth's isolation headphones are not isolating too much out of the box. Hope it helps.

    I have the Beyerdynamic's he mentioned in the video and their sound isolation is PRETTY good, and comfort is incredible!!! I'm still however, looking for even MORE isolation than the Beyer's. Anyone out there know of something quieter than the Beyerdynamic DT-770-M-80?? I know they're way up there in terms of noise reduction, but I'd still like even more DB reduction for use in my home studio. I'm trying to avoid custom moulded IEM's, just because of the price increase... I'd like to try and stay around the $250 range.

    • @Panhd
      @Panhd 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do your Beyer's move around as much as the Pearl's mentioned in this video? I play drums also and am looking for headphones with good isolation, but I don't want them moving around all over my head while playing causing a different distraction for me.

    • @DanielDossey
      @DanielDossey 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, they don't at all. They're very comfortable, sound great and don't move! The only things I've had a problem with is, there's a volume control on the cord... I don't want that getting bumped during a show, so I taped it in position with electric tape and it works/looks fine. Also, I bought them because they're supposed to be one of the best sets of headphones available in terms of isolation from outside noise, but to me... they're still not quiet enough inside the ears. I don't know what other options there are for something quieter other than custom molded in-ears, so I guess these are the headphones I'd recommend for most drummers.
      Hope this helps.

    What I found out using multiple headphones is that earbuds no matter how good will not be able to achieve the proper frequencies needed for electronic drums, the over ear tend to be overly bassy which in some cases it is not good because they get muddy, the closest headphones that are usable are 40 mm drivers from Sony.

    I have a hard time believing those 1964 in-ears cancel out more sound than the Vic Firth isolation headphones, can you really bet your money on that statement? I would love to buy a pair of the 1964's but I'm reluctant for that one reason. I like to play super loud gospel chops or death metal style drums but I have yet to find any type of headphone that cancels out enough sound to not hurt my ears other than the Vic Firths, and even those hurt a bit after hours of playing. I'm looking for phones that I can practice in with maximal sound-proofing above all else but also ones where I can listen to the mix as I'm playing and still have decent quality sound. What do you think I should get based on what I'm looking for? 1964's still seem like the best bet but I don't know.. any help would be greatly appreciated and thanks for the video man!

    • @DanielDossey
      @DanielDossey 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Custom moulded IEM's DO have a great amount of noise reduction or "attenuation." DEFINITELY more so than the Vic Firth's. I've used the VF isolation headphones before (a long time ago), and was not impressed. Maybe it was the complete lack of comfortability that I'm remembering most about them, but I don't think you're going to have a hard time beating the Firth's in terms of sound isolation.
