This was the last year with Keith, because he died a few months later. So if you're going to check out the Who, they were at their best earlier than this. Some great live stuff is available, particularly from around 1969-1971 - Tanglewood and Isle of Wight. Also the Rolling Stone Rock and roll circus clip of "A quick one", and the 1978 Shepparton studios performances.

Hard to believe that was 45 years ago. When I was a kid, 45 year old songs were being played with a megaphone and nobody I knew listened to them or could relate.
I lived a couple of minutes walk away from where they recorded a part of this song, it was in Battersea, London. it was recorded in about three different studios. Keith Moon kicked ass on a drum kit. My favorite video of them. They all showcase their talents and they're having fun. Keith and John are both still still alive. R.I.P. to both.
This was the theme of CSI. They aired it for years- complete with the "Who the fuck are you?!" line, lol. Always made me laugh to hear that on prime time TV.
This song came crashing into the radiosphere of my America across all cool radio stations the year I became 18 and temporarily homeless. Bob Seiger (Detroit Rock Legend) wrote his songs like he followed me around year after year in my travels. Back then when the radio was a good enough device to pack along with batteries. The big batteries.
Amazing the co-incidence. A lady i work with just got married and her surname is now Yu and i said to her today that if she hears the Who song Who are You she can answer "we are" and this comes up in my feed tonight!
It's from one of the CSI shows. All the the CSI shows used a The Who song as their theme songs. John Entwistle once said he was a babysitter of 3 unruly tottlers
As Americans you must have heard this hundreds of times on CSI. The show producer used three! Who songs in his CSI shows. A man of taste. This was from the album of the same name and used synths extensively to widen their already massive sounds.
It's special to watch the first time 'Moon the Loon', still until today he's in the group of the top drummers in rock, not to forget that the other 3 also among the best.
What I love about this video is that this isn't the take that was on the album. The album version is much tighter but they're working it out. But it still crushes hard and you get to see them fucking around and having fun. Thanks for the review 🙂
This song came way before CSI though, this was our music. Try "I Can See for Miles, Can't Explain, Magic Bus, Behind Blue Eyes". If a person was born 1955-60's we heard ALL the music from the 20's on. Old film was still playing on TV so when we were really young we could see it. Footage of Billie Holiday. Big Bands like Tommy Dorsey, Duke Ellington, Cab Calloway. Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald and that gen. were still appearing on TV. We saw/heard everything! Buddy Holly, the Big Bopper, Ritchie Valens footage. One way or another. Every band had their own sound and The Who was one of the great rock bands. Most of the great rock bands played all of the different kinds of rock. The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, The Who, The Stones and the Doors, were the early great ones. All the groups had really their own sound. So many good bands back then. Aerosmith, Black Sabbath, Nazareth. Good rock bands these were later and a little heavier. At the same time we had groups like the The Animals, the Yardbirds, Faces, Fleetwood Mac, the Mamas and Papas, Pink Floyd and so many more! We grew up with such a wide range of music it was incredible, not like today. Classic Rock, Blues Rock, Acid Rock/Psychedelic rock (this was the best one), Rhythm and Blues, Folk, Motown, Funk, Country, Gospel, the Ballads. We had people like Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis, Harry Belafonte, Johnny Cash, Marvin Gaye, Linda Ronstadt, Dolly Parton, Janis Joplin. We heard it ALL. Real Bands! So many different genres. No autotune. There is nothing like having a real band at a party. Where they actually play good music and they play the actual instruments. Imagine when these classic rock guys started out they were probably practicing in garages, playing at house parties and bars! It was Fantastic! Music was like a box of chocolates, you never knew what you were going to get.
The Drummer Keith Moon is an enigma... The way he played the kit is very unique, he is probable ADHD as per school reports. The Who are orchestral rock music.... Great video, thank you
You are correct - Who Are You - is the theme song of the original CSI TV Show in Las Vegas And Now the reboot of that show - CSI Las Vegas. But that is not all. All of the CSI shows use songs from The Who. CSI Miami is - Won't Get Fooled Again - CSI New York is -- Baba Riley - CSI Cyber is - I Can See For Miles
The third verse, from the album, changes the sentiment of the song massively - and whilst I understand the requirement for a “single version”, the song is so much poorer without that verse.
See "Won't Get Fooled Again" (Shepperton Studios / 1978) where Pete does a running jump with his guitar and lands on his knees, Rodger whirls his microphone, Keith plays crazy drums, and John E. is loud as f*ck.
Keith Moon was such a character. They called him Moon the Loon. He could have been a comic actor had he not been one of rock's greatest drummers. Sadly, he passed away not long after this was filmed.

So much talent that won't be forgotten because of folks like you enjoying it all over again. Way to hand it down to the youth of today and maybe triggering talent to make the same style of music for younger generations.
"Who Are You" is the theme to the TV show CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and its sequel series CSI: Vegas. Creepy fact about the album cover for Who Are You ... Keith Moon is sitting in a chair which has the words "not to be taken away" stenciled on the back. Moon died just a few weeks after the album was released.
A great bit of geekdom for you regarding the LEGEND Keith "the Loon" Moon. He is the inspiration for one of the most beloved TV & film characters of all time. He is the inspiration for The Muppets character, Animal. Jim Henson confirmed. The most calm, chilled out, & general lovely guy in person. But a TOTAL party animal. With all that energy let loose on stage almost total chaos, but able to flip to 100% total control & focus in the blink of an eye.
Four fantastic musicians. Roger Daltrey's great vocals perfectly fit Pete Townshend's songs and his guitar and keyboard work. John "The Ox" Entwistle, one of the greatest bass players ever, and Keith Moon, the wild man on the drums. Such a great band. Not sure what Who you've heard, but they're a deep well, from the early straight-ahead pop-rock like "I Can See For MIles" and "Substitute" to opuses like "Baba O"Riley" and "Won't Get Fooled Again".

Keith was so unpredictable as a drummer, that was part of his magic. Loads of expression and fuck overthinking it. Every take would be different but exciting.
"Who Are You" is the title track on the Who's 1978 album, Who Are You, the last album released by the group before Keith Moon's death in September 1978
As others have mentioned, two other songs by The Who were used for CSI series: "Won't Get Fooled Again" and "Baba O'Riley". These also happen to be two of their best and best-known songs, but another song that you absolutely MUST listen to is "Love Reign O'er Me".
This was used as the theme for the original "CSI." The spinoff "CSI: Miami" used "We Won't Get Fooled Again." "CSI: NY" used "Baba O'Riley." These were all major hits from The Who in the 1970s. The producers of the "CSI" franchise were probably able to license all three songs as a package deal. And, if you're going to license music for a TV show (or three), it's hard to top songs from The Who. Drummer Keith Moon was one of the greatest drummers EVER. He is on the Mount Rushmore of drummers. He unfortunately had substance abuse issues and died in September 1978 not long after this was filmed in May 1978. He was infamous for partying too hard and trashing hotel rooms. The Who were around in the 1960s, but this song came late in the 1970s.
Entwhistle is so deadpan while Moon is swinging from the rafters on his drums.

There’s an uncensored version of this also. He says “Who the ef are you?” lol
He sure does say that and they don't cover it up..Oh, the 70s and the 80s..😊
45 Years later and it still sounds so good..
Keith Moon, the drummer for The Who, was one crazy SOB, very wild.
Ya man!!!! I love The Who. I love The Police too. Good night of music!!!
As others have mentioned, two other songs by The Who were used for CSI series: "Won't Get Fooled Again" and "Baba O'Riley". These also happen to be two of their best and best-known songs, but another song that you absolutely MUST listen to is "Love Reign O'er Me".
Tasha- the show was CSI CSI Miami theme song was We won’t get fooled again and CSI-NY theme was Baba O Riley
All the CSI spin-offs used songs from The Who for theme songs.
Sorry C Tammie run I just noticed that you had already informed them where they probably heard the song from my bad
I thought this was from the original "CSI". The one in Las Vegas.
@Scott N. the original CSI was based in Las Vegas but it wasn't in the title like the one that's been on for the last 2 seasons is
This is exactly why Keith is one of my all time favorite Drummers!!!
Keith Moon! Moon The Loon! The MOST beloved drummer in rock! No drummer dislikes Moonie!
Keith the absolute best drummer of all time! RIP!
The Who once held the World Record for Loudest Performance, way back in the 60's
1976' the Valley in London. Charlton Athletic's football ground, 126db.
@The Bad Lieutenant I'll ask my brother in law. He was there.
I recall someone saying they pumped out 76,000 Watts per channel
I was there too. Great concert and insanely loud considering it was open air
It's been on several TV shows and movies and commercials over the years.
That was released in about 1971
The album was called " Who's next " .
This was used as the theme for the original "CSI."
The spinoff "CSI: Miami" used "We Won't Get Fooled Again."
"CSI: NY" used "Baba O'Riley."
These were all major hits from The Who in the 1970s.
Good Reaction and, as always, with London Bands, they had a great sense of hUmour
