@@KLEF710 Yes, the 2nd one is a replacement. Kone replaced all of the original 1987 O&K travelators in the terminal in 2009/10 (except for one short one in departures that was just taken out and the pit was covered over with a different floor). Fortunately that meant they were still built in the Keighley, UK factory rather than overseas as Kone finished UK production in 2010 - so these are the last of a kind. 🙂 For some reason the travelators in the link from the South Terminal to the Shuttle Train to the North Terminal were retained even though they are more heavily used! They still operate perfectly to this day with only a light mod from KONE. The North Terminal ones were the same - they were only replaced to make it look more modern as they were still reliable…
@@EscalatorsAnywhere I recently flew out from Gatwick North Terminal and I boarded at the gates 46-54 pier, and there was 2 fairly long Kone travelators, similar to the one at 5:31, and a long ramp going down to gates 46 to 49, however no escalators unlike the other 2 piers.
@ Yeah the 46-54 pier you can see down towards slightly before we turn and ride the 2nd travelator in this clip (arrivals) and the departures is a mirror image above again with 2 more travelators in the section. The unfortunate thing is that with the 2nd travelator we ride here, the one above wasn’t ever renewed and was just removed in 2010 - hence the different flooring pattern. It was however much shorter since the departure lounge sticks out further than the arrivals / passport hall… What’s most annoying though is the travelator for gate 46/47. Once you go down to that lower level and through the actual gate, there’s another one. They are the same brilliant 1999 Kone (O&K) RSV-HD style like 2/5 in that long pier of the South Terminal. I’ve been on them years ago but not since I started filming. The arrivals one is easier to access but departures you must actually fly from 46/47 or you can’t get to it. ☺️ Also, before the turn in that pier, you’ll find these escalators for gates 45 A-L; th-cam.com/video/AA0Flxwj5Og/w-d-xo.htmlsi=CDZ4OBumulHQpMcr
I'm guessing that second Kone travelator from 2010 was a replacement of an older one, most likely an O&K?
