We were talking about amazing Filipino talents like Lea Salonga, Jed Madela, Charice Pempengco (now Jake Zyrus), or KZ Tandingan (and more), who've put a spotlight on Filipino talent on the global stage. BUT when it comes to all-Filipino groups making waves internationally, SB19 truly led the charge. They didn't just break barriers, they shattered the norms! SB19 is the group that showed the world that Filipinos can create global hits with music composed and produced by Filipinos themselves. They proved that Filipino performers aren't just about belting high notes, but are multi-faceted artists with unique styles and powerful messages.
Please research also about Smokey Mountain, they were actually the first PPop group that was recognized internationally. Won multiple awards in several international music festivals during the '90s, but I agree with you the door was always open, the main reason why it have been more than 2 decades gap between Smokey Mountain and SB19 is because there was a rise on the Pop Rock in later '90s and novelty (later on was called bubblegum pop) genre in PH in 2000s and record labels focused on them, but I think it was the network wars which began in 2000s that resulted to PPop's decline in the international market, because TV stations would limit TV exposures to artists which only have an exclusive contract with them, bowing to a more organized Western Pop and KPop industries. I think the right word is SB19 resurrected PPop's competitiveness in the international scene and paving the way for the other groups to be easily recognized. Because the doors were already open.
Filipino singers, dancers, musicians, and entertainers in general have been popular worldwide for decades. I remember seeing so many Filipinos on TV back in the 90's who were hired in countries like Thailand and Japan and even in Europe to be entertainers especially in the cruise ships. Doing a little online research today, that trend of hiring Filipino entertainers hasn't stopped since then. That type of industry has always been alive and it's been a source of income for so many ordinary Filipino families. I have nothing against SB19 but it's wrong to just give all of the credit or recognition to SB19 when it comes to OPM or PPOP. Simply because there have been millions of ordinary Filipinos who have contributed to the popularity of Filipino music industry or entertainment industry in general. I even remember Regine Velasquez having so many Chinese fans because of her song with a Chinese singer. Her album was very popular in Southeast Asia and East Asia. It such a disrespect to the older generation of Filipino entertainers like Regine to say that SB19 popularized OPM or PPOP. SB19 CONTRIBUTED. Let me say it again, CONTRIBUTED. But Filipino music as a whole has already been established before they were born.

The subject here is not the entire OPM but only the sub genre called "Ppop Music" and we are not talking about the old version but the "Modern Ppop" (a Ppop Music with an idol concept) In terms of who opened the door for Filipino Music to be known worldwide then it is obvious that it was not SB19 but some of our old Filipino Music Artist. One of the best example is Freddie Aguilar's "Anak" song which was known worldwide and was translated in different languages. Again the subject is not the entire OPM but only the sub genre called "Ppop Music (Modern version)" so SB19 truly deserves to take the credits for becoming the "Trailblazers of Ppop"
SB19 did took all the "blows" until the existence of PPOP was acknowledged locally and globally. The luxury of being guided and financially supported was one they couldn't afford when' starting. Created their own songs, own choreography and even directed most of their MV's. Shared clothes, money and even food.. Sw what then does ATIN wants? Not for "others' to consider SB19 as the best but at least give RESPECT. SB19 earned that.
Filipino pop already existed before SB19. Stop disregarding the fact that Billy Crawford, Lea Salonga, Charice, Regine Velasquez, and the older generation of Filipino entertainers have represented the Philippine flag worldwide for decades before SB19 were even born.

SB19 are the pioneers and torch bearers of P-PoP as we know it today. The true meaning of "paved the way"? Dumaan sila sa baku bakong daan at pina kinis muna nila. They walked, so others can easily run. Ganun na lang kabilis at kadali sa iba kasi unti unti na ngayong natatanggap ng madla ang P-PoP. Whereas Mahalima had to endure every negative and hate comments, pagtawanan, husgahan at laiitin kahit nga gang ngayon nararanasan pa nila. Nakaya nilang lahat ng yun para sa pangarap nila. Worst, came from our own media pa during their debut. And now, the rising P-PoP groups acknowledged the standards they have to meet because they know na SB19 have set that standard and legacy na mahirap sundan. I don't agree. SB19 definitely contributed but saying that they "opened it" is such an exaggeration and it's extremely inaccurate. Filipino entertainers have already been popular worldwide and were already being hired by other countries like Japan and Thailand since 1970's and 1980's. The Filipino pop industry has existed before SB19. Pop stars like Billy Crawford and Lea Salonga who were born and raised in the Philippines have already represented the Filipino talent worldwide in the past and even until today. I even remember Charice performing on Glee with Lea Michele back in 2010. Charice's song with Iyaz was a worldwide hit and this happened during a time where social media apps like Twitter and TH-cam aren't that popular yet. It was way harder for Filipino talents and Asian talents like Charice to get noticed and have recognition in other countries.

Same here, I'm 59 in London, never been a fan of any kpop, until I saw SB19 music and interview of SB19 during pandemic and became a fan. Never heard of any ppop that time, but I'm here to stay as A'tin for the rest of my life.
im a Filipino works almost half of my life in abroad, so i dont know much anymore on the young generation in the entertainment world, but i would say whoever keep on trending fast in the social media, those are the artists that made their group so popular with their own effort. SB19 even started in humble beginning that made their stories catchy, they are down to earth & so ppl like me got curious about them. SB19 is the one who really opened the doors of Ppop locally & even globally. There should be no question or debate about it... SB19 is the first ever group who was featured & acknowledged by international audience. I've only saw them in youtube few years ago & i was absolutely impressed with their level of performance, how they improved their skills & crafts in a high standard & reached the worldwide impact. GENTO is the music that made them recognisable by any ppl in the world in all ages.... About BINI, im not disregarding them but in all honesty, i dont know they exist, who they are & what are they, until i watched this video just today. So, i googled about this female group & just found out...hmmm, interesting they are group of ABS-CBN which started since 2019 or 2020, but i never heard about them at all. Well, as u all know ABS always claim they are first in everything, no wonder Karen made that claim & made an issue about it...and that guy on the left side who commented about his reaction. He doesn't need to discredit & imply about chasing away the issue of SB19 was the who open the door for all P-pop despite all the negative criticism they received before... I didn't even know who they were till I came across their WHAT MV. After seeing it, I became interested in them. Through SB19, I was introduced to some of the other groups. So, from my experience... sb19 was the key I used to get familiarized with ppop. My eyes caught G22 here recently... love their vocal power as well 😉 but I'm an A'tin and have been supporting them since.

We just want to make it clear that our reaction was not intended to be against BINI. We appreciate their contribution to promoting PPOP globally, and that's definitely something to celebrate. What bothered us was the misleading narrative that was presented on national TV. Whether it was accidental or intentional, it was still broadcast on TV. Not everyone knows about the other group, so some might assume that that BINI is the first group to make international waves. However, the boys have set the standard on the global stage and have worked hard to achieve this. We're not asking for them to mention it there. We're not demanding that they always give credit to the boys because even before, it was the love and support of their fans that made it possible for them to reach further. Please don't think that our fan base is toxic. We are just being protective of our boys, as they've already been through so much since the beginning. We also want other groups to succeed, as it has been the main goal from the beginning. PPOP rise!
lol. I'm A'tin and that being so oa. Opm is already on global stage lol. zack tabudlo?, mymp? and others? not big as sb19 when it comes to fandom but from listeners they're huge. OPM is already opened globally lol it how you market yourself and mostly OPM artist don't have international concerts (Filipino international fans are different). Ppop is really different from OPM's marketing and performance. Just don't be exaggerated.

I watched the various debut songs of other groups, they are all technos and familiar beats similar to other country's...medyo nakakaumay kasi pakinggan na magkakatunog na halos lahat ng mga songs mg mga grupo...they are good songs but in a way something is missing to really say that these songs have some unique flavor and texture in them...may mga ibang groups din na magagaling after SB19...however I really found in SB19's songs the resonance I am looking for and definitely their songs have the grit, wit and fit..A'Tin, it will always be us who can grant the boys the greatest validation they deserved...these boys have such a great impact in my life just hearing their stories and their songs...they envisioned variety and classic texture in their music na kahit hindi na sila maging active as a group, they will be remembered for their inspiration. If I may say their songs have a multigenerational appeal, not to mention non-Filipinos loved them too. After the classic hits of older generation artists in the country that proved their prowess here and abroad, SB19 reminded everyone that our craft can evolve too together with other global artists. 3:52 whoa may ganitong interview pala.. This says a lot! I wasn't a ppop fan yet when bini debuted so i didn't know na mas naging madali ang pagtanggap ng tao sa girl and boy groups at that time. Lately I saw a vid on X where an A'tin corrected the MC in UP fair (2019 ata yun) by saying "it's not kpop, it's ppop!" Then people started chanting PPOP! PPOP! PPOP! kakakilabot. Ilinaban ng mga aurum at og a'tin yung pangalang PPOP kasi di tanggap ng mga tao before.
Bini can and will definitely conquer new heights..and so will other ppop groups! Yes, you're right, SB19 received all the bullets thrown at them. They persevered so other groups could enjoy what they were enjoying right now. SB19 will always be a trailblazer and that will mark the history of the music industry.
I like how Direk Dyogi acknowledge SB19 and other older groups that came first before BINI. This video just proves that there are just simple misunderstanding can became a big issue because only fans wants to fight what's right for their Idols. But, We fans, must also know that we can cross the lines sometimes if we don't look and understand the both sides. We still know that in reality, even we don't see much, they are close to each other. So please let's all stop breaking that closeness they have. They all showcase the talent of Filipinos that we can be proud of in other countries. For a journalist, Karen is tactless and unmindful of what comes out of her mouth. She of all people should have exercise restraint in showing how bias she can be at times. I also did not like how she worded her questions to the girls of bini during the interview. Gwen: "Nung nawala si papa..." Karen: "Nawala? Namatay?" When sheena was crying, karen was like "so you never had closure? You never got to say goodbye?" I was like, obviously!!! And you're not helping with your questions. BUT when it comes to all-Filipino groups making waves internationally, SB19 truly led the charge. They didn't just break barriers, they shattered the norms! SB19 is the group that showed the world that Filipinos can create global hits with music composed and produced by Filipinos themselves. They proved that Filipino performers aren't just about belting high notes, but are multi-faceted artists with unique styles and powerful messages.
Please research also about Smokey Mountain, they were actually the first PPop group that was recognized internationally. Won multiple awards in several international music festivals during the '90s, but I agree with you the door was always open, the main reason why it have been more than 2 decades gap between Smokey Mountain and SB19 is because there was a rise on the Pop Rock in later '90s and novelty (later on was called bubblegum pop) genre in PH in 2000s and record labels focused on them, but I think it was the network wars which began in 2000s that resulted to PPop's decline in the international market, because TV stations would limit TV exposures to artists which only have an exclusive contract with them, bowing to a more organized Western Pop and KPop industries. I think the right word is SB19 resurrected PPop's competitiveness in the international scene and paving the way for the other groups to be easily recognized. Because the doors were already open.

Filipino singers, dancers, musicians, and entertainers in general have been popular worldwide for decades. I remember seeing so many Filipinos on TV back in the 90's who were hired in countries like Thailand and Japan and even in Europe to be entertainers especially in the cruise ships.
Doing a little online research today, that trend of hiring Filipino entertainers hasn't stopped since then. That type of industry has always been alive and it's been a source of income for so many ordinary Filipino families.
I have nothing against SB19 but it's wrong to just give all of the credit or recognition to SB19 when it comes to OPM or PPOP. Simply because there have been millions of ordinary Filipinos who have contributed to the popularity of Filipino music industry or entertainment industry in general.
I even remember Regine Velasquez having so many Chinese fans because of her song with a Chinese singer. Her album was very popular in Southeast Asia and East Asia. It such a disrespect to the older generation of Filipino entertainers like Regine to say that SB19 popularized OPM or PPOP.
SB19 CONTRIBUTED. Let me say it again, CONTRIBUTED. But Filipino music as a whole has already been established before they were born.

In terms of who opened the door for Filipino Music to be known worldwide then it is obvious that it was not SB19 but some of our old Filipino Music Artist. One of the best example is Freddie Aguilar's "Anak" song which was known worldwide and was translated in different languages.

SB19 did took all the "blows" until the existence of PPOP was acknowledged locally and globally. The luxury of being guided and financially supported was one they couldn't afford when' starting. I don't agree. SB19 definitely contributed but saying that they "opened it" is such an exaggeration and it's extremely inaccurate. Filipino entertainers have already been popular worldwide and were already being hired by other countries like Japan and Thailand since 1970's and 1980's. The Filipino pop industry has existed before SB19. Pop stars like Billy Crawford and Lea Salonga who were born and raised in the Philippines have already represented the Filipino talent worldwide in the past and even until today. I even remember Charice performing on Glee with Lea Michele back in 2010. Charice's song with Iyaz was a worldwide hit and this happened during a time where social media apps like Twitter and TH-cam aren't that popular yet. It was way harder for Filipino talents and Asian talents like Charice to get noticed and have recognition in other countries.

im a Filipino works almost half of my life in abroad, so i dont know much anymore on the young generation in the entertainment world, but i would say whoever keep on trending fast in the social media, those are the artists that made their group so popular with their own effort. SB19 even started in humble beginning that made their stories catchy, they are down to earth & so ppl like me got curious about them. SB19 is the one who really opened the doors of Ppop locally & even globally. There should be no question or debate about it... SB19 is the first ever group who was featured & acknowledged by international audience. I've only saw them in youtube few years ago & i was absolutely impressed with their level of performance, how they improved their skills & crafts in a high standard & reached the worldwide impact. GENTO is the music that made them recognisable by any ppl in the world in all ages.... About BINI, im not disregarding them but in all honesty, i dont know they exist, who they are & what are they, until i watched this video just today. So, i googled about this female group & just found out...hmmm, interesting they are group of ABS-CBN which started since 2019 or 2020, but i never heard about them at all. Well, as u all know ABS always claim they are first in everything, no wonder Karen made that claim & made an issue about it...and that guy on the left side who commented about his reaction. I didn't even know who they were till I came across their WHAT MV. After seeing it, I became interested in them. Through SB19, I was introduced to some of the other groups. So, from my experience... sb19 was the key I used to get familiarized with ppop. My eyes caught G22 here recently... love their vocal power as well 😉 but I'm an A'tin and have been supporting them since.

We just want to make it clear that our reaction was not intended to be against BINI. We appreciate their contribution to promoting PPOP globally, and that's definitely something to celebrate.
What bothered us was the misleading narrative that was presented on national TV. Whether it was accidental or intentional, it was still broadcast on TV. Not everyone knows about the other group, so some might assume that that BINI is the first group to make international waves. However, the boys have set the standard on the global stage and have worked hard to achieve this.
We're not asking for them to mention it there. We're not demanding that they always give credit to the boys because even before, it was the love and support of their fans that made it possible for them to reach further.
Please don't think that our fan base is toxic. We are just being protective of our boys, as they've already been through so much since the beginning. We also want other groups to succeed, as it has been the main goal from the beginning. PPOP rise!

I watched the various debut songs of other groups, they are all technos and familiar beats similar to other country's...medyo nakakaumay kasi pakinggan na magkakatunog na halos lahat ng mga songs mg mga grupo...they are good songs but in a way something is missing to really say that these songs have some unique flavor and texture in them...may mga ibang groups din na magagaling after SB19...however I really found in SB19's songs the resonance I am looking for and definitely their songs have the grit, wit and fit..A'Tin, it will always be us who can grant the boys the greatest validation they deserved...these boys have such a great impact in my life just hearing their stories and their songs...they envisioned variety and classic texture in their music na kahit hindi na sila maging active as a group, they will be remembered for their inspiration. 3:52 whoa may ganitong interview pala.. This says a lot! I wasn't a ppop fan yet when bini debuted so i didn't know na mas naging madali ang pagtanggap ng tao sa girl and boy groups at that time. Lately I saw a vid on X where an A'tin corrected the MC in UP fair (2019 ata yun) by saying "it's not kpop, it's ppop!" Then people started chanting PPOP! PPOP! PPOP! kakakilabot. Ilinaban ng mga aurum at og a'tin yung pangalang PPOP kasi di tanggap ng mga tao before.
Bini can and will definitely conquer new heights..and so will other ppop groups!
