    Navarre Kayak Fishing makes a bunch of Old Town kayak accessories including the PDL drive insert replacement with a gasket already on it.

    I’m so excited to get my old town! I just sold my native because pulling the pedal drive out of the water was a pain you had to line up the propeller also I like that the old town had the dry storage built in and the under seat storage and the side pouches too even

    Thanks, Brandon for the review of the sportsman 120 PDL. Just got mine, I have taken it out once and I am very pleased with its performance. waiting for the weather to clear up so that I might take it out again.
    They are heavy but I have a trailer to pull mine, so it works great. Thanks for the info. about the speaker, I think I will get one. I thinking the Old Town Auto Pilot will be my next Kayak. Sold on the Old Town Kayaks.

    Hey Brandon congrats on the Old Town. I just received my Autopilot 120 last Saturday...Spent all of this week looking for a Yak Cart, and finally found a Malone, was able to get the kayak registered which is the law here in Florida for any motorized vessel. As soon as my cart arrives i will be ON THE WATER, haha... The layout of your pdl 120 is very similar to my Auto Pilot 120. I don't think I'd even worry about that plate being water proof. Water should go out through the scupper holes. Thanks for a great review.

    Very cool video. I've been doing my research and I believe this is the yak I will be buying. I've watched several videos, read specs on several kayaks and this seems like the best one for me.
    I say for me because someone else may have different criteria and might want Hobie or something. But the specifications most important to me this one checks all the boxes. Cheers!

    • @isenhouroutdoors8530
      @isenhouroutdoors8530  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It fit most of my check boxes! It is faster than the hobie and cheaper. Plus a lifetime warranty compared to hobies 3-5 year warranty is a no brainer!!

    • @ETuss713
      @ETuss713 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@isenhouroutdoors8530 faster than which hobie? Im no hobie fan boy or Old town, each has their pluses and minuses, butthis is not faster than an outback. If you're comparing it to a PA, maybe it is but fails at every other comparison.
      As someone who has fished out of this specific kayak, and the outback, compass, and others, the sportsman pdl is a great kayak at the price. Id take it over a Compass, but its not an outback. This kayak competes with the ss127, Compass, and propel max 12.5.

    I have this boat. Best, most comfortable, most fishable, stable and fun kayak I’ve ever owned. It’s heavy but doable to lug around solo. For freshwater and inshore guys, it’s the best in it’s class. Offshore guys should go with another option.

    Super review! I’m currently in the market for a camping kayak, and this is in my number 1 slot. I live in mid-MO so floating on streams/rivers is a huge activity - I love the insert and your idea for attaching a case to it. I am a little concerned about the lack of footrests if I have the PDL out (probably 50-75% of my projected usage will be without the drive). Do you know if anything is available aftermarket? I’d love something that is track mounted and adjustable but I don’t know where to start looking.

      Hey Keri. Thanks for the comment!! Make sure to sub if you like this type of content. Honestly I’m not sure. It doesn’t have tracks on the side where you could mount feet rests. how dry is that center hatch? I see that you put your phone in it but if the kayak filled up with water or if it flipped would your phone get wet? If that stays dry enough that could be a good place to keep your phone and car keys. where you have your keys off to the side makes me so nervous lol🤣

      @isenhouroutdoors8530  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lol yea. I was a little sloppy that day with having my daughter out there with me. But that center hatch i would imagine is pretty bone dry. You can feel the thickness and quality on the seals that's around the hatch. I'll be posting another video hopefully soon on a flipping test and will also make sure to open the hatches afterwards to show how dry they still are.

    I want the 106 powered by minn Kota. This will be my first kayak and the trolling motor is what sold me. Im use to jon boat fishing and fish myself a lot. so i want a kayak for convenience. Thing with that is I don’t wanna paddle or pedal. I’m getting it for fishing so I’m sure I can get use to the pedal but definitely not the paddle. Any advice? And I can afford them both but don’t wanna get the trolling motor if I can’t use the kayak properly.

    • @isenhouroutdoors8530
      @isenhouroutdoors8530  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good evening! Thanks for the comment. So each of the paddle/pedal and the AP kind of have their each individual uses. What I wanted in a kayak was something to fish in but also get a workout in so I went with the pedal. I wouldn’t do the paddle personally as it’s a heavier kayak and can be a little difficult to paddle however I paddle on and off myself. The AP is definitely nice however I fish some rivers as well that’s pretty rocky and you definitely wouldn’t want that AP in a shallow rocky river. That’s why I got the plate so that I can leave behind the pedal drive and just paddle when I go to rivers. Lol also that AP was a lot more expensive and I barely got the wife to be okay with the pedal drive. :). Hope that helps. I’ve heard phenomenal reviews however though regarding the AP’s.

    • @ronseguin7289
      @ronseguin7289 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The hulls are different and a little longer on the Predator. The Sportsman has the more stable gull wing hull at 12 feet. The Predator is less stable more of a V hull for cutting through bigger waves and is over 13 feet long so it's heavier and not really a car top kayak.

    • @isenhouroutdoors8530
      @isenhouroutdoors8530  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yea. I researched a ton of both of them. So the sportsman is definitely the more stable of the 2 kayaks which that was the biggest importance to me. The Predator is faster and you can get an optional console for it as well which I like however it weighs a good bit more and is a lot longer of a kayak than what I wanted. Also the stern space in the predator is smaller than the sportsman which is odd due to the predator being longer. I also do not like the rails at all on the predator series.

I know some people have complained about water coming in there but I've never really had much come through. You may have some that might seep in but hardly any to notice. The thing is is to make sure you lock it down right. Some peopel aren't locking it down all the way which can cause water to come in more.

    Hello man This was a great review you did on the kayak. I am looking to upgrade my kayak to a pedal drive and this is one of The Kayaks I'm looking at. I'm just wondering if those pedals will work for me. I have big very very wide feet. Sz14 EEEE with very fat wide toe and I'm wondering of my foot will stay on the pedal because they are so wide. I like everything else about the kayak I'm just wondering how wide are those pedals or can I order wider pedal. I appreciate you demonstrating you pedal it barefooted 👣 because that's how I have to kayak is barefooted 👣 which shows a good view of how smooth it is which is very important if you have to kayak barefooted 👣. It was cool to see how stable it was when you were standing up. I weigh the same the as you do am 260 - 265Ibs so that will work great for me. I do have one question? Where you had your crocs sitting at did you have any problems with those moving anytime while you were kayaking. I like your style Crocs you have. I used to have a pair of Crocs like those I had to cut a spot out in the toe area on each crocs for two of my toes to hang out of the Crocs just to get them to fit my wide feet. It look very funny wearing them like that but they were so comfortable and the only closed-toed shoe that would fit my foot. I don't know if my foot got wider or the Crocs shrunk but they don't fit me no more. It really sucks having very very wide feet with fat wide toe cuz it affects me getting shoes wish they don't make wide enough for my foot and kayaking because my foot won't stay on my foot brace on my kayak because they are to wide and I love to kayak. You have a great Channel sir I just found it. appreciate if you could let me know what you think those problems will work. I apologize for being so long sir. You have yourself a good one.

      SOrry for the delay in my reply. Been on vacation the past couple of weeks. So you definitely have bigger feet than me however I think the pedal would still be fine. I'll go down and measure it soon and post the dimensions of the pedal. I don't think it's an option to get a wider pedal but I could be wrong. I would contact old towns customer service to check. They've been awesome when I've called them. The crocs don't move at all in the spots i put them in. I checked around for the best place to put them and that was it. that place behind the bar to the pedal drive was also perfect for most Bluetooth waterproof speakers. No worry about the length of the comment. :). Thanks for your kind comments!! You have a great one as well. Please let me know if I can help or answer anymore questions on this kayak.

      So got those measurements for you my man. so the pedal itself where the padding is is 3 inches up and down of the pad and 3.5 inches from left to right of the pad. My foot is 4.5 inches wide at it's widest part and it feels like i have plenty of room and it's very comfortable pushing through the pedal. I think you would be good. There's nothing in the way of your foot on the outside part of each pedal so you should have several positions to position your foot to get the most comfortable.

      @@isenhouroutdoors8530 Hey how's it going man. Yeah I definitely have some big very very wide feet. I haven't ran across anybody who has a wider foot then minds yet. I'm pretty sure there's somebody out there. My buddy thinks it's because I had very fat wide toes is why my foot is so wide because he has wide feet as well and he can fit in my flip-flops but I can't fit into his. I have to wear flip-flops 365 days out of the year and I still have problems getting to fit my flip-flops on feet. That's awesome that those Crocs didn't move that is awesome spot to put them at. I really appreciate you getting those measurements for me man. I didn't want you to go out of your way but I really appreciate it this it really helps me. So the pedals are 3.5 inches wide and your foot is 4.5 inches wide and was very comfortable to push the pedals. When I had my foot measured it measured out to be 5 1/2 to 6 inch wide. Good morning T R! The reply right below yours is from Justin Branam. He's the GM/Owner I believe of PP Texas that makes those plates. You'll need to email or call him as I do not think the plates are on their website. justin@pptexas.com or call at 281-469-3451

    Hi, Brandon. I bought this Old Town about 2 weeks ago from Frontier Outdoors near Knoxville. Picking it up tomorrow! Any comments on using a lift hoist for storing? Also, and I'm new to kayaking, I see anchors for sale. I've had motor boats and, of course, anchors for those. What's your opinion on anchors for kayaks? Necessary? Finally, how did that ctug work out for you?

      Hey Matt. Hope you’re doing good buddy. I’ve seen and heard of several people using them and they look nice however I didn’t want the risk of something hanging up high that heavy and something go wrong and it fall and hit my wife or daughter. I got the two mounts that mount on the wall and your kayak goes on it where it holds it on it’s side. It’s been really nice. The ctug I haven’t used yet as I mainly only have to move it about 30-40 feet and just pick it up from the middle handle and carry it to and from the water. I haven’t used any anchors for my kayak as of yet however I’m sure it’d be very helpful however it’s still pretty easy to stay mainly in place while actively pedaling forward or backwards and not having to put down your rod to grab a paddle. Let me know if you have any other questions. We’ll see you out there!

      @@isenhouroutdoors8530 Thanks, Brandon. On the hoist storage, yeah, I've got some concerns about, maybe, defective pully and my new Old Town crashes down on my new truck. It's hoists are very secure to the garage ceiling, but.... Kids are grown but I am fond of my wife so maybe go with wall mount for the heavier 120 & use hoist for second, smaller & lighter, kayak.

      Isenhour Outdoors great! I’m 6’ 250 an was curious about my weight not allowing the water to drain from the pdl hole out the scuppers. Did you have your plugs in? I noticed it was pretty dry. I fish in the winter an not a fan of wet feet 🤣

      @@ADDICTED2FISHINGTX no. That's the great thing about this kayak, you have holes for plugs however i've never used them and stayed pretty bone dry! I am not worried for when i take it out in the winter.

    Nice review! I am looking at buying this exact one this spring. My biggest concern is getting water in the floor. I will be fishing cold waters up north. Does that pedal drive hatch stay water tight when unit is down? Do you get any water seeping in at high speeds or rough conditions?
