Or maybe not, have you had one?… or tried one?… I’m petite and this past summer I bought one by mistake , thinking it was at the waist… Big mistake let me tell you.
@@BEABE4242 im petite too.. and I'm a seamstress. I recognize when the design of a dress is meant to be right at the waist and when it's not. I sew my own dresses specially because of what happened to you. It happens to me too. The design is pretty, but I have to disassemble, take in in calculated places of the pattern, and assemble it again to make the design fit my body as it meant to be. Low waisted dresses can be spotted just by looking at the picture of the model..😉
Did I miss something? 'Low waist dress' used to refer to flapper-style frocks, with waists at hip-level. That's not what you've shown here. If these dresses are 'low waist', what do natural waist dresses look like?
I had a low waist dress in 1960. It was black on top with a low waisted black and white polka dot skirt. This is somewhat similar to the PRINCESS WAIST which was a beast to find on Google. They came up with a host of Empire waist frocks. I finally found a few on Etsy. The princess waist dips to a point in the front and the back.
Even as a tall lady with long legs I can’t wear those dresses, because of my pear shaped body. Those dresses are emphasizing the hips - a no go unfortunately. I do like dresses so I hope, there will be other options. And others here are right: a flat tummy is crucial!
You are absolutely correct that this may not work for every proportion. Not every unflat belly falls the same way that can be draped with a drop waist. Come to think of what I just expressed it's a contradicts the video.
@@GabrieleAnna To correct a pear shaped body it is very very easy to add shoulder pads. In one second the figure is corrected and the whole look is more dynamic, more youthful. Inexpensive trick.
Drop waists work on thinner women. If you are heavier and carrying weight around the hips, the drop waist looks horrible. It brings attention to a portion of your figure you might not be happy with. However, if you are thin or even of medium build, the drop waist can elongate your figure. I agree with the comments below. Many of these dresses are not drop waist. Some of them are column dresses, with no defined waistline. Some of them are natural waist. One dress in particular has a belt at the natural waist and pleats that come at the low waist.
I’m short wasted so elongating my waist works but I agree with you about women with longer torsos. Also, if you have a larger bust with a short waist it puts some distance between your bust and waist. You don’t want to have a belt right under a large bust unless you want to emphasize your bust.
Virtually all dresses sold in America are made for very short waisted women. The 1920s dresses had no waist. The belts and sashes were around the hips. And made everyone look like they had fat hips
So glad you liked it! 😊 Try high-waisted pieces or layering to balance your silhouette. You can adapt this style to your body shape and look fabulous! 💖
Love these dresses. If we could only get them in the right colors, it would be perfect. No point having your colors done if no one sells clothes in soft summer or bright winter.
This style of dress shown (definitely not low waist as others have noted) has been around for a number of recent years in the UK. It is a staple style that does not date.
In the 60’s some of my dresses were low waisted with pleats. I liked it a lot. The 2025 style of low waisted is different, it’s more elegant looking than in the 60’s.
As a sewest this is NOT LOW WAISTED! This is click bait! Most of These dresses are at waist or 1”or 3” below natural waist! This is known as as a “elongated waist” come on do your research!
I have been unable to wear fitted dresses and one piece swimsuits since I was 11 years ild. Because ALL dresses sold in America have extremely short waisted bodices. These dresses are normal waisted dresses.
These are not drop waist dresses. Drop waists trended in the eighties when I sewed almost all my clothes. Most of these hit at the natural waist or are princess cut. But...the headline, misleading though it is, made me want to pull out my old dress patterns.
Thank goodness they have finally got rid of the baby doll dresses that have dominated the fashion industry for last thirty years where there was absolutely no imagination shown in that long period
I subscribe just now your vlog is very nice interesting \ you deliver it quite good not boring \ some people talk express ...it in different slow ..timing yours full of life ...can easily understand..thank you ❤
The real secret of a low waist dress is to not have an apple figure where you carry excess weight at your waistline. A low waist dress just enhances that.
Thanks for the video. However, I don't get it. At least 90% of the dresses you have shown here are sitting right at the waist, and not on the hips. So they definitely do not qualify to be referred to as low waist dresses.
Why would anyone want to elongate their torso so it looks like you have a three mile torso, and equal little legs? The drop waist is an interesting look, but it is never flattering. Im not against low waists, but I have to admit you have really helped me define why they are so ugly. I think Ill just wear slightly oversized things to show off a tiny bit of lowered waist, or else forget it all together.
Don't call it low. It's what is normal. The higher waste is horrible. So many beatiful dresses I had to skip because the waist is too high and it is wrong. I can't see myself wearing them. They just distort body proportion
Well this is very disappointing news. That style of dress looks excellent and wonderful on women who are thin or appropriate weight. But, if you’re over weight, you can forget all about wearing that style because it’s not going to fit you right as your stomach pushing against the front will make you look not only fat or actually fatter but will also make you look like you’re a sloppy dresser and desperately trying to fit into clothes that are several too sizes small for you. The front of the waist line is going to lift up high because of your stomach thereby ruining the perfection that the dress was supposed to do for you. What will people notice first about you if your overweight in a dress that fitted around the waste? The will see a huge stomach sticking out making you look even bigger than you are. I really wish I wasn’t overweigh. People who carry their weight on their bottom and thighs probably can get away with this dress but once the fat hits the stomach, it’s all over. They are beautiful dresses though.
I love fashion from head to toe. But age came and I use medication that made me gain 40 pounds. Try looking for beautiful clothing to fit and make you fell amazing. If you can tell of the designer that make clothing that’s not a die 4. Blessings
these are NOT drop waist dresses, and this style does NOT exemplify the drop waist dress worn in the 1920's in any way, shape or form. This video is not worth watching.

Absolutely ! These dresses are not at all low waist dresses, the waist is at waist level (except of course on a short and fat woman !)

You are absolutely right. Low waist dresses were fashionable in the 1920s-1930s. The person who made the video has no idea.
@@katia2319 No, Princess line is with a wide skirt.
I agree. These are not all low waist dresses.
These dresses are waisted with a wide skirt (1950-60s style), absolutely not low waist (1920-1930s style).
Most of the dresses shown are not drop waist! The drop waist style has a waist at the top of the hips or lower.
I just came back from Doha and Abu Dhabi and many girls, late teens to twenties, are wearing mid-calf dresses. Very classic look with a simple heel.
A drop waist dress starts one to two inches below the waist usually ending in a small point center front. Very flattering.
Absolutely none of those dresses looks low-waist to me!

« Having your colors done » ? Is not a woman intelligent enough to judge which colors suit her and which do not ?

Where do you buy these dresses
In our house in the late ‘70s, we called them Princess waist dresses. ❤️
Those of us with an enlarged tummy will look ridiculous in this dress !

If one is 'pear shaped', wouldn't a low waist dress accentuate the hips which is an area you want to minimize?

Get it stitched..smart tailors can make it suitable for your body proportion
Wear what suits one
Not the other way
