I was really surprised a few years ago that Max Factor was actually named Maksymilian Faktorowicz a really talented Polish Jew ❤️. As a Polish girl I hope that such important iconic brand will survive as our nation survived during WW2.
I grew up in Burbank, CA and once I could drive, I’d go exploring in nearby Hollywood. (Late 80’s, early 90’s) The Max Factor museum was on Highland Ave, right near Hollywood Blvd. I took the tour, and was fascinated by what I learned. He was instrumental in color theory, at least with the idea that if you were a blonde, painting your bathroom a light pink would be the most appropriate and beautiful to your complexion and hair. Redheads would use a light green, brunettes a light blue. My grandmother was a huge fan of his, so she had her added-on bathroom done in that soft, light pink. (she was blonde) I remember using both the Pan-Stik, and Pan-Cake from MF when I was younger. Pan-Stik was thick and waxy, but moisturizing. Pan-Cake you had to use water to use it, and it covered EVERYTHING. Yes, it was obvious you were wearing makeup, but I think it benefited those in the theater and movies more. Yes, it was called color harmony! My grandmother had that same booklet!
Max factor is available in the UK still . Even still has celebrity campaigns. I use the liquid foundation daily as well as one of their mascaras and glosses.
Pan -Stick was a great foundation make up, and it smelled so good ! I remember the Hi-Fi foundation too. Yes, I would love to see this make up come back to the States !
I still have a little bit of an old one that I've had for years. Even though it expired years ago, it still works brilliantly and I'm hoarding it. One of the best ever!
I think in the late 90s maxfactor was sold to a European cosmetic company which is why you can buy it Europe. Also, in parts of Asia they import M.F. cosmetics over there. Maxfactor was a great brand and had the best foundation and mascaras. In Arabia, they have maxfactor too but only in certain Arab countries. I think Joelle Mardinian is a huge spokesperson for them in Dubai
When ever I used Max Factor foundation when I was in between 19-21 yrs old, people thought I had naturally peaches and crème complexion. The brand was truly special, and I wish they would be available today.
I hope you feature Hazel Bishop sooner or later. Many remember Estee Lauder, Elizabeth Arden and Helena Rubinstein but her and her eponymous brand are basically forgotten today. She's someone to look up to if you are into STEM.
Thank you for this video! I still use a Max Factor product, Excess Volume mascara. Only available in the UK, I have to order and then wait for it to arrive. It is worth the wait.
Great job, as always! I remember the perfumes too. I still have the bottle of Le Jardin from around 1987, and I had an English teacher in high school who wore Le Jardin D’Amour. This brand should have its own museum!
"Pan-stick" formulations are lovely; I've been using a pan-stick-type blush from Flower Beauty and I'm using a leftover pan-stick-type foundation from Clinique, which has discontinued it, though other makers have brought out similar items. They are easy to use and handy for the purse.
So Coty owns Max Factor, Covergirl, Bourjois and Rimmel. I am wondering if they pulled Max Factor out of the US and Canada because it is less competition for Covergirl. Rimmel has a much larger offering in Europe. I have always liked Bourjois and Rimmel better than Covergirl but Covergirl has come a long way. I noticed that Max Factor and Covergirl’s new releases seem similar.
As a classical dancer ….. their pan stick makeup was my first stage makeup and lasted for a long time ! I still perform at 56!yrs old . Nothing compares to it ! I miss it !also their mascara’s
Max Factor lip gloss in the gold tube is/was the best. It was healing as well for dry lips. Love their mascara and lipsticks, eyeshadows and perfume. They use to have a water based foundation that was really good, but it was discontinued. So I used Elizabeth Arden for sensitive skin it was excellent for oily skin.
Great post on an iconic makeup producer and product. With all due respect, you left out that he was Lucille Ball's official makeup artist, and his name is seen in credits of her TV shows. Lucy, her look and her icon status were right up there with Marilyn. Happy holidays. 💖🎄
Hello - In around 1985-87 Max Factor make-up was to be found in supermarkets. This Helena Rubinstein would never have allowed. The range was subsequently limited to mainly foundations. The fragrances such as Hypnotique, Electrique, Primitif, Golden Woods, Green Apple, Rapport, Maxi, etc all faded from the scene but are sought after today, even by men, as the top-notes have faded while the middle and base notes are suitable for use. Thank you.
I used to use the lasting performance foundation after seeing it was used on kate winslet in titanic. My skin is very pale and i liked how her skin looked in the movie lol. It was actually the best i had used in the early 2000's - around 2010. I used the pale porcelain shade but now they've changed the shades here in Australia so i use it cosmetics cc cream now. Plus it's cruelty free.
Features advantages and benefits are essential. IMAGES are creative signatures. LOVE who you are and create the journey forward with authentic measures..
Never realized there was a difference between "Brownette" and "Brunette". Looks like Brunette is a darker brown, while Brownette is more like a "Dirty Blonde".
Hands down MF made THE BEST eyeliner ever...Feather blend Kohliner during the late 80's and into the 1990's. To this day, I cannot find anything to equal it😥
I tired both Max factor and cover girl in the early 90s. I bought both at the grocery store (make up isle). Both brands were garbage. The makeup was barely pigmented and it just fell apart with in the hour. Trash.
I would love to see a big revamp of Max Factor. The name alone is iconic in the industry.
Me too! They totally should

He was living in Russia for some period and opened a hairdresser's in the Russian city of Ryazan but fleed to America once Jewish pogroms began.

I have worked in cosmetics for forty one years and Max Factor in the 1980,s was our number one seller
Max factor is available in the UK still . Even still has celebrity campaigns. I use the liquid foundation daily as well as one of their mascaras and glosses.
Loved the video though. Especially the vintage shots of the old pan sticks
Wish it was available in Canada
Where do you order Max Factor in the UK? My mother used Max Factor for years.
@@ann5765 you could probably google it
@@ann5765they are in most supermarkets and Superdrug, also Boots(the pharmacy chain)
I wish makeup brands would release a flashback to the 50s line

I loved max factor makeup in my teens. I remember those old Jacklyn Smith commercials "thanks Max"
I wish they would bring back max factor! Me and my cousins worked at max factor in Hawthorne CA in the summer. Miss them!
I live in the UK and the mascara of Max Factor is the best. Used them for years, and very easy to buy
Can you still get it ?
@@sarahosborne7477 Yep and they still sell the pan stick. But I use their liquid foundation daily
@@sarahosborne7477 Yeah I can I live in the UK. My local chemist has Max Factor
Another British Max Factor mascara fan right here! I live close to the city centre, so I get to shop the full range at my local bigger Boots store :)
Max Factor is in every cosmetic store in Europe
It’s gone in Canada and the USA

I loved Max Factor. Especially their makeup brushes.
Back in the late 90's, I remember using Max Factor Earth Tone lipsticks. Hope that the brand returns to stores in the future. Love the video 😍
I loved their lipsticks!
When ever I used Max Factor foundation when I was in between 19-21 yrs old, people thought I had naturally peaches and crème complexion. The brand was truly special, and I wish they would be available today.
Fascinating! Would you consider doing videos on great past makeup artists (Way Bandy, George Masters, Kevin Aucoin)?
I remember Max Factor’s magazine adds showing how it was used during 1997 Titanic film. Great memories ❤
Who would imagine by looking at him that Max was actually make up artist. He looks like a doctor or a bank manager.
That’s so true
😂😂😂

I wore Max Factor in the 1980’s.
My mom used to get the pan stick, I would use it when I got a pimple. That was the best cover up!

Max Factor died in 1939, so the "Max Factor" company was responsible for creating or providing the makeup for "I Love Lucy"..

Thanks 😊
Every time I go to Scotland I stock up on Max Factor ❤
Im UK I always get 2000 callaries by max factor and sky scraper mascaras x
Ben Nye next please.
Pan sticks are popular in funeral homes!
Omg for the makeup on dead people?
Mortician here, and yes, we use a lot of pan stick makeup.
Max Factor spells out glamour and sophistication to the woman who wears it. I believe Marilyn Monroe wore Max Factor and Revlon make up.
Yes she mentions this
I had a friend whose sister was MF’s home care/housekeeper in his late years. He left her 50,000 when he died in 1996, down payment for a house in LA.
Oh my, how generous...he must've really liked her. I wonder if they had smth beyond a professional context.
That would be Max Factor, Jr.
Anyone know where to buy max factor in the US?
I think just amazon
Max Factor is a prestigious brand that can be found all over Europe. I cannot understand this "fall" theme
It’s gone in Canada and the USA
@@Laurajaneatelier I'm glad I kept my Max Factor makeup, idk its state here where I currently am so I might stock up soon.
Max Factor created a special make up for Lena Horne for her audition for the musical film Show Boat.
Lol that huge skewer of meat at 18:35
MAX FACTOR IS STILL IN EUROPE.
sorry for the shooitng there
Max factor is available in South America 😊

Hello from Belgrade, Serbia.I've been using MF pan stick for years.
Max Factor's 2000 calorie mascara was my holy grail. i've been using it since high school. i was so upset when i couldnt get it anymore.
Their 2000 Calorie Mascara was great!
Miss Max Factor mascara.
Max Factor is available all over Australia but isn’t a popular brand.
326 south hill street is in downtown Los Angeles and it’s a hipster place
I hate the Daddy's Girl tattooed model in the newer campaigns wtf
I used to wear the pan sticks in the early 80s. The makeup was super full coverage but the colours were rubbish!

Does anyone wear that stuff any more?
