Olympus Pen-F | Bracketing Art Filters

  • In this video I explore the in-camera method of processing an image where cameras such as the Olympus Pen-F contain the ability to apply single/multiple effects to a single composition such as art filters, mono/colour profiles e.g. film simulations in-camera negating the need in some cases for any post processing.
I show the capture of the image in the field, how the camera (in my case, the Mirrorless / M43 Olympus Pen-F Digital Camera) then applies the effects and then I discuss the results straight out of camera (SOOC) (no editing) before comparing the applied effects to other images that I have taken recently with the same camera effects/profiles before discussing my favourites.
Composition and exposure are still important aspects of photography but sometimes you need help/a steer on how you could process an image or you may want to just use one of the images that the camera produces to eliminate or reduce the time that you spend in front of a computer.

Further sessions in this series will compare the results from this video's imagery to those results which can be achieved by applying effects/presets to an image through paid and free software solutions before looking at ways an image can be enhanced through more traditional editing / post processing again in free/paid for software.

Great video! Regarding Partial Colour (08:45) - when bracketing Partial Colour (e.g. Art #14) alongside 'say' Monotone', 'Vivid', and 'Diorama II', how do I then call up the colour dial to nominate the colour I want highlighted (i.e. red to make a telephone box stand out) in the photo being taken? I can do this when shooting specifically in Partial Colour mode but cannot work out how I am able to do this when Partial Colour is one of several Art modes selected in Art bracketing?

Thanks for the comment. Sorry that I can't be of any help as I sold the pen-f a while ago now.

Love the row of houses @ 12:06 !
The Pen-F is my fav monochrome camera… so many options! Try a cyan or magenta filter for various monochrome images… experiment. Those two B&W filters are NOT available on any other camera!

Thank you, the row of houses is called Gold Hill in Shaftesbury, Dorset (England) made famous here in the UK by an old bread advert (Hovis) - th-cam.com/video/w4-EjJt52ZQ/w-d-xo.html

Very interesting insights in your workflow. Thanks. I like the shot of the castle in black & white at 11:23 best but I'd give it a little more contrast manually in addition to the profile.

Thanks J, I was interested in pure out of camera images in this video but will compare the best results with other methods to process an image in later videos within this series.
