i rode an 84' yz80 for a few years, it was a decent bike. I always tell my nephew that being a dirt biker in the early 90's was a great time in So Cal, you could go ride anywhere in the hills and it wasn't a big deal. Def isn't the same laid back place anymore, I still take my truck out to my old riding spots from time to time just to see the old trails and jumps that people built with their tractors. It's all grown over but i can see it like it was yesterday :)
Tony thanks for bringing back memories of the first new and water cooled bike I owned. I loved that bike. Two years later I bought a 1985 CR80R which was also a blast to ride. That commercial for the CR80R at Indian Dunes also brought back some cool memories when I used to ride there. 👍
Good memories indeed bro. I was very similar just a team green KX80 rider then but the CR & KX battled it out hard from '83-87 time-frame mainly. Loved all bikes. Then went 360deg for a Suzuki RM125 in spring '90 when my mini days racin' ended! Now its all Yamaha quads & dirtbikes..& Ford trucks 👍 to pull them filling my garage & driveway.
Love this video.....my "learner bike" was a YZ 400....no wonder I walk funny and groan a lot...... I certainly agree with your "best color combo" statement.
I remember the 87 cr80 it was by far the fastest 80. In 86 the honda engine leap frogged the kx and in 87 dirtbike magazine said the honda cr 80 makes more hp per cc than any motorcross bike we have ever tested.
@@TheMotocrossVault because of you I want a 1986 cr 250 now. God I love that orange 🍊 bodywork. All joking aside, I’m trying to have plastic made up for my 250l in that color.
I'm from Queensland Australia 🇦🇺 I still have my 1983 CR80R was my first dirt bike I've had multiple people offer me $2000 to $3000 for it but I'll never sell it has too much sentimental value to me. I got it on my 9th birthday and I was frightened the first couple times riding it specially hitting power band felt so intense lol
I had one of these back in 1987 when i was 8 years old, pretty rough bike to learn motocross :D 1990 i had brand new kx 80. I havent driven in 30 years and now thinking getting my son(5 years old) into it and get 125 for myself too :)
We need a 1983 80cc shoot out!! Those photos bring back some great memories. I had the rm 80, loved it. But my friend had the kx. I couldn't understand why he could beat me around my own track, then I got to ride the kx. It was like cheating. Thumbs up if you wanna see an 83 shoot out!
@@TheMotocrossVault that would be awesome. It's impossible to find this stuff, those magazines and your excellent presentation skills and knowledge is really unique. Keep up the great work!
I also wasn’t allowed to to have a dirt bike when I was young.that never stopped me from riding.i recently bought a kx85 for my 13 year old. Unfortunately he is more interested in video games than than bike. It’s a different time now. Thanks and keep the videos coming.
That is so funny. My 13 year old son is the same way! I'm 51 now and still have my 2 strokes. I bought him a 2013 Yamaha 300 grizzly 4 wheeler but only wants to on his PS4 with his friends. When I was his age I was always on my CR 80. Hard to understand?
In 1981 .i had a 1979 kx 80..my had a 1980cr 80 and you are rite that bike was so fast with that new 6 speed.smoked my kx after 3rd gear..though most preferred the kx! In 1984 another friend got a 84 cr80.and again you were so rite. Though not as fast as the kx the bike felt great handled excellent.and stayed that way a long time. And. A mini when your 10 years do feel like rockets.. i luv dirt bikes
Mini reviews are fun. Went from an 82 yz80 to a 93 RM80 when I started actual racing. Would love to see an in-depth review of all the kx125s! My favourite being the 90s bikes but 1980s are neat as they evolved so much
Beautiful 80cc dirtbike for sure! Was fast an smooth but dominated by the KX80. I was diehard Kawasaki team green guy bk then an the KX80 was ahead of all other minis till '87 or '88. Nowadays, I ride mainly Yamaha utility.. & sport quads. Late 40s these days but will ride for life ..God willing! Get a bike an get out there!! #Yamaha #Maxima #Fox
When the 80cc bikes started getting liquid-cooling and mono rear shocks I yearned for one. Around '83 is when I started following motorcycles in general. My dad bought a Honda Nighthawk 650 and got me an old Honda 70cc trail bike and a Yama 100 2-stroke of some kind. DT maybe? It was street legal. A couple years later my dad traded in for a V65 Magna. That thing would haul! And I finally got a new bike! An '85 XR 100. I kinda wanted a 80 2-smoker and if I had pushed it I would have gotten it but the reliability factor steered me towards a 4-stroke. WORST DECISION OF MY LIFE. I learned from then on that I needed to speak up for myself if I wanted something.
Hey Tony, love the reviews. I was wondering if you could review the 1998 yz400f, as myself and many others believe it is one of the most important motocross bikes of all time.
That bike plucks my heart strings!!!
Me too. I still have the brochure called “The Dirt 1983”.
Sweet vid. Can't wait for the 83 125/250!

'90s was the era & Yamaha dirtbikes/sport quads are like Ford trucks. "All around" the best out there. Can't go wrong! Period.
Had one from '84.
Still love that bike.

Was is that '85 CR 80 or '86 that took over the class? Regardless I bet that thing would haul!

I loved my 1985 KX 80. Crazy power for something so small, especially after putting the 100cc kit on.
Awesome bike!

Maybe only allow so much time on the games? My 1984 CR60R taught me discipline, and mechanics at a young age.

Just sold my 2001 Cr80rb... loved it, but I just didn’t need it.
Can you do the 1993 125 shootout
Yes
Do the 89 CR80 Please
i have one !!
To this day Honda uses the best grade of nuts and bolts. Kawasaki= dog shit
Been that way a long time.
Thankful for you doing these. In 83 the kx80 was head and shoulders above ALL else but I like what you said about appearance. Spot on 👌🏽
