  • Hi everyone! Just a short (and VERY impromptu) video of my two favorite knots to tie for baroque gut strings! Let me know if you have any tricks, tips, or other knot preferences!
    Happy practicing!

Thank you, I’ve watched a ton of videos on how to knot gut string end. Yours is by far the most concise and easy to do.

I think a Wound Gut String set (like the Olives) might facilitate instalation. Aquila now makes Red Synthetic Violin Strings as a replacement for gut strings.

I've always known the first knot you demonstrate to be the "Harp Knot" as its the only option harpists have to fasten the strings to the soundboard.

All guy strings don't need to be knotted by the musician/luthier after receiving the set, right? My Pure Gut String set, Academie made by Gamut, has the option to order them preknotted &/ with a leather washer(stopper) that act as a modern violin string ball end. In your opinion, does knitting it manually vs. ordering a set pre knotted have an effect on the sound of the baroque/modern instrument when playing it?

The truth is I have never tried a pre-knotted pure gut string on a baroque violin, only a modern! I'm not sure it would make a difference...I'm tempted to say that it probably does not affect the sound much, if I had to hazard a guess! Perhaps something to experiment!

Could you tie a stone bead on it to hold it? Lol
