I will never tire of watching this show. It was perfect to me. Well written, acted, filmed and totally clean. Each period, from the more settled start to the increased slapstick and the gentle bits of Howard and Marina subversiveness worked for me.
The series has never ended ,because thanks to gold on sky it has never stopped running. And so you can still get wrapped up in the adventures of three old comrades when the smuttiest it ever got was the adventures of Howard and marina ..................Tank You Sky Tv
I live in Holmfirth and the first ever record I bought was a Val Doonican one. Was so lovely to watch this. Thank you to whoever thought to post it to you tube. x
mozz58 I think you're right about that. I think last of the summer wine reached a natural ending not many shows can say they have run for as long Except for greats like Coronation street and emmerdale farm. Programmes aren't made like this anymore TV is crap now.
All of them was my fav but foggy was my best may their souls rip in heaven we will never hav these same actors again they all entdrtained us all if we had a bad day or anything you put the telly on last of the summer wine is on they made u forget ur hard day miss them
djpaul146 I went twice. I have been in Compo’s House and Sid’s Cafe. Plus on a tour of the filming in a mini bus. It is a really beautiful place, no wonder Bill Owen wanted to be buried there.
It is a bit odd, but I am currently 17 and I can honestly say I grew up with this series. Obviously not when it first started, but PBS plays episodes every Saturday morning as they have for years, and I have not missed it in many years, and never without good reason. Of course, there are quite a few out there who have grown up with this series that have seen it from the very beginning, and reading the comments made by everyone here about how they watched it with their parents or grandparents really makes me realize just how many people this show touched. I am honoured to say that this show has always been and always will be one of my absolute favorite shows, and I thank the creators for bringing such a wonderful story to life.
they got rid of the series because of production value too much to make that is why they got rid of heartbeat in Last of Summer Wine and the Royal ect. x
Scott Awcock that might of been the case with heartbeat and the Royal but it wasn't the case for last of the summer wine. They stopped last of the summer wine because it was based on the characters like compo and claggy and nora batty you simply can't replace them. too many of cast died to carry on the show, That's why last of the summer wine ended.
And now we have cheap shows and Ant and Dec. (I am appalled that a man addicted to pain killers, and a convicted drunk driver should be allowed back on our screens and PAID for it.
Programmes aren't made like this anymore? It was a very sad day when another one of the greats finished but I think it came to a natural ending though. Too many of the characters died and like in real life you can't just go out and get another compo or foggy or nora batty, Because it was manly based on them characters without them there is no last of the summer wine.
daiweborn - this is the only copy I can find but I'm sure it should be on other Val Doonican compliation CD's. Look at Amizon - the album is It's Good To see you.
there are still plenty of moments afterwards and I think the idea of a new trio was the way to go, but it should have been another two new characters along side Hobbo
+Joseph Marrison He was indeed Joseph but his character of Foggy perhaps less so, disturbingly I see several of Foggys character traits in me. MInd you, once such people were the glue that held society together. Sadly now an anachronism I suspect.
My Grandfather loved this sitcom. Such happy memories of him this theme tune brings back.
Love the show x watch it on gold every day x the music x brilliant xxxxxx thank you xxx for putting it on here xxx
Will never forget . Absolutely brilliant Roy Clarke .I never missed a episode.
Awesome! This series holds a place in my heart like no other program.
I will never tire of watching this show. It was perfect to me. Well written, acted, filmed and totally clean. Each period, from the more settled start to the increased slapstick and the gentle bits of Howard and Marina subversiveness worked for me.
How fortunate i am to have grown up with Val and this classic series......a beautiful post....
The series has never ended ,because thanks to gold on sky it has never stopped running. And so you can still get wrapped up in the adventures of three old comrades when the smuttiest it ever got was the adventures of Howard and marina ..................Tank You Sky Tv
+Alan Wareham Officially it has ended as there are no new episodes being produced.
Main reason why I joined Sky.
Still as fresh today
I live in Holmfirth and the first ever record I bought was a Val Doonican one. Was so lovely to watch this. Thank you to whoever thought to post it to you tube. x
Teddy Bears Your town is a beautiful one if I may say so.
Always amazed me, never saw Holme Moss aerial in the background
How I loved this show and this theme
Yes. Very autumnly and melancholic. We will all fade away with time.......
The Legendary Song of a Legendary series.
To All our Last of the summer wine out there All the very Best
I never watched the show but I love this version of the theme song. Val's voice is so easy to listen to. Always loved him.
Brings tears to my eyes every time vale Val
We need those days to return ...
If only
Absolutely wonderful Song and show
So beautiful.
A lovely tribute by a man who could touch all our hearts at a time when we are mourning Compo again and now Pearl.
I have never heard the vocal version before...very good
One of few good programmes on t.v enjoy theme tune still🐹
I never knew there was words to this tune
This series bought pleasure to many. I feel it had reached the natural end, but what a beautifull tribute to a great comedy
mozz58 I think you're right about that.

When my life is over please will someone make this be my last song. I want this to be the last thing I hear
Beautifully made, so sad to see so many now gone making the lyrics even more poignant.
Unfortunately , we are next.
I've been to homfirth many times and to compos cafe and sat on Nora battys steps and what a nice friendly place it is to
djpaul146 I went twice. I have been in Compo’s House and Sid’s Cafe. Plus on a tour of the filming in a mini bus. It is a really beautiful place, no wonder Bill Owen wanted to be buried there.

Brilliant Music Video.

We need more like you to keep the memories, my kids hate it. Good on you.
R.I.P Peter sallis the last of the summer wine had finally been drank 1921-2017
The lyrics were written by Roy Clarke, the man who wrote every single episode of the series.
jrgboy He was a genius.
The lyrics were written by lyricist/producer Norman Newell
I once sang the theme in a school talent show
Its quite a range to the vocal Not many can sing it like Val Doonican brilliant
dam,, class,,,,,,,,,,,, cant get any better,
I've just heard that Val's widow Lynn has died, less than a year after Val, and a few weeks after the death of Burt Kwouk
I love this song. wish youtube would have some of these channels to improve their videos and audio !!.
I don't know why they got rid of this programme, and others like Heartbeat, these were good shows.
they got rid of the series because of production value too much to make that is why they got rid of heartbeat in Last of Summer Wine and the Royal ect. x

Ditto, Loved the Place but it were a long hike up the hill to home
RIP Val x
yorkshirejan Sad news a great entertainer gone RIP :(
yorkshirejan I did not know Val had recorded this - it's perfect! Thanks for the memories.
david stuckey . Your very welcome
It was really terrible of the BBC not to commission a finalle. They just discontinued the series without allowing a proper send off
Joe gladwin was my neighbor 😍
All gone sadly
Was there ever a episode of winter lok
never the same really after Compo died....
+Glen Oh - So true -
+Glen Bill Owen was who made the show great.
i agree
there are still plenty of moments afterwards and I think the idea of a new trio was the way to go, but it should have been another two new characters along side Hobbo
That was the beginning of the end for the last of the summer wine 😫 it's not the same anymore
top marks to val
Where was Wesley?
😢
I fear I am turning into Foggy....
+Reggyrail Why would you fear that? Brian Wilde was a comedy great.
+Joseph Marrison He was indeed Joseph but his character of Foggy perhaps less so, disturbingly I see several of Foggys character traits in me. MInd you, once such people were the glue that held society together. Sadly now an anachronism I suspect.
Reggyrail I have been slowly turning into Clegg since I was 15
Where can I buy it ?.
its not the original verson but not bad
