As a dude who has gotten paid by Sag in the past, I somewhat understand residuals for doing stage / movie / tv work. Your residuals are both contract based and Union based. The longer out from the project completion date, the less money a actor receives. On the flip side, social media work doesn’t, currently, have that trail off aspect. If you’re say a TH-cam partner and a video you shot 5 years ago goes viral, you’ll get paid by todays splits. That doesn’t work that way for residuals on say a syndicated sitcom. On a sitcom, your residuals become smaller and smaller as the year go by. That’s why actors try to work as often as they can to stack those residuals. If say, Martin gets wildly popular again, the owner of Martin will make a ton of money off of new network syndication deals. The actors will get residuals because the show is still in syndication, but the percentages are a lot lower. Residuals are what actors pass on to family. So having multiple successful projects stacking cash can be a great thing. What social media folks need to do is figure out how to pass ownership of content to surviving family members. As a TH-cam partner you own your footage. Therefore, if you pass, you should pass that ownership to your child, a trusted family member, or a Trust. That way, your kids can still get TH-cam checks for you content. They also can negotiate deals with interested companies regarding your content. These Facebook / TH-cam partnerships create owners of content which is lucrative for content creators. So the margins are different. Which doesn’t necessarily mean one is significantly better than the other.

Social Media residuals are different than TV series residuals. TV shows have to be picked up by a network and aired but they can go on forever. Social Media views can go on forever as well, but are dependent on views. No TV network has to pick them up. Of course video residuals stop if the SM platform tanks. So idk if one is better than the other or just different because both can be lucrative under the right circumstances and both can fail under the wrong circumstances.

Social Media residuals are different than TV series residuals. TV shows have to be picked up by a network and aired but they can go on forever. Social Media views can go on forever as well, but are dependent on views. No TV network has to pick them up. Of course video residuals stop if the SM platform tanks. So idk if one is better than the other or just different because both can be lucrative under the right circumstances and both can fail under the wrong circumstances.
