Schoolboy Q, Earl sweatshirt, ab soul, odd future, Vince staples, Jid, thundercat, Anderson paak, the internet, kendrick and SZA, Joey badass, c.t.g, Snoop dogg, jon mayer, ty dollar and so many more loved him. He was and still is severely underrated. ❤❤❤

Mac cared about the culture. He cared about helping others that might not have had the same advantages as him. He truly embodied what it means to be an artist. He wore it on his sleeve. Transparent, honest, bold, funny, rare. Forever my reason for giving me the courage to start making music ten plus years ago. I will never stop giving him praise. Thank you for this video. He needs to be discussed more. Much love and best of luck with you and the growth of your channel.

Mac is in my top two of favorite “rappers” but he was so much more than a rapper. I started listening to him when I heard the Mixtape Best Day Ever when a friend put me on to him. His growth from his first production album Blue Slide Park to his last in Circles is drastic! He was a true artist every sense and to watch his music evolve was amazing. Being close in age to Mac I felt him growing up and changing as I myself was going through different stages in my own life and the music seemed help me though it. I remember being deployed and Macadelic dropped and Fight the feeling played for the first time. It just hit different. As to why he was so loved is because he wasn’t a visitor of the culture. He truly embodied hip hop and the culture surrounding it. He was a rappers rapper. A genuine person that wanted to see others shine as well. Just look who sings the highest praise of him. Some of the best creators of music, not just rap. Mac is one of the best artist to touch a mic period. RIP to Mac Miller

Bruh I cried so hard when he passed. I remember I didn’t like him like that in 2011 around BDE but I kept coming around to his songs and eventually I started to love him as an artist. Watching him grow as an artist was the best part. As he was growing and so was I and he his music there when I needed him most. I was and still am a true fan! Love him much. #RIPMACMILLER

  • @brandnewstart8663

Man, when I first found Mac, it was after his passing, and honestly, I liked him. It was the deeper into his discography and, in turn, his life and stories, that he started to become more to me. I don't really have a favorite rapper, but when people ask me that question, Mac definitely comes to mind and gives me a warm feeling. Never let his name die. He deserves to be remembered by the coming generation(s).

Some context that I think really made Mac special to his home city:
Pittsburgh is the most segregated city I've ever been in. Black people are generally treated like shit, but it's gotten especially bad since developers started gentrifying the inner city. That's been forcing people out of black communities into what used to be strictly white neighborhoods. My friend's racist old grandma was always bitching about how "the blacks ruined Wilkinsburgh," which is right next to Point Breeze (where Mac grew up).
When Mac Miller welcomed black rappers into his home, he wasn't just supporting newer artists. He was also a white guy welcoming black people into a neighborhood that usually outright rejected them.

honestly mac miller wasn’t rlly loved in hip hop. he was constantly disrespected for his early work and hip hop as a whole didn’t care enough to support him for his later work. he died and suddenly everybody gave him the praise that he deserved. this isn’t to say that there wasn’t love for Mac Miller, but he wasn’t given that love when he was around. this is a good video, but i think this part of the narrative gets overlooked by a lot of people.

Great question, I’ve never understood. That’s cool he was nice, but he can’t sing, can’t rap, and could play 2 instruments as well as a decent middle schooler

Unspoken truth: Hip Hop really didn’t care about mac miller. He had a few really big frat boy style flex rap hits, and he was JUST starting to shake that reputation off when he died. Now everyone acts like hip hop respected him all along. It’s just not true.
He was also notorious for buying views and faking his own influence. I remember twitter in 2012 unlike most of you. MAC WASNT POPULAR. He still mid in my opinion. At best.

But features and cosigns from legends like prodigy, Sean p, the alchemist, Jay z. Beats from 9th wonder, Cole, cardo, Jon brion. Rick Rubin let him stay with him for a while cmon dawg. A lot of the bigger names who came up in the 2010s fw him and were his actual friends. Where you get off saying hip hop didn't care about him. The industry didn't care about him but he's definitely a student of the culture and many great artists say the same.
